Again, some people actually might have Hodgkin but most people have been dealing with this phenomenon for years so it's not likely to be anything life threatening.

wow I am sorry you are experiencing this, it's not enjoyable, but maybe with a physician experiencing it some answers might become available. My doctor just looked at me like I'm crazy. I even went to see them after drinking on a weekend so they could see how severe the pain actually is. Did every basic logical test and gave up.

I also only drink spirits so I tested beer, I only consumed beer for the event I was at and sure enough like clock work the pain was there, it also took longer to subside.

My pain started 3 years ago out of the blue, it's horrible and I also discovered that it occurs even if I don't drink a lot but say I go out for dinner and have a couple of drinks Friday and Saturday.

I am wondering about the enzyme theory that was mentioned previously, as my tolerance to alcohol has also decreased or if it's a allergy to a common preservative, as I don't consume Coke and the like on a daily basis, I only drink water or coffee.

I get this every time I drink. It's something about the release of endotoxins into the bloodstream which takes nutrients out of the muscles which causes a tenderness and bruise like feeling. There's a drug that has been discovered that stops this, but no idea how to get it.

How do you know about the drug then??

I too have tested many different alcohols including spirits and beers. Doesn't seem to have made a difference unfortunately.. But I drink mildly last night for New Year's Eve a red sweet wine but drank lots of water too & haven't had too terrible effects yet. I started drinking last night about this time so I guess we'll see.
Very much hope to find answers and solutions!
And yes with a physician experiencing this as well hopefully more answers will emerge.

Wish everyone luck.

This sounds like what happens to me when I drink rum. For lack of a better term it's almost like I'm allergic to the rum. Drinking water tends to speed up the process of feeling better but 15 to 30 minutes sounds about right. I just don't drink rum at all, problem solved. I drink vodka now :)

Please keep us updated on this doctor! Of course the easy solution is not to drink but what fun is that? I am so sick of my "booze skin bruised" feeling! Like a horrible invisible sunburn from neck to knees!!! I feel you are on to something noting that the skin experiences pain to the slightest touch on the fattier parts of the body!!! I am anxiously awaiting what you experiments reveal!!!

*update*

I decided not to drink Christmas Day because I didn't want to be sore, and I didn't have a single drop of anything... But I did eat food I don't normally eat and I had 2 cans of Coke Zero... Also something I don't drink unless it's got booze in it haha Guess what... Got the pain!! Not as bad admittedly but it was still there!

I have been refered to an allergist as it seems to be something in something my GP says, so one step closer to finding out what the hell!

Thanks so much have had this experience a few times over the past few years and worked out it was something to do with alcohol consumption now I know this confirms I need to reduce my alcohol intake on those odd nights out

Hey everyone, I am experiencing this as I type and why I'm here. Oddly, I drank no alcohol last night and actually consumed a large amount of hot tea and water (due to a mild cold / sore throat). The night before that was a different story - quite a lot of alcohol (whiskey). I do consider myself a binge drinker. The areas most tender are the ribs, belly and sides (love handle area). I am also experiencing a few under skin swollen "bumps" in the fatty areas of my breast / underarm area a few others have described. I too am beginning to believe it may be lymphatic related. Reading about that leads me to terms like "oxidative stress" and inflammation. Lack of certain vitamins and not eating certain foods to promote lymphatic flow and drainage. I'm guilty of that! While my mind is more at ease about it, I'm taking it as a warning sign to perhaps cut back / abstain for awhile and get this under control. I'll keep searching and wishing everyone good luck!

This is great to know that other folks have these symptoms. I especially get pains and tightness at the neck, shoulders and thought maybe I also suffer from nausea, and headaches at the bottom left of the back of my head. I also suffer from the feeling of being beaten up, although no bruising etc.

I heard from a doctor friend that zantac an hour before drinking will takes the symptoms away.

I am more relieved on finding this forum, at times its so bad i thought i was going to die.

Thank you

I am happy that I found this source. Looking this up years ago I only found hodgkins and was so scared. I recently had two bloody Mary's and forgot to make sure the type of vodka they used. I have pin pointed mine to vodka, and have learned that certain types do not give me this feeling (titos and kettle one) so I just try to stay away from the rest. I started to wonder if it was the base ingredient it's made with since titos is corn based, or if it has to do with the number of times its distilled. Doesn't effect me with beer or wine.

This exact same thing feeling happens to me - not every time - but not had enough to drink to discover a pattern. But each time, I'm thinking a stressful day then attempting a glass of white wine with dinner. This post is the only mention I've found of what I go through so was curious if you ever came up with an answer.
