My daughter is 19 and has had persistent nausea for over a year now. SHe has lost alot of weight (at one point, she was 89 pounds) and the nausea would be worse at night or right after a nap. She has had alot of tests but had a Hida scan last week. On the scan, you can see the gall bladder empty down the bile duct, into the small intestine. My daughter's gall bladder emptied completely into her stomach! Not one drop into a bile duct to the intestine. It didn't even light up on a scan. Maybe it isn't even there? Has anyone heard of a gall bladder emptying into a stomach? There is NOTHING on the internet concerning this (just gall stones). I am hoping to hear from her Dr. soon, but curious if anyone else has had this problem?
Thank you for any help and I wish all of you luck in finding answers.

The bile duct is suppost to empty into the lower stamach and once a ball bladder is removed the bile duct is moved below the stomach so you don't have bile just spilling into the stomach with no restriction (the Gallbladder).

All of you also need to check to see if you are Celiac or gluten intolerant. It's a simple blood test. The symptoms are very similar.

My daughter is 22 years old and recently (9months ago) became a first time mom. She has had blood work done and thyroid test came back good. She is constantly feeling sick and pains in her stomach with diareah. She is exhausted with all of it. What test can they do to check if her gall bladder is the problem.

I'm a 26 year old male. Starting in January of last year I came down with what I believe was a stomach virus, as my wife got it right before I did. Shortly after I thought it had gone away, I had bouts of severe nausea, loss of appetite, intermittent diarrhea, not being able to eat the same amount at a single setting, but it didn't seem to be horrible. The "attacks" would last for a few days and then go away and my appetite would seem to return to relatively normal (usually couldn't eat as much as I thought I could before, but I had been noticing for a while up to the onset of these symptoms that I just couldn't eat quite as much as I used to. I figured this was just a part of getting out of puberty).
Went to a GI about a month after the symptoms wouldn't go away. He ordered a colonoscopy - came back normal. Then he ordered an endoscopy - that came back normal except a sign of mild gastritis. Then he ordered a small bowel series - that came back normal (although they did have to wait about 2 hours and give me a glass of water for my stomach to release the barium milkshake - but they said it was still within normal limits). For a few months I had been on 40mg of omeprazole and that seemed to help a lot. I wasn't back to 'normal', but I was able to go out and eat meals with friends and family without having to worry about getting extremely nauseous in the middle of it. MY PCP told me it was probably GERD, and the omeprazole was helping with the reflux. I didn't really buy this explanation, as I read that, while nausea can be a symptom of GERD, most of the time the symptom was heartburn several days a week. I would get heartburn, sure... but not many nights a week. Anyway, I told my GI doc that I was feeling better, and he said, "okay, good... because I'm not sure really what else it could be, and we'd just have to start eliminating things." He told me to come back in 6 months unless my symptoms came back. So, I kept up with the omeprazole, and I was finding that I was consistently having a gnawing sensation in my stomach. It made me feel like I was STARVING hungry, even thought I had just eaten and I knew I wasn't hungry. It's as if the sensations that a stomach sends to my brain are completely off anymore. I never get just a "hungry" sensation. Anyway, I went several months feeling this way... having some difficulties eating at times, but most of the time I was okay eating... but always with the gnawing sensation.
Then in December, I thought that the gnawing and some other symptoms (flatulence, some bloating from time to time, not being able to eat as much as I used to) was from the fact that there wasn't ENOUGH stomach acid. So, I decided to move from the 40mg Rx strength omeprazole to the 20mg OTC strength omeprazole. Holy cow! I thought I had solved it! Within 24 hours I was back to normal, it seemed. I was eating like I used to - for New Year's Eve I had crab cakes for an appetizer, a salad, filet mignon, lobster tail, double baked potato, bread, scotch (hadn't had booze in forever because it really messed with my stomach). Granted I was basically in a food coma that evening and had some indigestion, but by morning it had worked itself out and I ate breakfast. I was eating normal for the next two weeks, and then all of a sudden the nausea came back. It always comes back after eating a meal. It lasted for a few days, and then went away. Then a week later, the same thing happened. So, I went back to my GI. We both thought it might be h. Pylori, so instead of doing a breath test, he just gave me Pylera to take for 10 days. So, I did. That stuff messed up my stomach for those 10 days, but on the 11th day, the day after finishing it, my appetite returned, and I felt great and began eating like normal again. I went back to him and told him that it had be h. Pylori because I felt fine and had for the past week. He ordered a breath test to see if I may still have had it. I was COMPLETELY off the omeprazole... I hadn't been taking it for almost 2 weeks at that time. So, I waited a bit and took the breath test, which came back negative. I thought it had all been h. Pylori, that it was eradicated, and that now I felt great and it would be smooth sailing from there.
Then about 2 and a half weeks ago, the nausea came back... and it came back bad. It came back the day after Easter - and my wife and I had gone out to eat on Easter for Easter brunch, so I thought I had gotten some food poisoning because in addition to the nausea, diarrhea and abdominal cramps, I also ran a 100 degree fever. Within about 36 - 48 hours the symptoms were gone and I felt fine. Then about a week later, again, the nausea returned, and it hasn't left me. It's been the worst today and over the past 2 days. I can't eat or drink anything without getting incredibly nauseous. I was taking Zofran every 6 hours, but then I started having muscle spasms, so I decided to stop. The idea of eating anything makes me nauseous - certain smells are making me nauseous as well. The only thing that makes it better is laying down and relaxing... which is what I'm doing right now.
I called my GI and he ordered an abdominal ultrasound to check my gallbladder, pancreas and liver... and he also ordered a gastric emptying scan to check for gastroparesis. I've been reading up on gastroparesis, and it scares the s**t out of me (if I had any to scare out...). I have always loved food, and became a really good cook. I don't want to give up eating the things I love, or experiencing good times out to a restaurant with my wife and family. If it is gastroparesis, I hope and pray that it is viral onset, and that it will get better over the next year or so. I thought it had gotten better, but apparently not. I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm depressed and the nausea is just inhibiting my life. I can't schedule anything in fear of not being able to meet the obligation because I'm confined to my bed because of nausea. I just want to be back to the way I was two years ago... why is that such a complicated thing to ask for???

