that's a rare case guys. Your uvula is swollen, they stuck a tube down your throat and theres a lot of extra room in your throat, of course you'll sound like Kermit the frog. Don't worry though it sounds like a long time but your voice usually will have a clear maybe higher resonance in a few weeks. The only thing you guys need to worry about is bleeding and breathing because a lot of mucus will be trapped in there. just drink lots of fluids and keep your throat as clean as you can (gargle cold water after every meal). You'll be fine

Hi! I had my tonsils and adenoids out last week and I am the same I sound like I have been on helium from the balloon my Nanna and pop gave to me when they visited me in the hospital, well that's what my twin brother says.

I feel like that I can't open my mouth to yawn, sneeze and it is hard for me to talk.

When i was 10 i got my adenoids taken out (its similar to tonsils) and my voice got higher pitched. I am 17 now and my voice is still high pitched especially when i get excited about something. One day i was talking a lot and i got a headache from my own voice and i didn't talk for the rest of the day. And it made me really think about how it may bother other people. To this day i am very self conscious of my own voice. Not saying that it will happen to you maybe my voice stayed high pitched because i got my surgery when i was younger. But if your older and you already went through puberty including your voice getting deeper you should be fine!

I'm 26 now same thing happened to me, i hope this gets to you. STAY OFF THE PAIN MEDS! I still have problems from time to time but nothing like when I was 15. They would swell up so bad I couldn't breathe, and NO Dr knew what it was, negitive for everything everytime, NEVER CONTAGIOUS! Freaked out the ears nose throat DOCTOR LOL, HE LEFT THE ROOM, SERIOURSLY HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO, grossed him out, AND SCARED HIM, he couldn't understand how I was able to talk let alone breath... My only option was surgery, and hope for the best! I NEVER HAD THE SURGERY! Now we know that AT THAT FIRST SIGN OF A TICKLE IN YOUR THROAT TAKE AN ALAVERT! YES DESOLAVABLE CHEWABLE ALERGY MEDICINE and no problems! Insanity I known! I NEVER HAD ALLERGIES! POLIN, FOOD NOTHING! Its like magic for me! We used to call it puss throat! Now its not a problem! Seriously anyone reading this, it could help! Or at least can't hurt! Good Luck to you all.

I had my tonsils removed but didn't tell the doctor that I sing. He went chopping away and now I have a monotones voice that I have to live with, which formed into social anxiety from being ashamed of how it sounds to depression. Just a whole string of issues from getting this tonsillectomy done. You don't know how important your voice is in life until you have nothing to depend on. Living in a world of color when you have nothing to offer it but dark grey. Take care of your voice, ask questions before the surgery. Tell your physician that you do sing so that he or she can take that into consideration while carrying out the procedure. Good luck and God bless.

How is your son a year later? Has he gotten his voice back? If so, how long did it take? My son is out 3 weeks and it is still bad, if it does not get better I worry about his social life as well. He is 8 and kids can be so mean!

I had my tonsils taken out a few days ago and I started to worry about singing because I play a huge part in my school choir. I was reading comments and your made me feel so much better about this. I have a question for you though at what age did all of this occur?
