My periods have always been heavy, but since I turned 41, they had started getting worse. They were always 6-7 days long, and it was normal to use a 40 pack of superplus tampax (plus a half box of regulars for the light days) while I was on my cycle. About four months ago, the periods started getting heavier each month, and I started bleeding whenever I had intercourse (my boyfriend was less than thrilled). My last "normal period" I had soaked through 3 superplus tampons in less than 15 minutes (really screwed up my day and my clothes) so I talked to my doctor. He recommended the novasure ablation. I had the ablation done on Tuesday. So far I am loving it. I had started my period on Monday (great timing). I had read all the posts that talk about how bad it was so I was kind of nervous, but it was really less painful than my cramps from my period were. The shots to numb and dialate the cervix hurt a bit, but once they had a chance to set in, it was just minor discomfort. Since the procedure, I have only spotted, no bleeding, mostly just the thin watery discharge that is mentioned on this site. It isn't even constant, so I have been able to sleep without pads (I HATE PADS). I just use them when I am upright. I was doing great the day after it was done but still took it easy that day, and since then (5 days later) I have been running like a mad woman. It was great not to have my period this month, and I'm hoping that it will stop them forever. Doc said we will have to wait about 4 months for everything to become regular, so will know for sure by then. I really recommend it to any woman who has suffered every month from low iron levels, excessive bleeding, trying to get the stains out of clothes/bedding due to accidents and the cramping that comes with heavy periods. It took less than an hour for the set up and the procedure, and it was well worth it.

It was very successful and I have had zero bleeding since! (Other than the 4-6 weeks of post-op healing) I am SO happy I had this done. I still get occasional cramps and can still feel the monthly ovulation discomfort and monthly hormone fluctuations, but it's okay. I recommend subscribing to the Daily Hormone Horoscope at myhormonology.com It helps!

Hi everyone.

I had the Novasure proceedure completed about 1 year ago. I was first sent for a biopsy and an ultrasound. The biopsy hurt a little but I did not expect it to hurt ...so that was a shocker. After I was given the green light, I set up my Novasure appointment. It was in the Dr. office and I was only given a valium and a pain pill. I have to say being awake...not a great idea looking back if you can't tolerate pain well. It was about 5 minutes of severe pain. Yes it hurt, do I remember it?... I guess it's like having a kid...hurts but worth it. I had pain for about a month and low cramping but it resolved.

I have not had a period since and no cramps. I did put on about 10 lbs since the proceedure but I have to tell ya, it is worth not having the severe cramping and heavy bleeding. I developed a sweet tooth and have not been exercising enough which I am sure is what is causing the weight gain (not the proceedure).

It was worth it in my opinion.

FYI- woke up with sore breasts this morning and been very tired latley.... my husband is fixed and it woud be very very doubtful I am pregnant. Still odd that my breasts are so sore.

I had the Novasure done in April of '08 due to heavy bleading every month. I haven't had any trouble since and only have had to wear a panty liner for 1- 2 days a month. ( I wouldn't really even consider it a period at all!!) The procedure itself was easy and quick. I came home and took some Tylenol for some cramping and by evening I was fine and back to normal the following day. Although I do have a high pain tolerance. (2 baby deliveries w/ no drugs) I still experience monthly hormonal symptoms as if you were going to get a period but don't. For some reason my breasts swell for about a week and you have those PMS food cravings and a little more bloating, but no cramps or bleeding, just a tiny bit of discharge. HOORAY!!!!

I recently found out I'm severly anemic...after weeks of tests, exams and blood work, I was told I have Adenomyosis (thickening of the uterus). I have heavy peiods but didn't realize they were heavier then normal periods should be...nothing to compare it too I guess? I'm scheduled to have a D&C, hyterscopy and Novasure ablation next week. Does anyone know anything about Adenomyosis or Hyperplacia? I can't find any information on Novasure as a treatment for Adenomyosis.

I just had a hysterectomy, d&c and nova sure ablation procedure two days ago and feel wonderful! I had the slightest bleeding and discharge the day of and absolutely none the following day or today. My doc gave me 800mg Motrin and Percocets, and only had to take one of each. I didn't get the incredibly horrid cramps afterwords, just some slight discomfort. My periods were progressively worse over the past 8-9 months, and I would bleed every two weeks like clock work, and a week of that was like someone gutted me. I literally "gave birth" to blood clots the size of baseballs. A trans vaginal ultrasound showed polyps, so they were removed. I'm a mother of 2, and I'm 29 years old. My tubes were already tied after my son was born, 4 years ago. I think this was wonderful for me, and I feel GREAT! I hope all goes well with everyone having this procedure.

I've been a heavy bleeder all my life, never thought is was fair. My sister and Mother both had the normal 3 to 5 day light periods. I started taking B/C to help control it. Even though I still had a 7 day period. Didn't really work. I just had twins 6 months ago, don't know if that is what's causing this or not. But after my 6 weeks post baby check up. I never started my period like the doc's said I would. I went 8 wks with nothing, then on July 12 all heck broke loose. I've been bleeding since then and its been very heavy. worst then usual. Did the biopsy and ultrasound. I think the Doc was looking for cancer. It came back ok. So I'm scheduled to have a D & C and the Nova ablation tomorrow. I'm really nervous. I'm hoping it works. Would love for it to stop the bleeding altogether, but know it won't. Not my luck. I'm just hoping I'm not in the percentage that has no effect on. Wish me luck.

