So, it kind of seems like braces has fixed the problem for everyone here. Is that true?

Also, I'm interested in the post-nasal drip idea... My gums have been itching pretty much nonstop for seven years. Could I have had it all this time?

It's your toothpaste.

Yall may not be aware, but toothpaste has a ton of stuff in it that isn't great for you. Random chemicals. I itched for 25 years until I realized I was allergic to the chemical that makes toothpaste bubbly.

I switched to natural toothpaste 2 years ago. Haven't itched since.

I don't know the reason for itchy gums, but I suffered from it for nearly 4years.. Finally got a remedy in ayurveda . It is called oil pulling or ghondusha. You have to use one or two teaspoon of sesame oil or coconut oil in the mouth a nd keep in the mouth for 5to 10 minutes and then gargle also called oil squishing and spit it out. Do this for 2times a day. I found relief with in 3weeks.just Google oil pulling or search on u tube ghondusha or oil pulling. Hope some one is benefited.

Try oil pulling or gandoosha as it is called in ayurveda . Search for oil pulling or gandoosha in Google or u tube. I suffered from itchy gums for 4years and oil pulling helped. U have to keep sesame oil or coconut oil in mouth for 10 minutes and gargle and spit it out. Do this for twice a day for a month and itchiness disappears.

My bottom three gum spaces do this, I always thought it was because my gums ride up? It feels so good to brush those teeth up and down hardly with a toothbrush and I don't even care if they bleed it bothers me so much! I will take a toothpick or a plastic fork and jab at it until it bleeds just because it is satisfying. None of my friends or family have this issue, just me... glad I'm not he only one!

I have had the itch for more than 15 years now. My Dr.s dont know what to do about it. It is always itchy and mostly between my upper bicuspid teeth. unfortunately I have itched them so long that I am loosing my gum in that area. The doctors only keep telling me that I should not do that but it is really bad! and when I itch it at least it gets numb for a short while...

Tilly and my braces again. I am suffering from cold and hell, it itches so badly! Unbelieveable.
The thing with my teeth: they were never really crooked. They looked fine on X rays and everything, though my orthodontists pointed out they are totally wrong. I couldnt bite properly. Some of the teeth were rotated somewhere else. My jaws didnt really "click". I had quite a rare problem and I will have to wear the braces for a long time. They align them for me every month. When they align the teeth and they are pulled, it itches a little. But the real hell begins after the pulling. I just sit and stare at the wall and all the teeth itch so badly. Even the ones that didnt itch before. Molars, premolars, everything.
And then...they turn. And the itching is less severe. And the next month, they turn a little bit more and the itch is again less severe. And at the end of the day, some of the teeth just dont itch anymore. It's so, so weird.
The bad thing is you cant really poke in it, as all the wires (i have like three wires connecting every tooth) block the way. Sometimes, when the teeth turn, it all itches so so bad and I press against the braces as it creates a numbing sensation for all of the teeth, but that helps only from the inside (i have to press my tongue against the teeth).

I'm sitting here now with the sharp end of a plastic flosser, jamming it into my gums as hard as it will go. The itch just gets worse. For years I've had this problem, and I always bite off my nails, then stick them in my mouth to dig them into my gums. The more I do it, the more it hurts and itches, but I can't stop. The best/worst thing to do is to take a sip of hot tea and hold it in my mouth. The hot water sort of "ignites" the itch and makes it tingle and hurt so badly my eyes water. I have these urges to just stab a needle down deep to get at the itch, or to burn my gums so they have no feeling. I have no idea what causes this, but I'm desperate. I can hardly concentrate anymore. It just gets worse. I've never had braces.

Hi, I also have an itch in my middle two teeth, it's really annoying and if scratched for a long time, it turns sore I don't know what to do.

If you were to ignore the gum tissue, it will give a better understanding of the space between the teeth. Since the teeth normally taper as you move from the biting surface to the root, there will always be more room closer to the gumline if the teeth are straight. If you see light between the teeth near the gumline, either you have lost bone and the gum subsequently receded, or the contact between the teeth near the biting surface is insufficient. As for the itching, try baking soda and peroxide, or one of the Toms of Maine toothpastes, instead of your toothpaste and see if it goes away.

I have been dealing with the same issue for years now and could never get a straight answer even from a local dentist who told me it was weird. I scratch, pick, and mostly rub my tongue agressively against the spot on and off all day everyday for 5+ years now and there has to be a reason ( I used to have a different spot when I was younger but it wasn't as agressive). The dentist said it couldn't be gum disease but from where I constantly rub it I've cause it the gums to recede in that spot. Its became a habit now and I love the way it feels and I hate that I love it, but I can't stop.
