I too have the dry red blotchy flaky skin rash that is being described here.  If I grow my beard out, I start to get painful sore type areas in the mustache and lower beard.  I go to shave and the spots become very red and sore.  I'm thinking about the Isopropyl rubbing alcohol that was described because I am at my wits end.  I have tried multiple anti acne medicines, behind the counter creams that the doctor has prescribed and different shampoos that I would use on my beard.  Does anyone know of what this might be.  It used to be really bad about a year ago and then lessened a little bit this past year but the flare ups have come back now.  HELP!!

I had red flaky itchy skin around my eyebrow area and both sides of the nose.  I put some SELSUN anti dandruff shampoo which contains Selenium Sulphide on the areas affected, left it on for 15 minutes and washed it off.  The results were wonderful. My skin went back to normal after doing this a couple of times

I have had this rash around my nose for almost year and now blisters moving down towards mouth. The skin would scale terrible after blister.

Itching and burning. Was diagnosed as perioral dermatitis. After trying dozens of lotions and spending so much money. i decided to try a product called "MOLECULA SILVER" and put it on a cotton swab and twice a day applied and held to my nose for few minutes. After 4 or 5 days I'm happy to report, i had no more blisters and skin started returning to normal.

It's been 2 weeks now and still no blisters. I'm so relieved I could cry and will continueto swab for quite some time because I don't EVER want to deal with this AGAIN!! Ughhhh

Dude this is awesome! I have suffered from this problem for about 6 years now and I cant tell you how stoked I am that I found this post. I have tried everything and I mean EVERYTHING but nothing slays that sh*t like the Iso does. Bloody brilliant mate. You're a champion. Everyone needs to do this that suffers from this sh*t. Hit that up everyday morning and night...more if possible. Get as much of it on as you can coz it works. I cant thank you enough. Legend

Could it be Dermatitis herpetiformis! I have this just around my nose and chin, occasionally on my back! Could you be allergic to sugar! Maybe try eliminating gluten and sugar from your diet! Hope this helps.

I had dental work done in March 2015 ..and since I don't numb easily I had several shots , in my mouth..three days after that I had re blotches around my ears and my nose and in the edge of my hair line..I have never had anything like this before..I think it had something to do with the numbing shots ,but the denists says he doesn't think so..

you have described it to a T. I have had it on and off 3 years. I am female and middle aged. Itchy burning, Cortisone cream worked at first. Prednisone pills helped when it was covering my face severely. Going to see a dermatologist. Had allergy testing. No answers. Using AVENE makeup line for irritated sensitive skin. Avoiding sun when possible. It's not life threatening but it is affecting my quality of life. AVENE line helps, not a cure.

SOme of you are describing seborrheic dermatitis, others : allergies .. sun allergy? food allergies? my rash always starts chin, near bottom lip, right cheek , up the side of nose, following creases. People did say it was sun allergy. but I avoid sun , use sun screens, hats, .... WIND and High HUMIDITY, STRESS aggravate/ trigger it. This is not acne, not seborheic, more like an eczema.

I had perioral dermatitis for many years with no relief; all the creams, lotions and soaps only made it worse. About 15 years ago, myy excellent GP internist put me on 500mg of amoxicillin daily, and in a few weeks it cleared up completely! Occasionally I would go off it to see if my bacteria production had lessened as i aged, and the rash would come back within a few weeks. Back on amoxicillin, and it would go away again. I have now reached an age where the bacteria production (and, alas, many other things) has subsided, and my skin is clear and I am amoxicillin-free. But I beg you to convince your doctor to put you on the prescription long-term. I was able to still take antibiotics when I was sick, and I never had any other of the adverse reactions that other doctors cited as reasons to refuse me a prescription. Also, Panoxyl face wash is a good, gentle cleanser. And avoid any cream with retinol in it!!

Perioral Dermatitis is certainly a persistent and re occuring little irritation to deal with. I have used this site to experiment and this is what I have concluded will rid these symptoms of itching, flaking skin accompanied by sores and scabs. Creepy, but true and very annoying and embarrassing. Follow these directions and get rid of these symptoms once and for all. Go out and purchase these items at your local pharmacy: 1. One bottle of Non-Perscription strength Nizoral A-D ketoconazole shampoo 1% ( Comes in a dark blue plastic - flip top bottle) 2. A bottle of 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol. 3. A tube of Clotrimazole USP, 1% anti fungal cream. First, use the shampoo to begin removing the flakes of skin and healing the sores around the area of under the nose and above the lip - and under the bottom lip & above the chin which has broken out as well. Use the Nizoral shampoo on these areas two times a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Use a soft terrycloth wash cloth and make a good foaming lather over the areas of infection - don't scrub the areas, just gently wash and then rinse. After about four days, the areas should become less red, the flakes will be gone and there should be scabbing in the area, which will finally become clear as the scabs are rinsed away. Again, don't use harsh rubbing, let the sores heal and the skin will become clear on its own. Next, after all of the sores have healed and there is no more scabs, continue to use the shampoo Nizoral less frequently, perhaps once every two or three days. Now, & on a daily basis, change the routine for about one week: Blot the areas that were infected with the Isopropyl alcohol twice a day. Use plenty of alcohol by pouring the solution onto a Kleenex or bathroom paper and make sure the once infected areas are fully dampened. You might want to hold your breath or practice a little. The alcohol when evaporating will cause you to become sensitive to the solution as it evaporates and take your breath away. A little practice and you will get used to it. After each alcohol treatment and while the alcohol is still damp, squeeze out some of the Clotrimazole Cream and rub it well into the areas that were infected. Finally, once you have done the above treatments, this new regular routine will most likely be needed: On a daily basis - and just once a day - either in the morning or eventing, blot the alcohol on your face and while it is still damp with the alcohol, use the Clotrimazole cream afterwards. Nizoral shampoo is expensive and not necessary to use every day… just occasionally… perhaps once every three or four days while you are in the shower, with the followup of the alcohol and Clotrimazole cream. Don't skip your daily treatment. If you miss doing the regular routine once a day and the sores start up again, you will have to start with the Nizoral treatment from the beginning as the alcohol will burn like hell if you put it on the open sores. Good luck and once you get the hang of this, it should only take about one or two minutes a day to keep up the clear skin. As a note, there seems to be a correlation to a condition called "Candida Overgrowth" in your system and you might want to speak to your doctor about it. Good luck and I hope this works for you as it has done for me.

New message from selwocc. As a further note, I have now discontinued using the Clotrimazole ointment after the alcohol treatment. I now wash the problem areas with the Nizoral about every three days. But, each day I continue to blot the areas with plenty of the alcohol. All of the infected areas have cleared and there are no more outbreaks. Hope this helps this thread.
