I have had one alcohol injection in my left foot for what two podiatrists SAID was PROBABLY a Morton's neuroma. The alcohol injection has caused more problems and pain than the pain I had before, and I highly regret having it done, obviously! I would like to communicate with you to learn if you have gotten any relief. I am sorry that you have suffered so much pain from this. I wish I had never gone to the foot doctor to begin with.

I recently went thru a series of cortisone shots which did not work and then started alcohol injections - the podiatrist which did this did not finish the treatment he only did 2 and with having no relief stopped the treatment causing me to have surgery with an Orthopedic Surgeon who told me he caused more injury to my foot with the alcohol injections - do not believe in them and wondering if they are FDA approved? Don't think so and don't think podiatrists should be even suggesting these without more information the neuroma i had surgically removed was the size of a grape so I do not believe in this way of treating patients at all I am now in the process of searching for legal action against this podiatrist for the damage he did to my foot with the injections - THEY DO NOT WORK SORRY!!!!!!!!

terrie59... I'm curious how you're doing now after having surgery and problems caused from injections. I am currently getting the PAINFUL alcohol injections. Only on my second and have been told I should have some relief after the third. I sure hope so because I'm a whimp to pain and also because these shots are an extremely expensive experiment. Before starting them I almost felt it would be financially and physically worth it to just go through the surgery and get it done with. Until..... I did some research and found that the surgery is not always the end of the pain. Sometimes it causes a different pain from the first. So I decided to go with the injections. Wish I had found this site before I started them because now after reading your post I'm a tad nervous. Maybe I should have gone with my first thought? Fill us all in on your progress please. Thanks

I highly regret having had only one alcohol injection and wish I had just lived with the pain I had sometimes while walking, or would have had surgery. My aunt has had neuroma surgery and thinks it is the way to go. Her surgery was done in the Dallas, TX area. I highly recommend getting an opinion from a surgeon in a large metropolitan area such as Houston or Dallas. (I don't know where you live.) Read the post by the person who starts off with, "Okay, here goes...." Man, I feel bad for her/him. Maybe it would be best if we all just wear Dr. Scholl's insoles and STAY OUT OF THE PODIATRIST'S OFFICE.

I was diagnosted 15 yuears ago with Morton's Neuroma, doctor gave one cortisone shot, hwich provided relief for a time. When I returned in pain, was told that he owuld not do because of the tendancy to thin out the protective plate on the sole. (I forget the name) His recomendation, surgery- period. No orthodics, just cut it out. I took it to the boss, he told me I can'ty be out of work for six weeks, and there is no 'light' duty when you return.....perhaps I should look for another job. I lived with the pain for seven years, then read about the alcohol shots. I found a different podiatrist, who also  said surgery was the way to go. I told him about the shots, and he said he could do that, no guarantees, and the end result  might be that the nerve would eventually regebrate itself. The shots were absolutely painless, because he first numbed the are by freezint it. After the 2nd or 3rd shot, the paiun was gone, completed the series of shots, and was pain free for another seven years. But, like he said, the nerve eventually regrew, and little by little the pain returned.  I have watched video on the cryosurgery, go easy on your feet for 48 hours, then back to life. Trouble is there are only three specialists in the state who have been trained, and none are close. That's my story, hope to do that soon, walking is not good, shoes hurt, and I make my living on my feet.

Apologies for my rushed typing and errors. (above) I was somewhat shocked after reading here of the pain others describes from the alcohol injections. If I had read here first, I would have been scared off, wanted to let people know that I had a very favorable experience, I would not hesitate to get them again. This link may be of great interest to others, ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

Dr Marc Katz, Florida podiatrist who specializes in Cryosurgery for feet and ankles. I saw people mention that their foot doctor told them that they do not provide the service, ....because it doesn't work. (progressive foot surgeons will be up on the latest, but specialized equipment and training is needed) Done in the office, leave with a bandage, easy on the feet for 48 hrs, back to regular activity. Reported much higher success rate than regular cut and snip surgury, lsss time for recouping.
Can't wait to have this done.

I fractured my 5th metatarsal in my left foot day after Thanksgiving. After several doctors visits and still not walking normal, I was referred to a Podiatrist. He said I had neuroma and gave me 2 alcohol injections in my foot. Painful!!! My foot is not the same as before. Numbing feeling in my toes and pain in areas that I didn't have before. I am supposed to go back for 4 more injections (once weekly). I am not having anymore of the injections because they seemed to make me hurt more.

over a year ago I had a neuroma removed from my right foot, The recovery involved about three weeks off the foot which was pretty depresing. Wanting to avoid surgery again, I tried the alc. shots in the left foot. They were expensive and only delayed the inevitable. Only get the shots if you absolutly cannot take the time off required with the surgery, then plan on getting the surgery within a year anyway.

