Am soooo glad there are others who have this! I am 56 and 2mths ago began experiencing excruciating lower back pain the morning after drinking alcohol. I have been a moderate drinker for years and never had anything like this. Off to the docs and yes the same as others on this discussion nothing found after all the tests. I have all but stopped drinking and pain gone. However, I will take alcohol on special occasions but the good times are now overshadowed by the awful pain I know will arrive in the morning. Anybody out there found reasons why,?????

No one is probably listening anymore but, your liver is on your right side upper. I am a 39 yr old alcoholic been hospitalized many time for various pains. Many gastritis (inflamed stomach lining). The pain is on your left side of back and front but, it is severe pain accompanied with vomiting. The lower part on the back left side is your pancreas. I haven't had that one but, a friend of mine was hospitalized for pancreatitis. Complained of pain on lower left backside. His got really bad though. Just take breaks. It sounds like you do so, good.

I have some personal experience with low back pain and alcohol intake. Drank about 3-4 beers a night for about 10 years, and 4-6 beers a night for the last three. My back trouble had become progressively worse. I stopped drinking about 4 months ago. Not a drop. I'm drinking half soda water, half lemonade just to have something to drink and o'doulls when I want a beer. My back pin has almost completely disappeared. My personal theory, and I do have a significant medical background, is that the alcohol acts as a muscle relaxant and central nervous depressant. The laxity of muscle tone in the core and lower back allows the foramina that is between the vertebral bodies to slightly impinge the nerves and aggravate the nerve roots causing muscle spasm. Just my theory. If you can, stop drinking and work on some core exercises. Easier said than done but I feel better than I have in years.

I am laying here in pain. The pain is in my lower back and in my lower abdomen/ovary area. I had one glass of wine 3 hours ago. I think it's gas but every time I relieve myself the pain just comes back. I'm currently drinking water. What's going on?

This is true and may be the issue for many. The slightest irregularities of the urinary tract can cause the pain. Dehydration, influx of urine causes swelling, even kidney stones are exaggerated by alcohol. And the pain pain can radiate to the abdomen. I've experienced this and my doc sent me for a scan of the kidneys- no obstructions or malfunction, so it seems the alcohol may cause backup of urine. It is relieved for me by urinating and taking more water. Outside of that, muscle spasms are very probable. But get an all clear from your health professionals.
Good luck

For sure, smoking pots makes you relax but also makes you want to stretch. Good for yoga and such.

I came to look at this thread because my spouse is having terrible pain after a day of binge drinking. He drinks frequently, but days of excess are regularly followed by worse back pain (middle), to the point where he can't eat or drink. It causes other problems, like psoriasis flare ups and vomitting, tremors.

I need to Google lymphoma after one of the posts ive Seen here. Alcohol is so dangerous. I used to binge drink too but stopped five years ago. Best to steer clear.

alcohol dehydrates the kidney as its trying to break down the alcohol and stops it taking in water. This in turn causes lower back pain. The best remedy is exercise a run, squats and then some yoga. A good sleep and your be fine. Try to keep off the spirits as this is particularly bad for the kidneys or if you do have spirits just stick to the one type.