First I should say I have Fibromyalgia the nurse took me back gave me a pill for nausea and two Valiums...also they gave me something through a iv in my hand...after waiting for 45 Min's in a "resting room" soft music, comfy chairs.. the Rn came to take me into the procedure room...I informed her at the time that none of the medication they had given me worked...so when I was on the table the RN gave me another dose of medication in my hand...I told her after a few minutes that nothing was working they proceeded to go ahead with the NovaSure procedure...I had to endure 90 second of pure raw pain...now 5 days later I still have nausea and pain on my right ovary where a ultra sound showed that I have a cyst..(it's still there)..plus I have diarrhea...I feel so traumatized by the whole procedure...the fact that this GYN and her RN went ahead with this knowing that none of the medications for pain worked makes me feel ill...and very upset. After the procedure was done I was told by a lady waiting after me to have the Novasure procedure done that I could have been taken to the hospital and been completely put under...no I didn't even get a twilight sleep...no gas...no iv just a iv needle in my hand it wasn't even hooked up to anything...I feel like I was raped...if you think that's a strong word...think of having to lie there you cant get up your stuck while someone hurts you...I have to go back for a two week check up and I don't want to ever see those people again...plus now I have this pain...I'm going to see my regular doctor and ask her to check me out...I'm just to afraid to ever go back in case they hurt me like that again.

Had novasure June 2008 and not a period yet; would highly recommend but with a doctor than has perfected the technique. Uterus's are all different sizes and tilts so they need to have encountered all sorts of circumstances. Check with your doctor on their experience with Novasure (mine had performed almost 300) and also their success rate. A friend had the procedure prior to mine with another doctor and it did absolutely nothing for her. She said a comment was made that it might be b/c she was in her period during the procedure and the equipment didn't create the suction. I started my period the day before my procedure also and haven't had one drop of bleeding since I walked out of the office. Had the usual extremely pale watery discharge for a few weeks afterwards but once it was gone---there has been nothing since.
Also had a 2 good sized polyps in my uterus that were removed at the same time just prior to the Novasure. Had been a heavy bleeder with long periods.

I'm 46 yrs old and I must say that some of the posting here almost made me cancel. I had my procedure done yesterday and so far, so good. Back to work the next day. I had a wonderful experience in the hospital and I have to say that I would only have this type of procedure done in the hospital. My IV hurt worse then the entire procedure. Little cramping only . If anyone is thinking about having this procedure, just make sure you do your homework and ask your physician silly little questions like, how many times have you performed this procedure and exactly what is going to happen. Check out the Novasure procedure site. http://www.novasure.com/irregular-period/novasure-endometrial-ablation.cfm. Thumbs up for me so far.

I had almost constant bleeding all month long, every month and my doctor suggested a thermal ablasion. After ungoing all the tests which came back normal, the procedure was done. two days following the procedure I couldn't eat or drink, was nauseous, had pain on my right side (ovary) and started running a low grade fever. After numerous trip to and from the doctors office and more test run......they found an 8cm mass on my right ovary. Wasn't there before!!! Another doctor was brought in and he determined that I would now require a hysterectomy. They now knew that I was full of infection and as a result..........I woke up to being told they couldn't save either ovary. Everything had been removed.

They had perferated my uterus while doing the ablasion.

If I had it to do over again.............I'd run the other way....very fast!!!!!!!!!!! am now required to take hormones....the patch which leaves red small lumps where it is attached to my skin. I do however like not having a period at all now. All told I lost 20 lbs in two weeks and have yet to gain much more back then 7 lbs. The ablasion was July 18 and my hystorectomy on July 31 after several days of interveinous rounds of three different antibiotics before surgery. I wasn't released from the hospital until August 5.

I went into my doctor today and talked to her about my heavy periods and CRAZY moods during my menstral cycle. I have been a heavy bleeder for as long as I can remember, but my mood swings have increased over the last couple of years. She seems to think that maybe my mood swings would decrease a bit with the Nova procedure. I have read a lot of these posts and see a lot of info about the bleeding (or lack of) but no one mentions the other pms symptoms.

Can ANYONE attest to this? Like I said, I have dealt with the heaviness of my period for so long that I am willing to accept that part, but I just can't handle the mood swings. I cry at the drop of a hat. And lord help us if my fiance' looks at me crosseyed! The yelling is on! It is ridiculous. It is affecting my life! My poor kids, fiance'. How they have not just completely ran away I wil never know!

Any input would be great. I am like the other readers, I am seeing the negative posts and just trying to remember that every procedure done to anyone has side effects and things that can go wrong.

Thanks...

I was supposed to have the ablation yesterday. I also had a cyst removed and a tubal ligation. When they tried to perform the ablation they perforated the uterine wall. I am now in severe pain and schedule for a hysterctomy in a few weeks. I am only 31! This does not happen very often but it can happen. I wish I would have done more research first. I was only told that it might not work and I would still have a period not that they could poke a hole in my uterus. :-(
