I wondering what everyone is doing when they are trashed? Marathon sex? Seems most are women, could doggy style while intoxicated be the culprit?

I can tell you that I stopped drinking in 2013 and the pain has ceased. It's only ever came back once and that was when I had a stomach upset. So its mostly related to alcohol in some form (at least for me). I also feel a lot better, having stopped. Weight it better, mental health had improved. My honest answer. Cut out the booze.

I know this post is a year old but I am having such bad back pain from drinking, I don't know what to do. The thing is, after I force myself to get on the treadmill for 20 mins, my pain lessens. Trying to get to 20 mins walking is another story since I have to stop multiple times due to extreme pain. But, I think exercise at a high level helps somehow. I drank heavy amounts of wine for 10 years straight, gave it up due to expense, switched to vodka. Now I have liver pain, feet swelling, and worse lower back pain. It got so bad I had to quit my job & go on disability. I stopped drinking for a few weeks but the pain in my back never quite went away so I went back to drinking. I had x rays & they said I had protruding disks. I never injured my back so what I'm thinking is dehydration caused those disks to become abnormal. The doctor said I was really dehydrated & even admitted me for IV fluid treatment. I'm laying here in terrible pain in my back & now my stomach is bloated like my ribs are being pushed out. I crave alcohol, been to rehab twice, a ton of AA meetings but it's never ending. I really want to stop but when I do stop for a couple weeks, I totally hate how boring my life is & I totally hate my super loud next door neighbors. I'm trapped. No bf, no family left that loves me. I'm scared that I've done too much damage to my body to reverse it. I'm only 42 but I feel & look 62. I totally feel the lower back pain is a direct result of heavy drinking & dehydration.

One of the reasons I cut down on my drinking was because it made lower back pain worse, and I concluded the following from my own personal experience: usually when we sleep, our bodies make tiny unconscious adjustments to our position in order to avoid discomfort or injury during sleep. After drinking a lot, I was much more likely to wake up in the same awkward position I fell asleep in - and would be excrutiating pain the moment I tried to get up. I realise such anecdotal evidence doesn't cut it in science circles...but doesn't this make perfect sense? Perhaps more study in this area needs to be done?

To the person above, and your medical proof for this is from where? Has you GP told you this as gospel?!? As they symptoms I had were not like anything you reported. Mine was trapped wind from the bubbles in the larger, sounds stupid, but it's the truth. That actually stopped me from drinking, best thing that ever happened to me.
