After a couple of years of gi pain and problems I had my gallbladder removed one year ago and felt mostly better. Eight months later, I began having chronic nausea that lasted three months. I lost my appetite and 15 precious pounds off my slender frame. I nearly lost my job and couldn't work for most of that period. I was hospitalized four times. The only thing that came back positive in the myriad diagnostic tests was bile in the stomach and nystygmous (jerky eye movements). What finally stopped the nausea was the SSRI antidepressant Celexa. I was resistant to taking an antidepressant at first until I found out that 90% of the seretonin receptors are in the gut and Celexa is also used to treat migraines and IBS. The drug has worked wonders. One month after my last bout of nausea I am back at work and feeling terrific. I have gained back almost all the weight. The nystygmous seems to be associated with migraines and one of the diagnosis for me was stomach migraines but I still think the nausea was associated with the gall bladder surgery. I have had dizzy spells for three years. Simply eye exercises are making the nystygmous go away along with the dizziness.

I had my gall bladder removed 7-15-10. I waited awhile to post on here but I think maybe I can help a few people who may be or have experienced what I did. I had chronic nausea leading up to my GB removal. Nothing but, no pain, just horrible nausea. The kind where you don't throw up but you feel sick all day long. The Dr. gave me nausea meds but they didn't work. I had my GB removed and felt great for 5 days and then it came back again. Worse than ever, still no vomiting just nausea. I was in bed for weeks upon end and lost a lot of weight. I called my Dr. (who happens to be my neighbor) he had me come in to check a few things. Among them, a urine test. Alas, I had a whopping bladder infection. So, he put me on CIPRO. After the 4th day I had the nausea again and called him at home (it was the weekend) he told me to stop taking the Cipro so I did. Still nausea. I had a reprive maybe for a week and then it came back again. This is at the end of August now. I am beginning to worry that there is something more wrong with me. I called him again. He told me it would take my body awhile to adjust and just be patient. About a week later I started vomiting and then I was really worried as I had never thrown up before. Found out I had strep. (it just keeps getting better I am thinking) I take omnicef for this. Now, it's September, school has started. I can barely get in my car to drive my kids to school I am so sick. The nausea meds work, but I have to take too much and it makes me drowsy.

Finally by the end of Sept. no more nausea. I woke up one day and it was gone. I was actually hungry for breakfast in the morning. It's January 2011 now. Things are much, much better. Nausea is gone. I can eat pretty much what I want. I just chalk it off to my body just getting used the the gall bladder being gone. I can't explain it, he can't explain it, it just happened. Everyone responds differently. I try not to think about it anymore for fear I'll be nauseated just thinking about my experience.

I hope this helps some of you. Just have faith that it will get better. If it persists, call your Dr. stay on top of it and ask for blood work and more tests if necessary.

I am 17 years old and have been experiencing extreme nausea for 2 months now. Doctors push it off to the side and first called it viral, the stomach flu, my period, but now some time next week im going for an ultra sound to look at my gallbladder. Took long enough haha. I just want an answer. This is interfering with my school work, my boyfriend, my friends, and the sports I love. Nausea is ussally worse in the morning and lingers all day but not as bad but then gets bad at night again. I've lost 15lbs in the past 2 months ( not that I mind that haha ) Most of the time, im just not hungry at all. Even if I feel fine, Im just not hungry. Some one please give me some insight and let me know if this sounds like a gallbladder problem?

I'm a 27 year old woman. I had my gallbladder removed 10 months ago and still have chronic nausea. They have done mulitiple tests including: endoscopy, food intolerance breath tests, food diaries, MRI on the brain, EKG, CT Scan, many blood tests, sleep study and PH probe study. All tests have come back normal...they just can't find anything wrong with me. The nausea hits me in waves some days are better than others and some days its a struggle because the nausea is so consistant. The nausea has taken over my life! I want my life back!! They put me on Zergid 40mg twice a day even though I don't have reflux which is of no help, in fact some days I think it makes me even more nauseous. My Primary put me on Phenergan to help with the nausea and it did help until my GI took me off of it so it would not mask the "real issue". It seems as though I have ran out of options...any suggestions on what tests I should suggest to my Drs would be extremely helpful!

