I too have experienced the same exact symptoms when using any peppermint lip balm and other lip sticks in general. Relief comes quickly using a minute amount of potassium iodide and water on my lips twice a day.

Are you allergic to bee stings by any chance? I am an I tried Burts bees chapstick and my lips were swollen for a week. It might not necessarily be the bees wax in Burts bees but the propolis...which is found in a lot of their products ( bc you know the whole bee thing)

Glad I found this forum. I've been using Burt's Bees for years with no problems, in fact it was the only lip balm that worked for me. Two weeks ago, I woke up to itchy and tingling lips. Hypochondriac me thought it was the beginning of cold sores and so I immediately put Zovirax on them... even though I've never had before cold sores before. I waited and waited for the blisters to appear but they never came so I stopped using it. As the days went on, the skin around my lips started crusting yellow. and in the mornings my lips are peeling yellow gross stuff. They were swollen, oozing a clear fluid and hurt like hell. I couldn't see a GP as I've recently moved and have yet to register at a local surgery. Lmao I even slathered on some yogurt because I thought it was a yeast infection. While all this was happening, I intermittently used my Burts Bees lip balm with Vaseline.

Anyways, in the end, I decided to endure everything by just using Vaseline... and plain yogurt (yup never giving that up).

Two weeks later, my lips are all healed and back to normal. Yesterday, I opened up a new tube of Burts Bees peppermint lip balm. I mean, what could go wrong? I applied that to my lips and guess what, GUESS WHAT. Within seconds, we're talking mere seconds, my lips swelled and started itching like crazy. And now I'm back, to square one. All the symptoms I listed above? Yup. They're back. Needless to say, I'm not using Burt's Bees ever again.

I used aquafina lip moisturizer and it had peppermint in it. It made it worse. So I switched to Burt's beeswax. It has peppermint in it. I used it and my lips broke out into blisters. My lip is swollen. Looks like I've been punched in the mouth!

Try using chapstck less frequently during the week like only once or twice a week and use water to moisten your lips, i see girls use chapsticks WAY too much these days and it CAN make your lips start breaking out with things too if you use it every day, you need to give your lips a chance to naturally moisten, but if you ARE allergic to something in chapsticks  the use something more natural, but there is no need to use them every day ether, if you do use it every day. Does Burts Bee's have Beeswax in it too? i've noticed a trend in lipbalms lately with bee's wax in them and apparently A LOT of people are allergic to them even when they aren't actually allergic  to bee's lol, something to do with the lips being more sensitive

Thank you so much for sharing I had a similar situation

This happens to me too and I've come to the conclusion that it most definitely is the peppermint oil. I have the same reaction to Burts Bees but also to the Bigelow lip glosses from Bath and Body Works. Which is odd because I have no other allergic reactions to anything else peppermint besides lip products. Carmex has been my go-to for a while now!

I usually use carmex. I also find that it helps when I forget that I'm allergic to Burt's bees and the eos chapstick.

I am laughing like crazy as I sit here with burning bubble filled lips. Thank you for sharing your storis & lifting my spirits. Here's my story. I used a peppermint spf lip chap x 2 days. 2 days later I begin to feel like my lips had lace material placed over them. Woke up this am with tiny little bubble like bumps all over my upper lip. They also burn like heck. Of course, my mind is trying to figure out what is occurring. Being a nurse worse things came to mind first. However, I remembered using speriment chapstick months ago & having a milder similar reaction, but I thought this was a different brand & I needed spf so I tried the. Pepermint one. .. like a crazy foul. I can honestly say I will never wear a mint ANYTHING on my lips again. I'm sticking to Aquaphor and my regular lipsticks and glosses. I've applied Triamcinolone cream as one poster suggested. It felt like heaven going on. Hoping for quick relief.

I have never had allergic reactions to lip balms before. 3 nights ago, I bought Burt Bee's Lip Balm and started applying it. The following day my lips became drier than before and by the end of the night, my upper lip became swollen. I had to stop using it. Will someone stop the production and check the ingredients already!!!?!?!

I've been having the same problem over 10 years and have so far found Alba Unpetroleum brand and Stinkbug Naturals brand to work. I have heard that Vitamin E (or Tocopherol) can be a strong allergen, so I buy lip balms without it, but almost all brands have it. I do agree that single oils (jojoba) can be really good, or I'm even considering combining some with beeswax to make my own.

(tiny little bumps started to form all around my lips that were really itchy. I thought that maybe I was getting a cold sore even though I've never had them before and it didn't even look like a cold sore. ) Yep this is the exact problem i face for nearly a month till now. I tried lackme lipcare in a beauty store and then ended up with same kind of problem. I am not using any sort of lip care now as the usage of any other lip care too intensifies the problem. Please tell me how you got rid of those please. Am really fed up with this. I shifted to nivea but no use. Please help me ASAP.
