I have a very similar issue. From what I have come across, it can be yeast. This type of yeast can be had by either male or female. Yeast infections crop up in places that are warm & moist, so the crease/crack can be a common place for it, as can an innie belly button (believe it or not!). Medical suggestions are to keep the area dry and apply an antifungal cream until it clears up and then for a day afterwards to be sure it doesn't quickly return. The great thing about this is that it can be ANY type of antifungal--even those for athlete's foot. They're all yeast-killers.

If you are wary about trying something and having it not work, consider going to a dollar store to purchase an antifungal cream to try. If it doesn't work for you, you're only out a dollar.

Best wishes to all for a speedy recovery!

Haelan tape from Typharm. Press small patch to cover cutinto anal cleft and keep on all day. Remove at night. Tape keeps cut from separating and steroid on tape helps to heal. I had problem for 18months and this solved it. Nothing else would work.

A few tips I found helpful are avoid toilet paper and use toilet wipes (sainsburys own are the bestbut avoid andrex as they agrivate it)

Dab dont wipe.

Also wash area using aqueouse cream as it cleans and moisturises the area.

I found that sweat from excersise agrivates the situation and as a professional dancer I have devised a work around.  Take a small length of cotton wool roll into a small suasage shape a place between buttock to absorb sweat. sounds silly but it works. The sweat causes a reaction with the skin which is the main cause and this helps break the cycle.

Timodine works well once the chronic condition improves.  fresh air works wonders so head for the nudist beach.  also salt water in bath.

Hope this helps as I know how painful this can be.  Dont rely on a doctor instead mentaly take responsibility for your own body and health.  Own it.

Good Luck.

I have the same problem for over twelve months, seen rectal surgeon and the examination was not a fistula, however needs to confirm this with MR scan and endoscopy. This looks like it may turn out to be a dermatology problem. I need this problem cured it has a full on problem and very sore and uncomfortable. All I can say is don't give up.

Hello, I too get the same trouble, not sure if this is just a coincident but it seems to be around the same time as a bout of thrush, i've read recently that thrush can tribute to crack in the skin in the genital area, i've just started to try inner health plus Candex to see if this will help.

Ive read recently that people prone to thrush generally will have a flare up of it just before a period and that thrush causes cracks in the skin (Genital area), I'm not implying that you have thrush but it could be something to look into

likely 1 of three things:

pilodinal cyst, or yeast infection or skin tear from pulling skin.

if really itchy always then yeast most likely. If stuff draining out tMen pilodinal cyst.

if not above then skin tear commonly caused by sitting in chair and moving upper body which can tear skin, or tossing and turning with too much force in bed.

If skin tear be careful not to stretch skin.  Sometimes can be fixed by wearing tight girdle to stop skin from pulling apart at butt crack. Wear to it heals.

I see no references here to a sacral or pilonidal dimple which up to 5% of the population has! a slight indentation between the buttocks, above the anus. In some cases it can become irritated or even infected but with hygiene and airing will normally cease giving problems. Interestingly it is a vestige from the womb, where we all start to develop a vestigial tail which later is reabsorbed but occasionally leaves the sacral dimple. Babies are usually checked in this part of the anatomy as sometimes other complications may be diagnosed from an open sacral dimple.

Not sure if this is the same, but I have had this problem for around 20 years but it was part of my psoriasis. I have tried all sorts of creams, cortisols, anti fungals etc and always wash with aqueuous cream but would have no joy. The skin would be red and then split down the middle, very sore and just not nice. Anyway I went to Mallorca this year and got my normal heat rash and got some cream from their chemist, and it seemed to work on the rash which was a treat as I had found nothing else worked on my heat rash, so I tried it on my sore butt and it has worked!!! I am flabergasted but super happy, never had it so good. The cream they gave me was called Creanolona and contains Fluocinolona (cortisol) and Neomicina (antibiotic). Its been three weeks now and starting to look like normal skin, keeping my fingers crossed that it will stay like this!!:-)

Are you sure it isn't caused by a pilonidal sinus? I have just had one removed after 6 years of being told I have sweat rash or a yeast enfection. Ask your partner to look for small holes, called pits.

Hi people,

Got this problem for the first time over a month ago. A vertical crack in the skin just at my tailbone. It got inflamed and was sore at night. Everytime I sat down the cracked skin would open again, and I was back in the cycle all over again.

Tried an antibiotic cream. Didn't work, in fact inflamed the area.

Tried an antifungal cream. Didn't work...again, the general area became inflamed.

Went to the doctor and he prescribed and anti fungal cream with cortisone....that didn't work either.

Was getting really frustrated with it. Then my sister suggested regular baths with salt added, and  to keep the area lubricated with some plain ole Vaseline.

Guess what? It WORKED. I took a salt bath every evening. Cleaned the area with a washcloth and some salt in the morning, even rubbed some salt into the area (gently..and it stung like hell). Then placed a little Vaseline on the area.

Did that for a week. Still using the Vaseline. Things greatly improved.

Hope this helps.

i have the same problem. you must see a doctor as soon as possible because if this is true then you could have a swollen coccyx which will stay like that permanently unless treated by a professional.