In the fall of 2011 I had cortisone injections (about 6) which shrunk the neuroma but pain was still there.  So the Dr. did a series of about 5 alcohol injections which didn't do much.  Per his advice, I decided to have surgery thinking this would eliminate the problem.  It's been 3 1/2 months and my pain has not gone away, it's just different.  Instead of feeling like I have a sharp rock in my shoe, it feels like I have a small ball in my shoe.  I have moved from VA where I had the surgery, so I can't go back to the original Dr.  I now live in Dallas, TX and have to start from scratch and find a new Dr.  I don't know if I need surgery again, if the neuroma grew back, if it's scar tissue I'm feeling.  I've read online about a stump neuroma where the nerve endings go crazy and just start growing haphazardly.  Maybe there is another therapy to help?  My back hurts because I now favor one foot.  Trying to look for a job and don't exactly paint a picture of health with the way I'm walking.  I thought the surgery was going to be a new lease on life, and instead I feel so depressed about the future.  I wonder if I'll ever feel normal again.

I had an alcohol injection for morton's neuroma in my right foot on Monday... I had been given a pain killer shot before but I found the pain was excrutiating...I felt my whole foot was on fire. I am still limping as my foot swelled up so much and therefore have no idea if the injection worked. I have slight feeling that it didn't work as today (Wednesday) when putting pressure on the foot, I can slightly feel that nagging pain from the neuroma. Reading all the above comments is quite dis-heartening... now why do I go? And unfortunately here in Cyprus I don't have that many choices.

I have been diagnosed with a neuroma in both feet. I am currently going through very painful alcohol shots in the right foot. Tomorrow I am getting the third shot. After reading all of the postings, I am really hoping this shot starts to work. I am scared every visit because the shot is so painful. However waking up several times a night with painful feet, I am dying for any relief. Could we post more positive feedback on the alcohol shots if there are any? I just need relief. Is there any happy news with this shot?

I have Morton's Neuroma in Left foot tried the injections the ball feeling was insane and I to being over weight and exercising 1 1/2 hrs a day it just got progressively worse. March 23rd 2012 I had my surgery. 2 toes were done to remove the neuroma's & I have a 10 cm incision along the inside of my foot arch to heel. My Dr. did NOT take the nerve instead he released it. I had other complications with my surgery the nerve & a vericose vein were wrapped bad they had to collapse the vein plus I had a severe tear in my tendon with micro tears as well which I hear is NOT uncommon with Neuroma. I'm still today NOT able to walk or stand I go back May 8th to see if I can start standing & stepping... I do have nerve pain which is expected I decided to go with a attempt of saving the nerve it is a 50/50 shot If my nerve pain does NOT go away I will be going back in to have the nerve removed. It is a very hard surgery not just Physically but Mentally took its toll on me as well 0 pressure on foot is not easy for 6wks... then months of healing to not be sure how much you heel Dr. hopes to get back 85% with no gaurantees My surgery had lots of complications with the nerve being mixed with the vein so my chances go down for saving the nerve. IF you decide on surgery find out about releasing the nerve not removing it. some Dr.s wont try to save it & it may be worth trying to some individuals

A week ago, i got my last alcohol injection for Mortons Neuroma. I had a total of six injections. I have no more pain from the Neuroma at all. I lived with this problem for about 20 years. I did my bet to avoid all things that would cause it to flare up, crouching down on the balls of my foot, high heels, etc. Sometimes the nerve would flare up, keeping me up at night. So far, I claim the injections to be a success. I received the injections 7 days apart. Before I got the injection I was scared to death about the pain the injection would cause. It sounds horrible. The injection was placed at the top of my foot, in the toe cleavage area. It really was no big deal! I didn't have the pain from the injections others are describing. With a few injections, it felt like the liquid was pooling at the bottom of my foot or that my sock was bunched up there. That feeling went away by the next day. I had a bit of soreness as well, but I stand almost all day long and I never was not able to work after the shot. I did have alot of itching at the injection site - like a mosquito bite. This would last a couple of days. My biggest complication just happened after my last injection. The itching was intense. 24 hours later I got a big water blister near the site of the injection and redness. My doctor treated me with antibiotics. Trying to find out more about this lead me to this site. It appears I developed perrilymphatic irritation. Not exactly sure what this is, but 7 days later it is healing and really not a big deal. It should be noted that I have never received any cortisone treatments, so maybe people who have had serious problems their tissue area had already been weakened by cortisone. Just a thought...
