I am 36 years old and I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago after suffering from chronic nausea for a little over a year. Every test I had said I was okay until they did the hida scan which showed my gallbladder functioning under 3%. I have 3 children - 2 were born before surgery and 1 after. The chronic nausea subsided but I still suffer from SEVERE nausea on and off. I can only describe it to the doctors as feeling pregnant with no baby inside. I thought I was suffering early menopause, hormone imbalance, allergies and I have spent thousands of dollars on tests, etc... Although I am thin I can not exercise because I am either too tired from no nutrients absorption or I have the urge to go because I ate something. I have spent years in doctors offices and I NEVER WAS TOLD about gallbladder side effects. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and the medication for that DOES NOT HELP. I also have SEVERE pain in my chest that I describe as heartburn but IS NOT heartburn. It comes on once or twice a month before or after my period. What to do? Live miserably or find the right doctor? I will travel anywhere to find a cure?

As I read all of these postings, my heart breaks, because no one is telling you all the Gastrointestinal tract is a very complex system compromised of many systems, where as if one system is off, it could very well back things up and symptoms show up, like in the gallbladder. The Gastrointestinal tract consists all many organs that could lead to nausea. It has the stomach, duodenum, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, common bile duct, pancreas, ascending colon, appendix, cecum, descending colon transverse colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum – which could potentially back things up leading to symptoms of nausea.

As I can tell, everyone who has had their gallbladder removed they are still having nausea. Even more so, doctors are giving you medicines, which mask the problem, and you could be masking a serious condition such as cancer. I would not stop at taking a drug that gives you a little relief here or there could be a cancer brewing, but to small to test. But, I would ask for certain blood test to rule out the fact that there is no detection of cancer, particularly the cancer test for liver and pancreatic. Please don't stop probing; please don't stop, until you find the exact reason why you are having reason. The gallbladder may be a secondary condition to what is really going on in you system. The second advice I would do is go onto the Internet, and start looking for medical sights that may point to what it could be, given your symptomology. Stomach cancer or pancreatic cancer is no monster you want to deal with. You may be "tolerating nausea" as my husband has for the last 5 years", but I wouldn't be surprised at year 10 he will be diagnosed with cancer. Each one of these areas of the digestive tract must be studied extensively. Please don't take this to be something that will blow over because it won't. I wish all the best of luck.

Has anyone that posted here found a solution? It seems many websites have these kind of questions but either no one finds an answer or no one comes back to tell what they found or worked for them.

As to the 36 year old post w/3 kids and UC...I would love to chat with you as we have a lot of symptoms in common. My problem with nausea started after my second child.

I'm a 38 year old female and I too have had chronic nausea, lack of appetite for 11 months now. I have had 2 endoscopies, CT of pelvis, CT of abdomen, CT of head, abdominal ultrasound, 2 hr. gastric motility exam, PH test, tons of bloodwork, etc, and so far nothing comes up but chronic mild gastritis. The doctors all tell me that gastritis can't be causing my symptoms. I am going back to the Mayo Clinic in two weeks for a more extensive motility exam to test for GP. I have not had the HIDA scan yet but am thinking I should. The only drug that seems to have helped me is domperidone but I had to stop taking it because it caused me to produce breastmilk. This is incredibly frustrating. I feel so alone with this condition, although I'm realizing through this blog that other people are going through the same thing. I have tried all of the natural remedies to ease the nausea:DGL, aloe vera, mastic gum, ginger. Nothing seems to help. Has anybody else had any success with treating the nausea? Help!!

I was bedridden for several weeks with nausea and struggled with it for years thereafter. Now I have none. I'm not saying I have the answer for you, but I've been on the Marshall Protocol for 17 months and am nearly symptom free now, with increasing progress by the month.

I recommend that anyone with chronic problems, including nausea, investigate one common root cause to all of these compounding problems. It is that the body is infected with a specific class of bacteria. The best explanations I've found is on http://bacteriality.com, and the only treatment I'm aware of (that really works) is the Marshall Protocol at www.marshallprotocol.com.

The explanation is complex, and the treatment is long and not easy (2 years+), but real people are really recovering, and nobody is trying to sell anything. :-)

Hey, I know how you feel. I've had chronic nausea for 3 years now. I have a lot of health anxiety (my pulse is always in the 100s when I go to the dr because i'm so nervous, even if it's just for a check-up), and so after bloodwork and an abdominal ultrasound came back normal, the dr decided he'd exhausted all the options and referred me to a shrink. Oddly enough, the antidepressant they gave me also happens to be an anti-emetic (Remeron-you should look into it-it's great for nausea). Anyway, when I take the remeron I feel better the very next morning, and antidepressants take at least a few weeks to kick in so I know it's only working because of its anti-nausea properties and not the antidepressant ones. Anyway, I'm going to have an upper GI in June. Hopefully it's nothing serious. I hope you've found a more understanding doctor.