I am so sorry you are experiencing this problem...I went through the same thing for six months...I actually had my gallbladder out after a month I had every test possible---even two CT scans---then the gastric emptying test showed slow gastric emptying (still in the normal range but very high normal); consequently, my Gastroenterologist told me I had gastroparesis---it scared me to death too but he put me on liquid erythromcin, protonix , zantac, digestive enzymes and probiotics----I had been totally wholistic before this and it was difficult to take those meds but I was so sick that I complied...I had lost 22 pounds and started out thin so i was scared ---after three months he pulled me off the meds and I still feel fine---I am not perfect and have some heartburn from time to time but just take an occasional zantac for it----so--
I do suggest you get the gastric emptying test...My problem started with a stomach virus also so my doctor feels it was viral...I really believe you will get better....Try to take a walk each day even if you don't feel great and try to get at least a protein shake down so that your digestion doesn't just shut down....let me know how your scans turn out..I really believe you will get better----if it was something terrible, they would have found it---Blessings and good luck

I am a 50 yo man and have had nausea for abt 8 or 9 months now just like many of you. I drink and smoke only on weekends (and work out 4 or 5 days /week) and have found that it is aggravated by the alchohol, but when I don't drink its still there. Like many of you, it starts shortly after I awaken and usually stays with me throughout most of the day. I am scheduled for GI work but am hearing about the gall bladder from a lot of you and have to wonder. Here is something very interesting...
About 4 months ago, i did a two week detox / cleanse. No alchohol, no glutens, no caffeine, no red meat, no carbs and no dairy. Just veggies, water, most fruit, small portions of low fat meat like chicken and fish and supplements like fish oil and pro-biotics. Low and behold, within 2 days the nausea was completely gone and stayed gone for the next 12 or so days. As soon as i went back to my old ways the nausea came back.
Now a detox diet like I mentioned above is not sustainable (at least for me) but could diet be a part of this?

I am a 17 year old who has been dealing with constant nausea since I was 4 or 5 years old. I always went to the doctors and they all said I would make it up and say it was just because I didn't want to go to school. That was all a lie. I liked school so why would I "fake" being nauseous? It has gotten worse this past week. And through all the doctors I've been to and all the hospitals I've received many cat scans, mri's, a bunch of blood tests, x-rays, everything! They all say I have absolutely "nothing". I sure as hell know I have something because I can not take the constant feeling of throwing up anymore. I especially get it when I wake-up in the mornings and at night. I can not eat at all anymore and even drinking water gets me sick. I've been missing too much school and can't play sports or be active anymore. Any advice as to what I should do?

Thanks for the reply, lillye. I know I didn't reply right away, but I did appreciate your reply then. By the way, this is "Tom". I hadn't registered when I posted my earlier post.
I had the gastric emptying scan - and it came back completely normal. My stomach was emptying exactly how it's supposed to be. My abdominal ultrasound found nothing either. The bloodwork I had came back suggesting the possibility - though inconclusive - that I may have Crohn's. The next step is a capsule endoscopy to see if there are any signs of Crohn's in the middle of the small intestine where he couldn't get during the endoscopy or colonoscopy. He said that if I do have Crohn's, it is a very mild level, as I do not have severe symptoms. Though, he did say, that typically we don't see nausea as the main symptom for Crohn's.
In an attempt to find out if my blood pressure medication was causing the problem, he took me off of that, and I haven't had a problem with nausea much at all since then. I was doing great for about a week or so - I was eating burgers, pizza, salads - and feeling fine. In the last week, though, I just have a problem with the other end of feeling stopped up and not really passing much. My abdomen gurgles a lot after eating, and I can't eat much at all. When I do eat, if I press on my abdomen about 20-30 minutes later I get pretty queasy.
Anyway... bottom line... I don't have gallstones and I don't have gastroparesis. Though... I may have some amount of Crohn's. I'll let you know how the capsule endoscopy goes.
Thanks again.

