if you touch the smoke you are having contact with the oils. A heavy smoker will have a build up of the oils on every surface of their room carried by the smoke.

When I was very young I came into contact with quite a large cannabis crop when my family and I went camping one year, I broke out in hives and my face and throat swelled up so much I almost sufficated. Ever since then I haven't touched the plant. But I have also discovered that to this day I get the same reaction to most Nettle plants. Growing older I have developed something quite different than asthma. But I am allergic to most smokes. Even sitting around a campfire the smoke will irritate my eyes, my nose, even my head. I have such an acute sense of smell that when confronted with cigarette or marijuana smoke specifically I grow short of breath, get dizzy and confused due to the lack of oxygen not only flowing through my lungs but to my brain as well. I've done some studies to show that certain residual pollen or other chemicals involved in both plants or smokes, when myself confronting these smokes, my body starts going through something called hypoxia. All of this starts with a massive headache! Hypoxia after awhile turns into anoxia, a total lack of oxygen to the brain, killing off brain cells. Then Boom! Blackout. Memory loss. And feeling even worse than a hangover. Medically this is very rare for a trigger to be so specific, but yes, it is most possible for people to be allergic to cigarette AND marijuana smoke.

I also have sever reactions to marijuana.  If I touch it I break out in hive.  If I am around the smoke I almost immediately start throwing up,  have diarrhea, runny nose and watery eyes and get very dizzy with a loud buzzing in my ears.  I have never had vertigo and when this first happened I thought that it was vertigo.  The last time I attempted to smoke it sent me to the ER.  Of course I didn't make the connection until later and I was not about to tell the ER doc I had been smoking.  He said I had the flu and sent me home.  The symptoms only last a few hrs.  Long enough for my body to void the toxins.  So I was sure it was not the flu.   I started to think back and every time I had gotten sick like this it was when either smoking myself or being closed up with someone who was.  All this happen in my late teens early 20s.  Years later I was at a local bar with friends and went to the bathroom.  I had not been around anyone who was smoking pot and I hadn't touched the stuff since I made the connection.  Well in the restroom there were some young girls in the handicap stall and I realized they were smoking a joint.  I smelled it.  Thought I would just hurry up, do my business and the go out side to get some fresh air.  I figured it wouldn't be like it was before.  Was I wrong.  I was so sick and couldn't leave the bathroom for over an hour.  This was embarrassing for me.  Most people break out in a rash and have breathing problems, me, my body starts voiding everything it can.

I am mildly allergic to cigarette smoke but I am severely allergic to pot smoke. It causes such a strong reaction that my eyes burn, my throat swells and I have esophageal spasms as my body tried to shut out the smoke. Leave her alone.

Pot is my worst asthma trigger.

Inhaling the smoke or just being around it after it just just broken up causes reactions similar to animal allergies. VERY itchy eyes/nose, watery eyes/runny nose, constant sneezing until your head hurts. The only way to get around this is moderation. If I expose myself to weed too much in one day, the symptoms become more frequent and sensitive. IT SUCKS.

I am severely allergic to marijuana, either by contact, or second hand smoke. So severe, that I ended up in the ER twice with anaphylaxis. I now carry an emergency inhaler and an Epi-pen. There are multiple studies that confirm that someone can, in fact, be allergic to weed. After all, it IS a weed. I found out 30 years ago that I was allergic, so I just avoided it. Now I have someone staying in my house that refuses to smoke outside of the house because he feels that I am "making it up." The $1800 ER bill with a diagnosis of anaphylaxis is certainly not making it up!

I cannot even touch clothing that has come in contact with it. I have had to move out of my house until I can get the smoker to move on and get my house cleaned.

If someone wants to smoke, that is their choice. Just please don't call those of us that actually are allergic to it liars and try to prove it by smoking around us. Here is a link to a medical article and study regarding this: http://www.aaaai.org/ask-the-expert/reaction-cannabis.aspx

I have two daughters who smoke marijuana.  They are always telling me that it is not possible to be allergic to it.  However, every time I am around them when they smoke I have severe headaches and other allergy type symptoms.  I am allergic to just about all grasses, weeds and most trees, so it makes perfect sense to me.  I think people should be aware that anyone can be allergic to anything and should be cautious what they come in contact with.

Pot isn't just THC, a person could be allergic to another chemical compound naturally found in mariijuana. People can also be allergic to things like sweat, which oh, guess what, it's naturally ALWAYS in you. That's irrelevant to whether or not one can be allergic.