After reading about the symptoms of on going nausea, acid reflux, gastritis, I was very sick with similar symptoms. And because I had taken medicine for a head injury, which are mainly the same as for bipolar, I had 5 different doctors, tell me it was all psychosomatic and there was nothing wrong we me. Well, 13 specialists later, it was discovered that I had a possible tumor on my parathyroid gland. When that was removed, my symptoms left in 2007. My Vitamin D level was very low and my Calcium was slightly elevated. I had two types of tests sonograms on my throat/neck. They were not painful. Check with an Endocrinologist. I am a female, 56 years old.

I know no one has posted here in a while, but I thought I would offer some advice in case anyone was still checking here. I used to experience nausea constantly. When I lived in Italy I wouldn't leave the house without a plastic bag, just in case I got sick on the metro.

I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease (a condition caused by the ingestion of gluten -- wheat, rye, and barley). Celiac Disease can cause a number of different symptoms. Celiac Disease and Gallbladder problems often go hand in hand as well. You can ask your doctor to run a simple blood test to check for it, but you need to gluten load (eat at least two peices of bread a day for two weeks before the test) to get acurate results. If diagnosed the "cure" is to avoid eating gluten. After being sick for so many years, I was shocked at what a difference a few months on a gluten free diet made. It's been almost a year and I'm doing things I haven't been able to do in years because of how sick and tired I always felt.

Hope this helps.

Hi there, I too have been suffering from the same complaints. I am a 26 year old female, just had two kids, (i believe the hormone change in pregnancy adds to gallbladder problems) and I am a very healthy slim person, So I am very gutted after finding polyps in my gallbladder - and possible surgery required! The Doctors have suggested no surgery and a further check up scan in a YEARS TIME, but I am going to go private to have the surgery - My nausea is now every day at some stage (mainly night time and early morning (like morning sickness) - I have went without any medication as I dont believe in all these drugs. I would love to hear from anyone who had the same complaints and has went through the surgery - are you now better? have you had any worse side effects? -

- Wishing you all health and happiness! (and God Bless Too!)

I see you posted a few years back, have you found any relief or answers of why you have constant nausea? I had my gallbladder out due to low function, felt okay until day 3 nausea returned and was terrible. I had the surgery 4 months ago and still have nausea all day everyday. My docs are puzzled. Going for more testing tomorrow. PLEASE let me know how you are...

This email is to mooeygoose:

Have you found any relief? Do you still have severe nausea? I am so miserable and sick with nausea too. My doctor did not explain to me all the side affects that come along with gallbladder removal. I have had two friends have theirs removed since my surgery and they feel great and have no side effects. Please let me know if you found any cause of the nausea.

Thanks

My 27 year old wife just got out of the hospital for the 2nd time in the past 3 weeks to try to solve these same types of problems. Short history is:

1) VERY sick all throughout pregnancy
2) C-Section about 10 months ago (perfectly healthy baby boy!)
3) Vomiting about 3-4 days per week ever since
4) About 3 weeks ago, stopped holding down any water/fluids, admitted to hospital w/ bloody stool
5) Diagnosed w/ Gastroparesis and Colitis, causes unknown, sent home after 6 days
6) Went back to hopspital a week later, symptoms did not improve
7) Diagnosed w/ Gastroparesis and removed gall bladder, sent home yesterday after 7 days

The interesting twist in all of this is that she was on and off of her birth control a few times during the past 10 months, and the nausea/vomitting seemed to follow the birth control. The doctors didn't seem to want to buy into this too much though.

Curious, how many of you with similar symptoms started seeing problems around the same time you started taking birth control???

The other thing is that the narcodics used for the pain of gallbladder surgery are definately making her nauseous post-op. Trying as much as possible to not take them.

Hi there, I am 23 and I know what you all are talking about and going through. I have a spactic colon and a stomach that will not digest correctly. Now I have been having sharp staping pains in my stomach that will not go away. I had a ultrasound done and they found a polyp on my gallbladder. They are wanting to remove it. I hope that it goes well and that it will fix the promblem. And like the 1 person said Zofran is a good med that you can take to help with sickness.
