I am due to have my gall bladder out june 5, 13. I am heavy now. and Hope I lose weight. I am wondering about these things also. I can only guess that everyone responds differently. If you get to thin . Go back to your dr. for answers. Maybe he can help. All my friends tell me . I would lose not gain. ( Hope so) Lol..And that I won't have more diahhrea. I will soon find out.

I went from 142 lbs to 83 lbs. That was 5 years ago when I had my GB removed. I'm now 100 lbs and I can't eat any dairy products or anything high in fiber. Nothing with sugar in it. Sugar makes me vomit. I love sugar but not what it does to me. Went to 2 digestive specialists who said I have IBS. Having GB out causes IBS. We can live with no GB but have to give up a lot. My GB has thousands of stones in it so I didn't have a choice. My diet is 5 days of plain hamburgers (no condiments or veggies) and cream of wheat. The week-ends I eat eggs, mashed potatoes (no milk or butter) and pasta (no spaghetti sauce as it upsets my somach). All the Dr.s' I've been to say the same thing. IBS. Just eat the foods I can tolerate. If anyone is trying to lose weight. Don't eat sugar. Do that for 2 months & you'll drop 50 lbs. People who tell me they can't lose weight..I ask..Do you eat sugar. Answer is always Yes but they won't give up sugar. Maybe if they had their GB out..they would be forced to stop eating what they want & actually lose weight. Just my opinion.

I have the exact same thing, pain on my right side, bra wire hurting my side and needing to lay on my side. I was given a medication called nortryptiline for nerve damage, try it, it helps. Good luck

Hi everyone! Sorry to hear all the bad experiences, but glad I'm not crazy!!  I had my gall bladder removed almost 3 months ago & the diarhea is NEVER-ENDING, unfortunately.  I gained a nice 21 pounds since my surgery.  I went back to the Emergency Department recently with severe abdominal pain that was as intense as when my gall bladder acted up (my surgeon told me I had the worst gangreen infected gall bladder he had ever seen - I looked at pics online after geeting home from 4 days in the hospital & they were absolutely disgusting & horrifying).  Anyway, a nurse at the ER told me that after gall bladder removal men tend to lose weight while women tend to gain weight; she said she wasn't sure why though.  And, I was told my body would regulate after 2-3 weeks, which has proven untrue.  Btw, found out in ER I had a bacterial infection in my intestines, caused by taking very strong antibiotics for a tooth infection. An awesome nurse I had in the hospital after surgery told me that the doctors don't & won't tell you the whole story, so he shared with me that some people's systems regulate after the 2-3 week period, whereas other people will never tolerate fatty foods without the diarhea as an adverse effect.  He did say there is a medication you can take that helps produce bile in the system (which the gall bladder is no longer there to produce) which will bind to the fat in your system so that the body can properly absorb it.  The reason for the diarhea, he said, is that bile binds to the fat in our bodies & without that bile, the fat goes straight through us, hence, diarhea.  I don't know what the medicine is called, but I'm sure if you talk to your primary care provider he or she will know.  I hope that's helpful to someone!  One more thing, every doctor or nurse I've talked to since the surgery says the diarhea has nothing to do with th gall bladder removal - I mean, come on!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????

HAD GB REMOVED 2 MONTHS AGO.  ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH CONSTIPATION ALL MY LIFE.  I AM 63.  SINCE MY SURGERY I HAVE HAD NO CONSTIPATION.  THE MOST WONDERFUL EASY BOWEL MOVEMENTS OF MY LIFE AND THEY ARE HUGE.  I TAKE NO STOOL SOFTNER OR LAXATIVE AND EAT WHAT I WANT.  IT IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVERY EXPERIENCED.  SO NOT ALL IS BAD AFTER SURGERY.  SO FAR I CAN SAY IT HAS BEEN WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reading all these replies has been so helpful.  I had my GB out 10 years ago and to be fair for the first 8 it's been great. My weight has fluctuated but it has all my life. 2 years ago I suddenly started getting diarrhoea, I've been investigated for all sorts of things and am still undergoing investigation. Not once has my dr associated it with my lost GB but reading everyone's symptoms on here it's exactly what I've got

I have a 85 yr. old female lady friend, that had her gb taken out many years ago, but has had problems off an on with her bowels over the years but now they have gotten to where if she eats she has to go right on the the bathroom an some hours after that they move an she has no time to get to the bathroom so she has messed her clothes up time an again. she hasn't really complained of having any pain just can't control her bowels an when their going to move. she is scared she might have cancer but I was trying to find out something for her she can't see good at all, an just found out she has cist on her kidneys an one stone. she is losing weight but not fast maybe a lb every 3 months. thanks in advance

My mom had the same problem and found a doctor that actually helped. She takes a drug called Questrian on a daily basis and it has solved everything. You may want to have the same discussion with your doctor.
