I just had my consultation with my obgyn today about getting a tubal ligation. I am 29 with 2 children, and married. I have made my mind up but the one thing that made me read comments online was because I had an iud for about 2 years and i gained so much weight and hair loss. I am just very nervous that I would have some of the same side effects that some of you have had. I'm torn with my decision now. I guess there are side effects to everything but this is permanent. Thanks

I wouldn't think that you are pregnant, if your tubes are tied and you have no had them reversed even if you did get pregnant it would be a tubal pregnancy and you would be forced to abort because it could be fatal to you.

I had a tubal ligation at 22 yrs of age. Not an easy task considering I had no children. The first Dr. I went to demanded a psych evaluation! I argued, you think I am crazy? Is it not less intelligent to get yourself into a situation for which you have no desire? Stop equating female with material!! Other than some irregular bleeding, I am still quite content with my decision. I take no hormones I have had no problem finding a relationship. I have even considered donating my eggs to less fortunate couples! It has been quite some time now... I have NO REGRETS!

Since I've had the procedure, I've gained 75 lbs, skipped a few periods a year, and I hemorrage 2 out of five times when I'm menstruating. Other than than, everything's fine.

I am 23 years old. I had my tubes tied end of June. I have 3 small kids so my husband and I decided we were done having them. since than my periods are a few days longer, heavier, I get headaches a week before I start, and my mood swings are starting to slow down. I just had my period two weeks ago and now I am spotting, for about a week now. It looks like the ending of a period. Anyone else have this problem?

I had a tubal in 10/07 and I have shorter but heavier periods, major mood swings , extremely irritable during PMS and I smell weird smells all the time. I have also gained 35 lbs. since the procedure. I do recommend it ( i had 4 miscarriages and 3 children) but do your research, find a support group or hot line to outweigh the pros and cons.

I have 3 children; ages 10, 3.5, and 19 mos. I had a bilateral tubal occlusion with filshie clips in April 2009, when my youngest was 6 weeks. Sept. of 2010 I had the clips removed due to the terrible pain they were causing. The doctor then burned my tubes in THREE places on each tube. (I was NOT aware he was going to do this). Getting sterilized was the bigges mistake I have ever made. I am 30 yrs old, and would love to have one more child. This will now NEVER happen....I do NOT recommend it.

I had my tubal one month ago, after I gave birth to my 3rd child via c section. To my knowledge, I haven't experienced any side effects. Of course, I am also recovering from a c section as well. One thing I have been experiencing is an increase in migraine headaches. I had pretty frequent migraines after my first child was born. I was on Yasmin birth control and they gradually decreased once I stopped the pill. I used no contraception following my 2nd pregnancy and only had the occasional migraine. This time around, I've already had 5 migraines (that is a high number to me, considering how debilitating these headaches are). It hasn't been quite as bad as with the birth control, but the frequent migraines inspired me to research a little bit more about the tubal ligation and possible side effects. I do not in any way regret the use of permanent contraception in my situation. My husband and I have had many conversations about where we are and where we want to be. We have 2 girls and 1 boy. I am 29 and he is 33. We are content. We are realistic enough to know that 3 is our emotional and financial limit. With that being said, I am starting to regret my decision. If only I had come across some of the sites prior to my tubal. My doctor never mentioned these possible side effects like increased migraines (which is why I wanted the tubal, due to my history with migraines and the pill), and heavy irregular periods. I would have tried an IUD first or made my husband get a vasectomy. I am hoping the migraines I am experiencing are due to regular post pregnancy hormonal fluctuations. I am breastfeeding right now and plan to for at least another 6 months. It will be a while before my regular menstrual cycle returns. I am hoping I am in the portion of happy tubal ligation people recipients. Fingers crossed. I really don't want to regret a decision as critical as this one.

I just got my tubal done on the 25th, 2mos after my son was born. I'm a bit sore, but I dont regret it. The way they described it to me was he cut my tubes, mashed the ends, carterized them, then tucked them. They said there is no way I can ever get this reversed. I'm 25yrs old, perfectly content with my decision. I've already recommended a couple of friends to do the same, we all had children fairly young, and after I got mine, they already started talking to their drs about getting theirs done.

I'm 27 and have 2 children. I had my TL done just over a year ago and regret it. I wasn't up to date on the side effects that come with it and it has really effected my life on a daily basis. I've been expirencing 2 weeks in advance to menstration, lower back pain, headaches, intense cramping, right side pain, soreness and pain during intercourse, neasuea, mood swings, anxiety, depression, heavier flow and irregular periods. I also went to my OB with concerns and basically told that nothing was wrong. If I knew now what I should of known then I deffenitley would of picked a diffrent form of birth control. (I was also married and happy with the size of our family) I wouldnt recommend this procedure to anyone. It's not worth your health and sanity!!
