I do have an unusual question to ask others. I feel like my female area is taking on some of the pain. Is this normal? It's a throbbing like sensation inside. Really uncomfortable. Any other suggestions on getting through this would be much appreciated.
Why they tell us that it's a painless procedure that allows us to get back to work the next day is beyond me.
This pressure is driving me crazy. Will it ever be over?
It's driving me crazy and I'm ready for it
To be over.
Hope we get to feeling better right away!
The first anascope was uncomfortable as well as digital exam due to the previous day’s issues. I communicated that. However, the doctor proceeded. 3 nurses and the doctor set up for procedure. I asked for something to help with relaxation or discomfort. They said no. I could take Tylenol after.
When they started the process, I noticed the anascope they were using for procedure was longer and wider. It had a scoop at end which holds hemorrhoid to be banded in place. As the scope was inserted in scraped something. I immediately started sweating and my legs trembling. The nurses held me down and said I was doing a good job. I didn’t think so. I was in pain and told them. They used suction device then gun to shoot on band. I jumped with pain. The pain horrible.y eyes were tearing. They told me to sit up. Relax. Try and walk. It was unbearable. I asked them to remove. The staff reset up. Again inserted the larger scope and I thought they removed band. I asked if it was off. The doctor said no she shifted it bc it was a well placed band. At that point I was so upset and uncomfortable. I felt like I had to use restroom. Couldn’t sit still. I had a dull and pinching pain. The doctor offered to examine again. I said no and wanted to leave. They had me walk around hall and released me. They told check out desk to just let me leave and the nurse would contact me.
I had a 5 min journey to my car which turned into 30 mins. During that time I contemplated going back or to ER. Luckily, I had a friend with me. I was in no shape to drive. I had a 1.5 hour drive home. Tossing and turning.
As soon as I got home I got in bath. The bath helped along with 800 mg of Advil and 10 mg of Vicodin I had from previous procedure.
During the past three nights, I have been unable to sleep without waking up in pain. I finally was able to have a small BM today. I’ve been taking miralax to help.
The nurse called me on day 2 and said please don’t hang up. She apologized for my “rare” discomfort, but only suggested Tylenol and baths.
Yesterday, I called office to ask for ointment for itching, which the nurse said is common in healing.
They also asked me email photos of my hemorrhoidal prolapse.
This whole ordeal has been very painful and still is. The only thing that has been helping is a pain regimen, sitz baths, ice packs, and sitting on heating pad.
I don’t if I was injured during process or this is normal pain.
I still have many hemorrhoids to be ligated. In the future, I will opt for sedation and ask for a prescription for painkillers for home.
Praying this pain subsides soon.
I had a colonoscopy 6 days ago. 10 biopsies, one small polyp removed and two hemorrhoids banded on the anal rim.
I did have mild sedation and the main procedure was painless. When it came to the banding, the doctor did say that it might be slightly painful . . . and it was. The anal rim has a nerve supply whereas higher up in the rectum and colon, then it doesn't.
The pain became quite severe in the subsequent 24 hours and so I phoned the endoscopy suite and initially they said just take Paracetamol or Ibuprofen or both. I said that Ibuprofen is surely not supposed to be taken where there is a chance of bleeding and they reluctantly agreed! I then said is there anything stronger and initially they suggested Codeine Phosphate. I said that that causes constipation surely and the last thing I wanted to get was constipation (which would lead to straining). They also agreed with me!
It was left to my own GP a little later that day, to prescribe me Tramadol which he said I could take with Paracetamol if the pain became severe.
I did take both initially and it helped a lot. I then left out the Tramadol after a couple of days and things seemed to settle down.
My main issue now, 6 days on is that even though my stools are a good consistency, it is pretty painful to pass them. Once passed, the pain remains for several hours, or until I take some more painkillers.
I'm going to have another chat with my GP tomorrow just to see whether he thinks this is normal and how long it's likely to last.
Like others on here, I just can't help think that the medics play down the pain that some people clearly get and also the length of time that it can continue well after the procedure!
