I think I have the same problem. I've had blood in my stool off and on for years and no one could find anything to explain the bleeding. About four years ago I began having erectile issues, then I began to have severe pain in my anus. A colonoscopy last year didn't find much, but did find some hemorrhoids. I notice that I have reduced feeling in my penis, but when I can masturbate then the pain in my anus is reduced. There has to be a connection. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
3 months ago, I heard from a friend that hemorrhoids can cause erectile dysfunction. I searched the net if true, then I came across this blog..
I suffered from erectile dysfunction for about 10 years and this is the period I had the hemorrhoids... I decided to have them treated and I did it 10 days ago... And today I decided to add my comment:
4 days after I had them treated, until now, I have a perfect erection, especially while sleeping (I can't remember since when I had it last)...
So my advice to anyone with erectile dysfunction and with hemorrhoids.. These bastards are the cause: have them treated.
I thought I should add my comment on this topic as the more times it's noted the harder it will be (no pun intended) to ignore the evidence. I am 28 and have suffered from hemorrhoids on and off for the last 7 years, the first time I found out I had them was when passed blood in a stool, I was sent to a specialist who confirmed I had hemorrhoids and may need an op if the problem persisted. I never passed blood again but had a few mild external hemorrhoid spells on and off over the next 6 years. About a year ago I got a large unbearably painfull external hemorrhoid worse than anything I had ever had before and it never disappeared, after 6 months I went to the doctor who put me on a month course of "Proctosedyl", which as far as I can tell did absolutely nothing. About 3 months later the pain and hardness of the 'rhoid eventually went away on it's own but I was still left with a small mass of soft tissue in that area. Until a year ago I had always had a very successful sex life, I woul often go 4-5 times in a night and barely kiss a girl without getting an erection, in fact I had never failed to get it up once in my life. Since the flare up a year ago I have been impotent, I've never really been able to get a full erection since and this wasn't something that happened gradually, it turned at that exact point. It's been about a year now and I've left it this long because I had doubts that it couldn't be something psychological, I'm not quite sure what the doctor will say as most medical evidence contradicts my theory and I am not currently in any pain either. None the less reading reports of men experiencing the same thing has given me inspiration, especially those who say getting surgery cured the problem. I wish you all the best of luck and will post any progress.
I have had extremely large hemorrhoids for years. Coincidentally, I had noticed that my penis had shrunk significantly over the years - by that, I mean an inch or more. Curiosity got the best of me and I measured it. It turns out that what had once been a 6" penis was now a mere 4 3/4 inches. Also, my erections had diminished greatly. I had gained a considerable amount of weight and assured myself that it was nothing more than a layer of fat which accounted for the lost length and possibly contributed to my "less than optimal" erections. There was no explanation for the loss of girth. Skip ahead several years and completely unrelated, I got back into shape and lost all the excess weight. Unfortunately, the loss of fat over my pubic pad only gave me back 1/8" of penis length. At last measurement, a full and raging erection was only 4 7/8". The past couple of days, new hemorrhoids have developed and have become EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I'm to the point where I'm ready to finally do something about them. In researching treatment options, I read about an interesting procedure called Transanal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization where the arteries supplying blood flow to the hemorrhoids are also treated. Now, to the final point: if hemorrhoids are fed by actual arteries, then that blood is being diverted from its natural and normal path there in the same region of the body. In my opinion, this seems a plausible explanation for the extreme penile shrinkage. This is just my own personal experience. I hope this post helps answer your question. In my case, the shrinkage is permanent. Hopefully, you'll be able to do something in time to avoid a scenario similar to mine.
Hi all
After reading all this messages I see myself with the same problem for about two years and found it a bit strange. I lack spontaneous erections during the day and at night.I believe the problem are the hemorrhoids and I got to that conclusion by a simple observation.
Since I was getting no erection when about to have have sex I started to take some viagras or cialis or sometimes natural supplements for erection. One thing I always noted was that when I took these pills I could feel a swollen thing on my anus and after a dozen of observations I thought, well if these pills increase the blood flow, then the blood is filling the hemorrhoids even with more blood, I must say that I was able to get an erection but even then was not a very strong one.
It's frustrating because I have no libido issues, I have all it needs to have an erection, when with a girl I feel confident and all of the sudden it fails. 3 years ago I was banging a girl 5 times straight in a night and now I have this problem.
This blog was very helpful to understand this. Now i'm sure the problem are the hemorrhoids which detour the blood to an area where its not needed.
About the viagras and swollen ball inside the anus i must say, whenever i needed to go to defecate while on the effect of the viagra i noted that my hemo's would get out of the anus more than in a normal day, so i guess this is all correlated.
Time to get treated and end this awful situation
This is very interesting, and I believe my case could be relevant to you guys.
About 6 years ago (in my mid twenties) I started taking Ritalin while in college, and up to that point had always had a) ultra-powerful erections, an ability to have sex 5-10 times daily, and a raging libido, and b) had never had a hemorrhoid.
Within a few months of starting ritalin, i was getting tortuously itchy in the anal area, and for the first time noticed lumps in the anal exterior while showering - I now know they're hemorrhoids.
I took the drug for 1.5 years, and was pretty much 'putting up with' the anal itching, lumps, small amounts of blood in my stool.
I always had digestive problems on Ritalin, and my theory is that perhaps the constriction of blood vessels, or action upon the pituitary gland, somehow screwed up my internal organs' function down there, causing hemorrhoids.
Then I came off the drug and used it only 2-3 days a month, but for the last 5 years, since that moment, I've generally had some kind of hemorrhoid for maybe 85% of the time.
But on top of this, I suffered a catastrophic loss of sensation in my penis (50-80% less sensation, depending on the day), and my erections, while sufficient for sex, were not ice-cutters like they used to be.
