Hello all. I just went to the doctor today. 3 weeks ago, after being a week late (I've never been late unless I was pregnant, not even since my tubal ligation in March 2005 after cesarian delivery of my 2nd child), I woke to severe cramping in my abdomen and lower back, heavy bleeding and clotting, and a sharp incessant pain like a knife in my right side and severe nausea. This lasted all day. By the next morning, the bleeding had stopped. But then I bled off and on for about 3 days. Exactly 3 weeks later (last Sunday), I spotted (bright red) for about an hour, then nothing until yesterday morning (Weds). I woke up to heavy bleeding, but no cramps (NOT normal for me). Today, had light bleeding, then it stopped. My normal cycles run for 5 days: heavy days 1-2, lighter the 3rd, not much if any at all the 4th, then a bit more on the 5th, then abrupt stop. I have been like this since I began my cycles at age 13 (I'm 35 now) and I've never just "spotted". I began my cycle normally after my tubal ligation/cesarian. My doctor cut and tied my tubes, but he told me that the effective rate was 91%. Since I got pregnant twice while religiously taking bc pills, he put me back on bc pills even after my tubal. I stopped taking the pills exactly 1 year ago, figuring I didn't need them. Plus, I have always hated the side effects and thought it was ridiculous to waste the money on them.
Today, I explained everything to my OB doctor. He performed a basic pap exam. Then, we discussed what is happening. I believe I miscarried, which he said was likely. He did say that it is possible that I am starting pre-menopause, but that I'm still fairly young. This still is a possibility, though I have no other symptoms (no hot flashes, etc.). He did say that it is possible that my fallopian tubes repaired themselves, especially since I was on the pill, I got pregnant twice on the pill, etc. My sister also had a tubal ligation and about 4 years later, she had an ectopic pregnancy that miscarried (was verified by her doctor and positive pregnancy test). He said that we can do a test to flush my tubes and see if they repaired themselves, but I would have to go to the hospital, get injections of dye into my uterus, etc. I decided to wait on that. He mentioned going back on bc pills, but I wanted to talk to my fiance. When I had my TL done, I was pressured by my ex who did not want any more children (the 2nd one was a surprise). I didn't want it, but thought I was being responsible. I later joked about it, saying I was done having babies, etc. when deep down, it always made me sad. As you probably guessed, we divorced. Since all of that, I met my dream man. We've been together for over a year, he's an amazing father to my 2 boys, plus his 2 children. We've talked about a baby together, though we don't want to go the surgical or invetro routes. We'll be married in June 2010 and have decided to let nature take it's course. Why am I writing all this? Well, most haven't posted back on their results for one. Yes, it IS possible to get pregnant after TL. Am I pregnant? I don't know yet. The doctor decided to hold off on a blood test but he told me to call him if I show more symptoms, or feel that I may be pregnant. I do have symptoms: very sore breasts (only get this when I've been pregnant), extremely tired, mood swings (really emotional at times), eating like a pig, weight gain (yea, it's cuz I'm always hungry), some dizziness and a "heavy" feeling in my lower abdomen. I feel like crud. Not much nausea, but I don't get that til about 8 weeks. I will wait a while to see if symptoms persist, then start with a home test and go from there. I hope this helps some of you. Not really an answer, but for the older ones, my doc said menopause generally happens around late 40's, but can happen younger. To you who are trying to get pregnant, best wishes. Part of me wants to be so bad, because then my wonderful fiance and I can experience the joy together and have a child of our own who will have siblings to love him or her. Another part of me thinks that it's crazy to want another child when we have 4 between us. Time will tell. If it's meant to be, it will happen. :-D

