allergic to most antibiotics

Hi, I am allergic to most antibiotics, so when I get an infection it’s almost impossible to get a medicine for me. Even when I get a safe antibiotic, I always take it with fear of having allergy or side effects. Is there any other option for me, except antibiotics?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR POST.
I also am allergic to "all" (not sure if that's really true) antibiotics. Erythromycin-Anaphylaxis, Sulfa (sulfonamide Antibiotics)-Hives, Amoxicillin (bulk) - Anaphylaxis, Levofloxacin-Mental Status Change, Omeprazole Magnesium-Anaphylaxis, Sulfamethoxazole-Hives, Codeine-Shortness of Breath, Mupirocin-Intolerance, Clindamycin-Hives I have NO idea what else there is, but at this point, I would take the Levofloxacin and have hallucinations, just to get better if I was "pressed' for anything else to take! I go to an allergist on Friday. A friend told me about something called: Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, Human Use. (fascinating read, and if "really works"), am thinking of trying it just to STOP an infection that absolutely will NOT go away with antibiotics, then I will have found the way to get around all this drug BS!  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use
Hey, that Diatomacaeous earth is supposed to work for that too!
Blue mountain coffee has lemon grass teas.
I doubt this will get read, but thought I would take a stab anyway. I was researching about allergies to antibiotics and happened onto this site. The last post was from a guest who had a story about a sinus infection with symptoms very similar to ones I use to get. Only at age 50 I discovered I didn't have sinus infections at all, I had migraines. In other words I was treated with antibiotics for most of my life for a bad headache. I have been told this is not uncommon.
Have you tried going to a homeopathic doctor? They can do great things.
I hear you. I too am allergic to a long list of antibiotics I am afraid to be around sick family members. I told my dentist I was allergic to Clindamycin. He said Nobody is allergic to Clindamycin! He gave me a prescription the generic! The drugstore caught it. My reaction to Clindamycin is swelling of the throat. I was so upset with him for not believeing me. I have started questioning myself about if it is real or my fear. For this reason, it helps to know there are others out there with the same challenge. I hope someone is looking for an answer. A Fellow Hoosier.
I have the same problem so you are not the only one.
I have this same problem. I don't know what to do. The doctors act like its in my head, as if I can make my face swell or a rash pop up all over me. What steps what do you suggest I take to get help for this?
PLEASE GO THE NATURAL ROUTE. DO YOU HAVE A HEALTH FOOD STORE NEARBY? FOR YOUR UTI, TAKE D-MANOOSE POWDER OR CAPS. THEY ARE MADE BY 'NOW' BRAND AND CAN ORDER ONLINE. DRINK CRANBERRY J UICE. ANOTHER PRODUCT IS ALOE-CRAN; ORDER ONLINE. THERE'S A NATURAL ANTIBIOTIC CALLED 'SILVER BIOTIC' AVAILABLE FROM HEALTH FOOD STORE OR ONLINE; GOOGLE THE NAME.
I am allergic to ALL antibiotics. The last one my doctor thought was safe, sent me to the ER where I got three shots simultaneously. So not fun. Epi-pen, antihistamine and steroids. Anyway, my symptoms range from hives, swelling, throat closing etc but what I have learned is that a med-pac (Steroids) which I took for 7 days worked very well at helping to clear out my infection. Perhaps this will help for you.
I, too, have many antibiotic allergies. Can you please update us on your visit to Mayo in Minnesota. Was it worth your time? What did they do to help you?
You aren't alone. I began developing allergic reactions back in the 1980's. First Cipro, then amoxicillin, then lorabid, doxycycline, biaxan, erythromycin, But I tolerate azrythromycin very well. Problem is that it's losing it's effectiveness, and I now have recurring infections. Not a single doctor here in Tampa Bay Fl has any idea what to do. I am terrified of even trying anything new, but I don't think that there is anything left to try.
I noticed this was posted over a year ago. However, I too am allergic to everything...meds, vitamins, most foods, odors, etc. Have you had any success in finding a solution to your problem?
I am allergic to almost every antibiotic. Very scared that next time I may not make it through...had surgery 6 months ago and still have hives and itching. At times it looks as if I have been beaten. I need to have my knee scoped and my surgeon said I don't know what I can give you!!!! I don't know either....so sick of this and it's so scarey
