Electric shock feeling thru whole body

I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

I too suffer from these dreadful shocks. I only seem to get them at night thought and they have gotten worse ever since I started the migraine medication topamax. I wish I had never started them. It's made my anxiety much worse and these shock feelings make me worry I'll have some kind of seizure. I found this link that describes the "shock feeling" :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lhermitte%27s_sign

I don't do anything about them except wait for them to end. They have already robbed me of my ability to work as a training instructor, something I loved dearly, so I am trying to not let them rob me of the rest of my life. Although, I have gone to doctor after doctor and they do brain and neurological exams and tell me it could be MS or a brain injury or a nerve disorder or this or that or whatever. I am frustrated. I don't leave the house except for doctors and food now because it has gotten so bad.

Yes, I get them every night when i lie down to sleep - makes sleeping a chore! They don't seem to have any rhyme or reason for me - no pattern - sometimes worse than others and I'm not taking any medications. It could be the vertibrae as described in the link you sent. Thanks for that link. I'll take it to my doc and see what she has to say about it. BTY, I have been taking huge amounts of B12 (and other B vitamins) which helped with mood swings, but hasn't helped with the electric shocks.

Oh, geeez, I am so sorry that they have gone on this far - I hoped they would just stop at some point - my body might just get tired of the whole thing! Well, I, too am a bit reticent about going to the neurologist - all the tests to tell me nothing. That's usually what happens with docs, these days. I don't want drugs, I want to understand the cause, so I can really do something about it. Did you see above from Guest with a link to Lhermitee's Sign? It sounds like it might be a good place to start researching.....
Absolutley! This is a med that needs to be tapered down to stop and should be done slowly and for at least several weeks. Just keep cutting down the amount you take every-other day and eventually be done with them. I've had the WORST case of "shocks" over this stuff - serotonin levels are NOT to be messed with, as I've learned the hard way. "Zapping" isn't fun and it ruins your quality of life. Good luck and God bless! :)
Yes. This is when I started having my sensations. I have missed a few days of my Lexapro and now I am getting them pretty bad. I think it is the meds for me.. I just took my dose so I will see in a few days if they clear up.

My goodness, I look up this electric shock feeling whilst trying to fall asleep, & here we are. All i can say is thank goodness. I thought i was going mad. Im opn heavy Morphine long term & this has just started, again all i can say is im not a nut. I shall watch this site. & Yet i dont understand why any doc hasnt got a single answer ?? Odd,
After reading i have noted one thing in common , a few others are on metadone , or morphine or have been. there is a start perhaps. & also Noted a comment, not on enough of your meds or skipping some.
I will fillow this close Thanks Tas
Have any of you even remotely thought oustside of the square. I see so many remedies here all of them are some kind of drug. Dont you realise what is actually going on in your body. Everyone has a current /volatage going through their body at all times this is called being alive , granted it is minimal but it is what the body uses to regulate and communicate etc.
What you are experiencing is the sudden release of voltage in areas that have an abundant storage of voltage at a time. Just as an arc of electricity will jump from one side to the other if the circuit gets close enough or if the voltage is high enough the arc will happen . Thse series f "zaps" that you feel is the residue of current that jumps neuro corticle pathways. THe issue is that once a new "short circuit" happens it seems to "prefer" using the same route that is why it starts occurring more often. What you need to do in order to reduce this effect is to reduce the acid balance in your body. Another requirement is bulding up cellular resiliency by increasing oxigen in the bloodstream and ensuring a better flow. It is neccesary to reduce the charges in your energy centres so that they are approximately of equal voltage throughout the body. Hence the practice of yoga etc. But to be fair many people are just not built for yoga etc so some kind of limphatic excersize even if it is just a lymphatic massage to move the fluid thtough the body would stimulate the eveing out of the charges. as the nerves build up their resiliency again by ensuring that the voltage charge througout the energy centres are evenly distributed for a length of time the "frayed" areas repair themselves. And Voila you're back in business. During this period of repair it is important as always to follow a diet high in water content ( ie salads and selected fruits) and not to over stress because that thends to cause the irregular build up that sit in the cell tissue and the voltage is released all over again. If you cant move arount alot starting something like vibratrain for 4 minutes a day will initially feel like the electric charges are worsened but it will not last. As you start feeling it working and no charges happen inclrease the duration on the vibratrainer up to 10 minutes er day. Always ensure that you have enough water in the form of water not coke or coffe or tea but actual water , to irrigate the bloodstream and get rid of too much positive charge in the body. Walking without shoes on in an area whis is rich in soil also allows you to reduce the charge in your body as it naturally goes to ground.
I really hope this helps some of you. Deep breathing squaring your shoulders lifting up your arms above your head and looling up tilting your head back for 3 - 5 seconds and then looking forward for a minute or 2 , and alternating between the two periodically while you walk in the soil helps you get back in control as the enegry centres self regulate. It is important to keep your shoulders squared and your chest out so the flow of energy can better ground. By tilting your head back while looking up it regulates the current in the brain with the current in the solar plexus area as your chest will naturally go outward and our breath will be deeper.
Just try this for 14 days and then see how you feel.
I had this happen a few days ago, thought I had a heart attack+Shock treatmeant....I was using coke and meth for around 5 days strait, no sleep...... I haven't ever tried methadone tho....seems linked to sleep deprivation, or the body just deprived of a drug after extended use. Anyway , this guys taking a few days off at least....scary shit
This is all very good advice and yes, I have considered that there is just an over-sensitivity in my body. Often I feel the earth wobble!
Yes the voltage feels like electrical stimulation turned on very, very high, or an huge pulse of adrenaline. Both very uncomfortable.
I, personally am not on any drugs except wine in the evenings. I do yoga twice a week, walk my dog in the woods (albeit not barefoot) twice a day and have completed a cleansing recently. The shocks continue, with the heartbeat increase and hot flashes, too. It's a nightmare. They only happen when I lay down to sleep, or while sleeping. The hot flashes happen just after taking two bites of any food. Again, I'm not on any drugs, so this is not an adverse reaction to those.
I have tried accupuncture many times in life - perhaps I'll try it again to even out impulses, but I agree that the neuropathways must be affected for this to happen.
Thanks for your suggestions.
is this some sort of joke as the same thing is happening to me and it is making me panic, i am afraid someone is going to think that I have lost the plot