I just had mine done today. My husband and I paid 5200. that icnluded everything. Google Dr. Morice in Morgan city Louisiana. Its called Atacfalaya. Tats the chepest in the united states. Good luck
yes I would like to know the answer to this question. I had tubal done 2 years ago and had my last period in early feb. I hav ethe mean eating habit, going to the toilet regularly and all those pregnant symptoms. Got my GP to do a pregnancy test twice and they both came back negative. I AM GOING INSANE WHAT AM I MEANT TO DO HELP!!!!! :$ :$
I am also in a similar situation. I am nearly 40 and had a bilateral tubal banding 17 years ago next month. I have had all the normal pregnancy symptoms as with my two older children, who will be 18 and 19 respectively later this year. I have taken 2 HPTs (one evening and one with 1st morning urine). Both came back negative but my symptoms have only increased since then. I have had symptoms now for just over a month and have had no indication yet that this could be an ectopic pregnancy but have an OB appt scheduled for next week to do a blood test and get everything checked out.
Since this all began, I have scoured the medical white papers and clinical research data on what is known about pregnancy after sterilization. Believe it or not, there's a lot of information out there but not a lot of quantitative data. Apparently the age of 30 for sterilization is fairly significant. The younger than 30 that you are when you have your surgical sterilization, the more likely you are to become pregnant later. Also, the more time has elapsed since your sterilization, the more your chances increase.
In one white paper I read, it stated the body will do nearly anything to continue it's biological processes - the fallopian tube halves will try to reconnect themselves or the body will try to find an alternative route to make a reproductive channel, including helping form a transport tubule from existing scar tissue so that the eggs can pass from the ovaries.
There are documented cases of women becoming pregnant after complete hysterectomy/oopherectomy (removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes) surgery.
There are other conditions that can cause pregnancy-like symptoms, some serious. So, if you're in the same boat I am - take the chance your Dr will think you're crazy and just have them do a full physical.
While I never intended to have more kids, especially not with mine now grown and leaving the nest, my husband and I will try to deal as calmly as possible with whatever the results. To keep this real and not have you people think I'm just giving platitudes here, I am secretly praying for gastritis or a benign gastric tumor because those don't require diapers, feedings every 2 hours or all the disposal income you have in groceries for the next 20 years. %-)
Please update what you each find out. Since I am in medical research, it is rather interesting to me - except that it's happening to me.
Good luck everyone!

Like the rest of you, I am wondering if it is possible. So after a lot of research and asking many doctors/nurses I came across in the last few weeks the answer was 1 in 250 women after having a tubaligation become pregnant, and 1 in 600 men get a women pregnant after having a vasectamy. I hope this information was helpful.

HELLO I JUST WANTED TO FIND OUT ABOUT MY SITUATION CAUSE IT SEEMS IMPOSIBLE FOR ME TO GET PREGNANT. I AM 38, A MOTHER OF 5 KIDS 21-10. IN 2000 AFTER MY LAST CHILD I HAD A TUBAL LIGATION DONE. HERE IT IS MY SON JUST TURNED 10 AND IM HAVING PREGNACY SYMPTOMS, OR EARLY MENOPAUSE. LET ME BACK UP A FEW YEARS, IN '98 I HAD AN ECTOPIC PRGNACY WHICH CAUSED ME TO LOOSE MY RIGHT FALLOPIAN TUBE, SO THIS IS WHY I SAY IT HAS TO BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE PREGNANT. MY SYMPTOMS ARE CYCLE CHANGE PREVIOUS MONTH, NOW LATE, FATIGUE, CRAVING, INCREASE APPETITE, TENDER BREAST, NAUTIOUS WHEN SMELL CERTAIN FOODS. I KNOW ALL THIS SOUNDS CRAZY BUT COULD I BE PREGNANT OR JUST EARLY MENOPAUSE???
Hi! my name is Cielo i had a tubal ligation on 2008 i have 4 beautiful babies after my tubal ligation i had some problems, i started having ovary pain and chills i told my OBGYN and he performed a pap test on me and everything is normal but i really don't think so, something went wrong and they are not telling me, well i talk to my regular doctor he said to take contraceptive pills so my menstrual cycle gets normal, and also my ovary pain goes away, so on august 11 pf 2010, i supposed to get my period, i didn't today is October 24 2010 and i don't have my period so i did a home pregnancy test all negative but i have nausea, and this is killing me i will post what happen on Friday because, I'm getting a blood pregnancy and an ultra sound done Monday i will get results Friday. i wish i was but this is crazy why i have a tubal ligation and i get pregnant, insane wish me luck.