Spontaneous erections became less and less, and almost never in the daytime (only at night).
I could still perform, but not like the sexual Olympian I used to be, and not as enjoyably. This got me depressed.
However, I also occasionally got periods of 1-5 days where my erections suddenly got more powerful, sensations returned to maybe 70% of normal, yet these periods were unreliable.
Then Bam, I had a realisation. A few weeks back, I woke up in the middle of the night to experience the simultaneous sensation of both a very powerful spontaneous erection TOGETHER WITH a sensation in my anal region where my hemorrhoids were.
I then began to think, maybe the swelling is pressing on some nerves down there, or something, or they are linked areas in general.
When I began to think about it, I suddenly realised that there is direct correlation between the periods during which my external hemorrhoids are particularly large and pronounced, and the days when my penile sensation, erectile stiffness and libido, is massively lowered.
I just typed "hemorrhoids" + "erectile dysfunction" on google, and Bam, these posts really make sense.
Basically my hemorrhoids have never fully cleared for more than a day or two in the last 3-4 years, and during that time my erections have been 50-70% in strength only, and with severely impaired sensation.
Those rare 'bright days' I've now realised, are most likely caused be a lessening of hemorrhoidal swell.
I've only just found this thread, so can't report if I'm fully right (indeed, changed dopamine function owing to ritalin was my assumed culprit), but I'm HOPING that the hemorroids are linked to my reduced penile performance.
I don't believe it is nerve damage, as such, because on occasions where I have taken Ecstasy, the penile sensation has returned fully, and I have read that the excess of serotonin caused during Ecstasy use can cause serotonin to take over some of the neuro-transmission processes usually performed by dopamine. This return of sensation I experience would appear to eliminate actual nerve trauma.
Obviously if the nerve function of the penis is impaired by hemorrhoids, then not only is the blood flow less by virtue of less available blood in that region, but the reduced sensation is also likely to alter the cycle of arousal, which would itself result in less commands being made for the pumping of blood to the penis.
I believe the link seems very possible. How do I treat hemorrhoids, and at what point does it require surgery.
hi i'd had my piles banded 4 years ago after the op i had a terrible stretching pulling feeling for 3 month's from my scrotum all the way into my anal, then i started developing problems with numbness in my penis i could'nt even feel myself cum anymore.4 years later i'm still no further forward with getting this problem sorted,i sometimes get a good day when i have not been for a bowel movement for a few days,as soon i open my bowel i can feel the swelling of the piles pressing on on something whether its my prostate or a nerve down there,ii dont no,but i go numb again and when i urinate towards the end of me passing water i get a horrible back tracking feeling like the urines stuck.the op has destroyed my life, never had any problems before this banding, can anybody help thanks
Hi Guys,
I'm reading this forum because i'm losing sensitivity in my penis, i also have piles but erection is no issue, i started drinking cayanne pepper in a tea and its made my erections rock hard, i would suggest you give it a try. but i also have piles, maybe they affect the sensitivity because i used to have to pull out wait during sex because i would always start orgasiming too early. off to the doc i go
Mate that is great to hear. I am only 21 years old and have had erection problems for over two years. I have not had the confidence to talk to a doctor about it until recently either although I have suffered from hemorrhoids during this entire time period which I have not had fixed. I do remember once going through a cycle of using hemorrhoid cream, which did help everything including my erections a bit but I am now getting them removed by banding. I'm just hoping and praying this works and I can honestly say I believe internal hemhorroids can cause erectile dysfunction. I really hope I have results like you.
Hi Brandon I have some similar symptoms to you I'm afraid although I do not believe I have had the pain in the scrotum but definitely whilst urinating. I believe it is due to a really bad tear caused by hemorrhoids. I really hope that I do not have any nerve damage and the problem is just related to the hemorrhoids. We'll find out after two days when my hemorrhoids are banded but I know where you are coming from mate this is ruining my life. It turned out I just had to research myself if the two were connected because I could just feel it I'm hoping and praying this can be fixed I'm only 21 and this has gone on over two years I haven't even had the chance to enjoy a proper sex life and if this goes on too long I will be awkward with women, it's f*****g horrible this.
I just went for sergury yesterday, for my hemmorhoids banded and skin tags removed. I woke up with more feeling in my penis although all that had been done was my skin tags were removed (which are caused by hemmorhoids). This forced my hemmoroids back a bit and has made using the toilet easier although I can already feel new skin tags returning however because they are caused by hemmorhoids. The doctor did not band my hemmorhoids (even though this was the procedure I had signed up for) and instead said oh I noticed a fissure that is probaly what is causing all the hemmorhoids. I told him before the surgery that I had a fissure which was caused by hemmorhoids prolapsing as I used the toilet but oh now he didn't spot a fissure so I was wrong.
Now he has put me on cream to heal thee fissure and thus heal the hemmorhoids, I have already been on two courses of this cream (and you are only supposed to go on one if it doesn't work), this is the third one. I know this will not cure my hemorrhoids with absolute certainty. I was waiting 4 months to get these hemmorhoids banded, after already going through two cycles of cream, to get these hemorrhoids banded and now I have to go through another 3 month cycles of cream and no doubt a 4 month wait after that.
My NHS GP only put me forward for this because I threatend to take legal action. I am not putting up with this now and I am going to contact my solicitor and probably go private. After reading somebody elses report about complications after banding that is probably for the best because I don't know if I'd like to take that risk with incompotent NHS workers.
I have been going to the doctors for over two years now with these complaints about hemmorhoids and they keep messing me about. I have been told recently by my GP, after previously being told that Hemmorrhoids are harmless when I first got them, that the only physical cause of ED is diabetes.
The NHS is a complete disgrace.
I am having the same problems you experienced. Can you please give me more info...name of doctor. Thank you! James
