I, too, have this constant sweet taste in my mouth.  I have been having this feeling for about three weeks now.

My job does not require much moving (I am a computer programmer).  However, I just went through a weight loss.  I had lost about 48 pounds by dieting and exercising.  I am about 5' 11".  I went from 225 pounds to 177 pounds.  At the time when I started to have this sweet taste in my mouth, I was actually running about 15 to 20 miles per week.  Since I am training for a half marathon, I am increasing my running to about 30 to 40 miles per week.  The sweet taste is still in my mouth.

What I drink is basically just water, which is how I found out this sweet taste in my mouth.  Prior to this sweet taste though, I actually dislike drinking/eating anything sweet because I did not like the after taste.  But now, I actually quite enjoy this sweet taste in my mouth.  Because it starts sweet, after having sweet stuff, I don't feel that sweet after taste any more.  By "sweet after taste", I am NOT talking about the sweetness caused by sugar substitutes; I am talking about the sweetness caused by regular sugar.  Like another person who has posted a response here, I, too, am worried when this sweet taste might go away.

I know this post is a little old, But I'm having this problem too. I noticed it after I hate a gum called quenchers. It was kind of sour but it made you salivate for like ten minutes while you were eating it. It's supposed to "quench your thirst". But now it's been three days and I've noticed a constant sweet taste like all of you. At first it was only when I drank things, and I just thought I was getting over syruped pop, tea, juice.. etc. But now it's ALL THE TIME!! It's starting to make me want to get sick. I can eat raw black pepper and it still taste sweet. The only other system I think i'm having is myheart will beat heavy (that's the best way to describe it...)every once in a while. It's really annoying. I was trying to just wait it outbut I can't take it anymore!! I have a dentist appointment coming up, so I hope theyhave answers, but I wish there was something I could do that would make it go away. If anyone has any suggestions PLEASE letme know!!

I've been looking around at the posts and can correlate sweet saliva with the consumption of aspartame. Every time I have a coke zero or splenda in my coffee I have sweet saliva for a day or after I wake up. It certainly doesn't feel like a normal occurrence. Consider switching back to normal foods/getting rid of soda like I am.

You all may have chronic criptic tonsillitis. Bacteria form smelly yellow balls of plaque in small pockets lining your throught. See a throught specialist! I am.

It could be due to a problem with your digestive tract. Try taking apple cider vinegar (with the Mother) with clean hot water (not tap) on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. In addition, miso soup could also be beneficial.

While the suggestions may be true, the best thing that stood out was the note about a Zinc deficiency ...I would suggest going to a naturopath to get your levels tested...and take zinc losenges in the mean time...and research the benefits/defiencies...there is a link to diabeties syptoms and such especially since diabetics are usually zinc deficient!

I was on prednisone for a long time and the yeast infection i got in my throat from it did the same thing to me for weeks after I stopped it did eventually go away tho.

Thank you!! I am on a very low carb diet. Lost 30lbs. Have just been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I'm 54. I also have this "saccriney" taste in mouth.

I am in end stage renal disease and my saliva has tasted disgustingly sweet for approx. 5 months. Naturally, I hate sugar. No metallic taste as is normal for ESRD. My nephrologist has no idea what could be causing this. I can literally now feel each time my salivary glands release saliva and it is maddening. No family history of diabetes and I eat almost no sugar. My blood is tested monthly and glucose livels are all normal. I'm ready to suck on cayenne pepper all day to get rid of this taste. I'm still drinking a lot of water (I'm not yet on dialysis but will be soon). Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

I picked up on where you said you had lost a lot of weight. I have lost 80 pounds in the past 21 months (also by eating less and exercising). Wonder if that has some bearing???

i have had this sweet taste problem for a few years on and off. I am the sort of peson who is allways on a diet and three years ago did a very low calorie diet over five months,that is when it started,my diet was bars and soups and meal replacement and some of the bars were very sweet.although i am not doing it now i do eat a lot of diet products,so asprttimine could be the problem and ketosis

I am beginning to believe that the sweet taste has to do with parasites/mercury connection.  I went to a homeopath and he gave me homeopathics for 3 types of worms and the day that I do the anti worm drops, I sometimes get the sweet taste at the back of my throat.

i have had this prob for 7 months now, have been to every specialist there is..never heard of it they said even nuro!! im going to try accupuncture nxt and then maybe hypnoi therapy..im fed up, life isnt the same any more, only thing that makes it go away is zanax!!

Thank you for researching this It really helped me alot, I am working on rebuilding my immune systems from being very ill. This sweet taste is the bodies way of telling me something is out of blance. Again your information was MOST helpful. cathy/from colorado

The sweet taste could also be attributed to a parasitic infection. Unfortunately allopathic doctors and the test they use are useless. Try visiting a homeopath who uses bio-resonance to confirm.
