I am a very healthy person, however,I too have this swelling on both sides of my neck just above the collar bones. I had a biometric Asyra scan a month ago and was advised to take the necessary steps to increase my lymphatic drainage (see another post that reference this above). I have been under extreme stress since December of 2013 and believe stress is responsible for this swelling. I have reduced my alcohol intake to a glass of wine in the evening and take herbs to help with the lymphatic drainage. I will post again to report progress.
I've heard lymphatic massage is also helpful and promotes drainage-what are the herbs you are taking?
I too have swelling above my collar bone both sides. I have thyroid nodules, biopsied 2x and so far labs and biopsies benign.
Right now the gel like swelling is pretty bad (comes and goes) and I am very ill with ? the last 2 years. No diagnosis is frustrating, especially when I know that I am very ill. Not one doctor can tell me what is going on. A virus? phooey. This seems to be a problem for a lot of folks.
Has anyone had Lyme Disease or been bitten by a brown recluse spider? I think this is a parasite and no one knows how to test for it.
I've had this same problem for over a year now. I'm commenting because I tend to grind my teeth a lot and seem to clinch my shoulders very often (tension) and I don't see those triggers listed by many with these symptoms. My GP said he had no idea what it was. I find that my symptoms are the worst when i get home from work and are at their least after a few relaxing days off. Hope this helps all of us find an answer.
I also have the swelling on both sides of my neck, just above the clavicle. However, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident last year and sustianed injuries to the cervical spine, including herniated discs at C4-5 and C6-7. I was told that the swelling is due to muscle spasms and pain as a result of the neck injury, which makes sense to me. Some days the pain and swelling are worse than other days, but it's always there.
Hello I had the same today and was a bit freaked out. After reading more about nodes and anxiety with me it would surely be stress. After a hard year I have let myself go a bit. . Gained a few kilos. Similar things in my life have gone away by healthier living and exercise. My swelling down now it lasted about three hours on both sides of my collar bone.
So I noticed the fat pads in my neck early december which sent me into a spiral of death! I did as much of you did and searched on line...(bad idea). I decided to make an appointment to see my PCP after the holidays, and kept an eye on the lumps. I finaly got in to see my PCP on Jan 28th, 2015. He gave me the regular work-up, normal. I showed him the lumps and he of course called them fat pads. Most likely nothing to worry about. Sent me for a Ultra-Sound the following week...Normal. Fat Pads. My PCP then referred me to an ENT. Now...this is where all hell broke lose for me. My PCP noticed I had changed my Insurance as many do at the beginning of the year and decided that because it was a form of Obama Care he would not accept my insurance, would not write the referral, and said he wouldn't see me as a patient anymore....death spiral again...In the mean time I happen to know an Endo. He took a look for me and said maybe Cushings, but because I did not have any other symptoms it was probably pseudo Cushings brought on by stress and not being as active as I was...(I hate winter and seriously get the blues). So. I finally two months later I was able to find another PCP...blood tests normal, did a Cushing specific test where you take a pill at midnight and get tested the next morning at 8 am....negative cushings....That is where I'm at. I sometimes feel as though the lumps get bigger and then smaller...but honestly I noticed them more when I'm stressed about something. (see "The Divided Mind") by John E. Sarno. M.D. By the way my background. I work nights...I have for the last 6 years, I believe that plays a major roll. My anxiety levels are always high...thus lots of cortisol being released into the blood stream....not good for you. I say all this as I feel better about not having Cushings...but still want answers as to if these ever go away...I am back on my bike and exersizing daily...so maybe that will help....I never see a lot of responses on this site , maybe it's because we're all too stressed about our lumps...but I would love to hear how everyone is doing...have the lumps decreased for anyone?....by the way I'm 47....ok..enough rambling...I hope nothing but the best for everyone.
Hmmm. I too went to my endo who did some very specific tests for Addison's disease (another adrenal condition like Cushings). Nope. Not that. Not fat pads or lymph nodes or anything else that he can find. And I live in a pretty stress free world except for ill health which cannot be diagnosed. So I dunno. My swellings get smaller and larger depending on the day. I wonder if allergies play a role in this?
I'm beginning to think allergies do play a role....Of course searching for answers means getting on the internet...which I do not want to do...:-)
John, I think the teeth clinching plays a role as well...
CHECK OUT CUSHIONS DISEASE OR IT MAY BE JUST FAT DEPOSITS
Hi, about two years ago I had an anaphylactic reaction to the Drug Lyrica. My neck swelled up along with other allergic symptoms and I also had the swelling on both sides. I was in the hospital for three days. I finally got over all that but the swelling has remained, although not as pronounce as it was, it is still there and larger on my left side. No Dr knows what it is from. It's interesting how many other's have it too in this thread. I was told it is prob lymph and they don't want to mess around with that. It happened when my body was in "allergic shock" and it produced the Lymph to fight it, now it's stuck there.
This appears to fit my gelpak on left shoulder near trap muscle.

After having the same issues, and seeing many doctors who also told me it was nothing to worry about, or that they could find nothing wrong. I went to an ENT he told me, and I quote" you can just go ahead and slap me now, because it's nothing more than fat deposits"
I of course felt that couldn't be right, because the swelling just appeared one day out of nowhere. So I asked him, "so my neck just got fat over night?" and e says it just happens with a lot of women, he sees it all the time. I don't know about men, but in women it is common.
