Hi JP, I was diagnosed with Lyme and have been treated. It’s a b***h of a condition to eradicate. I too have discomfort below my left rib cage that sometimes resonates to my back when I’ve sat for too long. Lie out on the bed a it goes away

I’ve too had this for years, like a burning pain, after sitting for a long time.

I believe you all may be experiencing chronic pancreatitis. Or perhaps acute pancreatitis or gallstone issues.
Worse after fatty foods, sugar, alcohol, sharp pain below left ribs, hurts when lying down...
Weight loss, diarrhea, etc
Good luck - chat with your doctor

I have been having symptoms similar to many of you and have just found the cause. I’ll list my symptoms specifically as they may not apply to all. My symptoms have included what started as discomfort under the left rib cage but turned to pain after months; I have felt what I believed to be a possible hernia because it has felt like it “popped out” upon bending over a few times; constipation & then times of diarrhea; trouble sleeping because of pain and the feeling of a balloon under the left ribs; gurgling sounds @ times; sometimes feeling hungry or full, depending on the day; I started to feel pretty terrible after eating as the pain increased & started developing nausea.
So here’s what we found out...
Initially I had an ultrasound which showed an extremely large colon in that portion of the stomach. We (my doctor & I) thought it was impacted feces but had no success getting things to move so I ended up going into the hospital under my doctors orders. They did a ct scan with contrast and also did an x Ray after, while still having the contrast in me. I dont think we would have really known what was going on without the X-ray with contrast.... it showed that my bowel was all wadded up in the splenic area. The medical term is Splenic Flexure Volvulus. Apparently it is extremely rare. So much so that’s it’s not even really looked for in your normal diagnostic testing. After months & months of reading about people with similar issues that had x rays & ct scans I ignored it thinking it was nothing until it got so painful I could no longer take it. Thankfully I had contrast in me when we did the x Ray & saw the twisted up bowel very, very clearly. I wonder if this may be more common than we realize as it seems many have these same kinds of symptoms.
There is also a condition called Splenic Flexure Syndrome where things aren’t moving properly at that section of the bowel and it causes air to get trapped and cause excess air in the colon. That could also be the “balloon” feeling. In this case, the bowel has just not elongated & twisted around itself.
I hope this is helpful for someone! This is painful & expensive trying to figure out what’s wrong. Maybe this can help in diagnosis.
