When I was in my early 20's I smoked it on occasion with friends for about 6 months. I only had it here and there when it was around. I never went for it like a fish hook high, recreational or habitual. Then it began to not agree with me in contrast, and compared to, the wide range of users. My olfactory senses can smell and detect its scent practically 'a mile away' in a down-wind, and if I do happen to try it again (which i did after 18 years), my lungs and entire upper body felt sick and filled with a "foam" feeling... followed by deep regurgitation.

I am pro and con about the plant... use vs misuse
...I am happily content with my natural rolled cigarettes and a craft beer lol.

(i.e. use vs misuse is more than subjective perspective... remember back to the refined medicinal use of cocaine and heroin and opiates in the hospital treatment era???? ...vs the overuse, addictive, and probable death of recreational use)

Our son is highly allergic to the smell of pot. He gets instant debilitating migraines. Even driving by a dispensary with the windows down and walking by someone that smells like it. It's affecting his job because of the smell on people. He has even had allergy shots, takes allergy pills and puts mint oil under his nose. He likes his job and is good at it. He doesn't want to lose it because sometimes he has to leave because of the migraines.

I think we are being sickened and poisoned by losers who don't mind smelling like dead skunk! Even the stupid weed smokers are coughing and getting sick and they still smoke this poison! I feel badly for children, infants, seniors and others who are innocent and stuck in homes or who have to go out in public where they are forced to breathe this poison from losers who don't have anything better to do with their lives, but get high! I wish they would arrest all of the skunk weed smokers, lock them in a cell and throw away the key! They are disgusting druggies who are hurting others for their own pleasure, and they don't care! The next time they all want to get high, they should just jump off of a building and let the rest of us breathe fresh air and live in peace.

Totally agree. Nearly lost control and vomited in the grocery store just from the reek emanating from a shopper. Instant migraine and very sick. Had to run out of the store.

If you have a friend who says something makes them sick you should respect them and listen to them. What if you had an allergy to a food they loved and they didn’t believe you and kept sneaking it into your meals?

I’m extremely sensitive to fumes, including and especially marijuana but also cigarettes, wildfire smoke, car fumes, cleaning solution fumes, fried garlic or hot pepper fumes and perfume. Especially with marijuana, if others some around me my face gets hot and I get dizzy and short of breath. My lungs start to inflame and I cough until I vomit. If I smoke, the same happens but I also become extremely cold and shake violently. If that’s not allergy, I don’t know what is. It gets worse with exposure.

My original post on here was over a year ago. The prevalence of recreational use on the street is becoming far more common, and depending on where you live and visit it may be more so. While we live in a nice, quiet urban neighborhood, we get a lot of foot traffic from restaurants and bars a couple streets over. Many will take a walk around the block to smoke and use our street to do so. Two weeks ago in the middle of Wednesday afternoon two young men did that while I worked in my yard. Not expecting it in my own yard I breathed it before I knew it was there. I nearly went into full respiratory arrest. I fell down clutching my chest trying to get into the house. A neighbor thought I was having a heart attack. It was over half an hour before I could breathe semi-normally again.

This is a plant, just like tobacco. Taking in plant based chemicals in such a way can have negative effects on people, even those without the reactions many of us have. I still support marijuana for medicinal purposes and if someone chooses to use it for recreation they shouldn't have to go to jail for it. When was the last time you saw someone hyped up on pot knock off a bank? It is simply my hope that people would use it privately and respect those who aren't able to tolerate it.

Totally, people underneath r and I have asthma, copd, never have smoked, and terrible sinus issues and severe migraines and my eyes, nose, throat burning scratching and become horse and causing me horrible head pressure & migraine and nausea, the smell is horrid and my vent is in ceiling and more I turn a/c down or tried putting fan on but then seemed to suck it thru all rooms, were a smoke free complex and they deny cig smoking which I’m allergic to but I think this is not just cig , I think the horrid smell I’m told by others is POT, air fresheners aggravate my asthma, can’t burn candles etc same reason, ready to call police to see if they smell illegal substance, don’t want trouble but I’m 64 yrs old and they can walk out on their patio if they r smoking anything and I wouldn’t care! CAN I BE ALLERGIC TO IT LIKE I AM CIG SMOKE? What can I do- help-

Ok. But can you be allergic to JUST the smoke. If you eat it instead of smoking it would you be fine? This is what someone I know claim. She said she can eat it but the smoke messes her up. It doesn’t make any sense to me...

I am also allergic to marijuana but not to cigarettes I was going to try marijuana once but as soon as someone lit up my esophagus start closing up and I couldn't breathe I'm highly allergic to it yet cigarettes I smoked a lot of it and had no reaction so yes she can be allergic to one and not the other I've known other people that were allergic to cigarettes but not marijuana

yes, its an allergic reaction. I get swelling, my ears clog, I get a migraine, nerve pain, weakness, breathing issues, itch, sore throat, horsiness, can't focus, get very agitated. I know everytime my son is smoking it to because this is what happens to me . its awful

I didn’t know I was allergic as well to MJ till it is everywhere now. I have even tried non THC products from hemp that caused the same reaction. I got an instant migraine and gut distress. Thinking my allergy was to the smoke, now I realize I am allergic even to anything from the hemp plant. I tried a Melatonin CBD blend night time pill and that was a nightmare for me and most reviews said they loved the product. So lesson here is pot isn’t the cure for everyone and for everything that some want to claim. For me it’s a flat out health risk. No matter how it’s packaged and made out to be the miracle listen to your own body. If you belch, and are sick and have hives and get migraines why would anyone want to keep trying it. Complete insanity

I get the same reaction when my neighbors smoke pot it’s awful I get like my head is fogged and my body feels poisoned. I don’t know what to do about them smoking if. It’s legal here I hate it cause it’s causing health problems.