For "Tom" and others on here who are having nausea and can't figure out what is wrong, please, look into the possibility of Candida and Mercury Poisoning. Just Google Candida, there are lots of websites. I had my gall bladder removed and never got better. After considerable time, research, and finding the right doctor, finally figured out both these things are related and often the cause of the symptoms mentioned by Tom, and usually not diagnosed by conventional doctors, even specialists. Mercury poisoning is often caused by amalgam fillings. Let me know if this turns out to be the case. I would not at all be surprised and would be interested to find out. Best of luck to everybody.

I had my gallbladder out almost a year ago with the same symptoms---nausea nausae nausea---almost constantly---I lost alot of weight ---25 pounds---and I was already a thin person---the Hida scan showed a very low functioning gallbladder so had it removed----however, I didn't really get any better for a very long time----They did every test known to man---small bowel study, 2 CT scans, ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopy (showed mild gastritis), x-rays, MRIs---all pretty normal----Then I tried to get into Mayo Clinic because ZI really thought I was dying I felt so bad---
Mayo couldn't see me for months so a friend who had a similar experience recommended another GI doctor here and I went---He did a stomach emptying test in which I was positive for gastroparesis---he said only 30 % of the time it was ideopathic(no known cause), so he tested me for the disorders which can cause gastroparesis (auto-immune diseases, myloma, diabetes)----all normal---so he treated me with liquid erythromycin (to increase stmach motility, zantac, protonix, digestive enzymes and xanax to sleep...I had been totally holistic before this but stuck to the regieme---Nothing had worked previously, so I listened to him...I immediately began to improve and today ----and for the past four months, I am doing great!---I am off all meds and can eat anything and have regained the weight---
A girl wrote me on this forum when I first wrote in and was terrified and she told me to just listen to the doctors, take it slow and I would recover---she was right....I know how miserable it is---if I can help in any way, just let me know---blessings

Thanks Bellco,
I lost 25 lbs since beginning of February, when i found out i have Hep B.this was all after one night of heavy drinking.I felt pain in my stomach (gallbladder) are while i was sleeping drunk at my friends house.
Anyway all attention went to Hep B.My liver enzymes were all good and liver ultrasound turned fine.
At the same time i started to feel pain on the right side of my chest and my GI prescribed Prilosec as i started to have acid reflex and constant burping or passing gasses.
I also start having pain in my gallbladder area and start to have nausea beginning in April. It is getting worst,at first i would just feel tired and sleepy but now i feel like i am going unconscious.
Every morning i CRUSH around 8 am with terrible weakness and nausea. Finally my doctor decided to listen and i had gallbladder ultrasound done yesterday.
What should i look for? Need advice.I just cant live like this. When i start feeling nausea it comes with panic attack and i simply cant live with it anymore.
BTW i am seeing union doctors and that takes forever.I wish i just walked to ER in February and stayed hospitalized until they find out whats wrong with me.
Thank you for your help.

You are definitely on the right track---If they suggest removing your gallbladder, I would do it---I had some panic with mine too because I felt so badly---I actually am a psychotherapist and specialize in panic disorder---It sounds like it is your gallbladder---Has the hepatitis been resolved? Make sure you have the antibody which assures you that the hepatitis is gone...
If the HIDA scan comes back with an ejection fraction under 35, it is probably your gallbladder and removing it will begin to solve the problem---let me know how the test turns out....Sometimes the gallbladder can be treated to avoid surgery---

Thank you i just found out about Hep B in january ,i am antigen negative and antibody positive meaning i am what they call healthy carrier (no such thing).
Pain in my gallbladder-liver started after a night of heavy drinking and i could swear i felt that pain like seeing stars while sleeping. Not long after i found that i have Hep B.
Did not have immediate pain in gallbladder/ liver area i think they started 2 months later when i purchased juicer and start making juices at home to support my liver even all my liver enzyme tests were fine and ultrasound was fine.
I may have moved some stones?Anyway i will find out Monday if i have stones or not.Do you recommend HIDA test anyway since i am nauseous every morning and sometime during the day if i move more.
I honestly appreciate your time.
