Hello to all

I really love my dog and he really can be adorable. Sometimes he just wants to cuddle and do nothing else. The bad news is, that is just 20 % of the time. Another 80% of the time he is very hard to handle. He is so full of energy that he runs all the time through the house and the yard. He is breaking things all the time and all my family members are really mad at him. I try to explain them that it is just a phase but I am afraid they will kick him out from the house.

I have heard that low protein diet can solve the aggression problems. Is this really true?

Hello.

I had problems with my corgi when I just bought him. He was “food aggressive”; I mean he wouldn’t let me come near his bowl. He never bit me, but it wasn’t very pleasant memory. I needed to show him who is the boss in house. That’s why I looked for a help from expert. She told me to feed him while she is in sitting position until I put his bowl in front of him, maintaining eye contact during all this time. And guess what, it worked. Now he is the happiest dog I know.

As he was just a puppy, she hasn’t said anything about low-protein food. Maybe it works for older dogs.

I am having exactly the same problem with my Boo in the past three days. I mean, when you see him, you would tell that there is nothing so adorable like this one, but it is not so true. Today, he grabbed the bowl and went in some corner to eat his lunch. I was really surprised, so I called the vet. He told me that those are some signs of aggression, and he told me that I should find the way to show him who is the boss. He did it once again, so I was a little bit mad. He saw it and later, he was pretty fine. I think that it is my mistake because I was letting him do anything.

It is very uncomfortable when your dog starts to behave like this, it is unpleasant for everyone. Low protein diet food is ok, because they develop diets that are available and formulated with one of the behavior modulated features. So, protein levels in all of these diet programs must be low, and some are supplemented as well, which means that they have some ingredients that can learn your dog to be calm. Maybe it seems funny for you, but this is totally true. These diet programs are nutritional and feeding your dog on this way won’t harm your dog. You will learn him how to behave.

Hey. My best friend’s dog is literally crazy, so I am really interested to be a part of this discussion. I really didn’t know that food can help your dog to behave well. One day I went to see her and he was so aggressive, he was biting furniture, he was really like crazy. She told me that she don’t know what to do with him, she was taking him to the vet and he told him that her dog is jealous. So, now I can see that this can be a reason. I will tell this information for her. Thank you.

Hello to all participants

This is a revolutionary way of treating aggression in dogs. If I am right, scientists have found this method just a few years ago. As I read in some magazine the main idea behind this theory is that by lowering the protein intake some neurotransmitters in the brain will become calmer and as a result of that process your dog’s aggression will be reduced. I apologize to all scientist and doctors who will read this topic because of my extremely simplified explanation of very complex metabolic processes.

Anyway, everyone should try this because it is really simple and doesn't require any effort.

I am not really a fan of this low protein concept. In my opinion, proteins are really important for all the animals, including humans. They regulate body mass, they are providing the energy and they are producing muscles. This concept considers making our dog’s protein intake lower just to regulate aggressive behavior. Well, that is ridiculous if you ask me. In addition, anyone who has a dog and doesn’t know how to regulate his or her behavior shouldn’t have a dog in the first place.

So, pet owners don’t lower your dog’s protein intake just because your dog is a little too active.

Well I don’t know if it’s healthy. I agree with Mima that proteins are probably very important for the dog’s body mass, for the muscles and for the overall health. But if you are asking me does it work-it sure works! My neighbors (we live in the same house, different floors) had two dogs. Their first dog was such a sweet dog, so when they asked if they could bring another dog to our yard we said no problem. But when he came, we seriously started considering moving out.

As soon as they put him on low protein diet, he became a different dog. He was much calmer.