I seriously thought I was the only one with these problems. I am so nauseous all the time, to the point where it wakes me up in my sleep and I have to run to the bathroom, but nothing happens. I just dry heave but never vomit. I will eventually go back to sleep then I wake up and it starts all over again. I cannot eat fast food, or anything heavy because it makes everything so much worse. I basically eat soup and light meals all the time, because anything else I eat makes me feel so nauseous. I am starting to think it is my gallbladder but I'm still not sure. I havent seen a doctor yet because I thought it was not a big deal, until it started being constant. I am 20 years old, exercise sometimes, not everyday though, and have no history of bad health. I had mono sometime last year and that was about it. Any insight from you guys would be a great help thanks so much!

Hi.
i'm 26 years old(or will be 9/28).

For the past say 5-6 years,i've had a once a month all day nausea/migrane deal where i couldn't eat nothing all day..and basically if i tried taking water,i'd end up throwing up..but take the Phenergyn ASAP when i have the migrane first.

Well, the past year,i've noticed i've had to take up to 2 phenergyn a day..starting when i wake up,til sometime toward the evening..and by the evening,i'm fine.,then, same thing over again.

I had a H.Pylori test done last year when i had stomach issues and couldn't eat meat without getting sick, and it was negative.

My doctor, doesn't think there is anything wrong..infact she diagonised me with a stomach virus this past week, and this past week the nausea has been at its alltime high, where on Tuesday i took almost 6 phenergyn in one day...but its backed off but still taking up to 2 phenergyn a day everyday.I've mentioned tihs to her,but she put me on something else,i've yet to try cause my insurance won't pay for it til the 1st....

I saw a GI doctor who wanted me to have a colonoscapy last year but i wantd to wait til the VERY last moment before i do cause i'm sorta scared to have one.
I want to get a ultrasound done on my stomach, but i'm sorta afraid of trying to "diagnois"myself to my doctor cause i already see her enough as it is and i think that i'm annoying her seeing her almost all the time now...being she's the doctor i should listen to her.
I've only been seeing her since last April when my doctor office suddenly shut down for tenncare fraud by the owner of the building..(not the doctor..)and was keeping people's paychecks who worked in the buildings and keeping paitent's medical files without erlease them(and to the fact we had a 500 year flood a month later.)

I'm SO confused and i do have alot of dryheaving, even when i'm taking SOME medication of any kind right now too..so i'm not sure what to think. the migranes really arn't a issue with the nausea anymore..its more the nausea is the issue than the migrane LOL

i am a bit overweight, and this issue like i said only started maybe nov/dec/Jan 2011

You definitely need to see your doctor again and get some testing. You are young and I doubt it is anything serious...It could be your gallbladder or gastritis or IBS....Can you schedule with another doctor so you can get some tests...I had a low ejection fraction with my HIDA scan and severe nausea that wouldn't stop so they removed my gallbladder....you need to do those tests just to be safe---good luck---and let me know how you do---if it is your gallbladder, you will do better eating very low fat...

If you are feeling that bad, I would go to the ER---I did feel pretty badly some days---weak, nauseated, diarrhea, pain in my ribs.....It will be 8 weeks this Friday since my surgery---I have cut back on my meds, am still taking carafate twice a day and only 20 mg. of prilosec and a "Nutr-west" digestive enzyme----I definitely feel better and can eat, walk a mile every day and go out and do things---still don't feel perfect though----what exactly are you experiencing? I am so sorry you are going through this and wish I could help....

Hi.
So,went to the ER last night,my CBC was normal, but they couldn't do a ultrasound cause our ER is small so i'd have to go to my DR office to do that...he didn't want to do a CT scan cause it wouldn't really detail anything if it was the gallbladder.

he sent me home with a dilaudid and phenergyn shot..he was afriad that if i took any pills i'd throw it up(i agreed.)..and sent me home after a hour.

He wrote on my discarge papers what i asked for him to do is write a small note for my doctor to give me a Ultrasound on my Gallbladder ASAP.faxed my papers to my dr today so i should get a phonecall tomorrow.

Ill follow up as soon as i find out whats going on.

I am glad you started the process---it does sound like your gallbladder though---the ultrasound and CT scan should help them diagnose you---the phenergan does work for the nausea---
