I had a mammogram yesterday and my right breast is killing me and feels like it is on fire. I hadn't had one in 6 1/2 years because I intuitively know crushing sensitive tissue cannot be good. I tried and tried to just get an ultrasound and they would not do it! Great to see women have choices. I too believe an ultrasound or a thermoscan would be much better. More money, I guess, in performing the mammo! I also wonder if it spread any cancerous cysts I may have possibly had! The healthcare system is soooo distressing!
Good comment. I just went through this today and it hurt so very bad. Now they want to do a biopsy.
I went through the second mammogram today. It was so painful I could not believe it. I really believe they will cause cancer. It's just not natural to do that to a woman's breast. Now, doctor wants me to have the biopsy. I don't know.
That hapoened to me yesterday. I told them I felt burning and that it felt like my skin was on fire when they finally released the paddles because of course he didn't get the samples correct on his first try. I couldn't see the lower area until i looked in the mirror at home. It was a complete nightmare. 3 solid hours.
So many errors in what you say - "I interpreted" ... on what basis, on the fact that squeezing caused pain? Come on. On that basis, every pinch is fatal ... And especially about dying "anyway" with treatment. Early detection saves many lives. Women don't die with appropriate and early treatment. I know women who had treatment decades ago - still living. I know one who decided that wheat grass tea, etc. was the way to go. She's no longer with us. The pain of mammography isn't half as bad as the pain of breast cancer.
I too have had the experience of torn skin under my breasts as a result of mammagrams. As a matter of fact, I would call the tearing as lacerations between 3 and 4 inches in length under both breasts. At 67 years of age, and after many, many yearly mammograms, the first lacerations occurred 3 years ago. After the first experience I even changed to a different imaging center and had the same experience only not quite as bad. Had a mammogram this past Monday and walked out with the lacerations again. While I have a pretty high threshhold of pain, I have to admit that this one was the worst i've experienced. Like you, I will continue to use the antibiotic until the tears heal. It takes longer to heal a wound in the folds of skin. The technician I had this time was kind and courteous and did not rush through the test. I know she was just doing her job and did not intend to cause the pain.
I just had a mammogram done on Monday and after going home I staring having Slight pain on both sides under breasts in ribs it is so bad I ended up in er with deluded and it's not even helping the pain it's hurts so bad it hurts to breathe or move it's on my right side and horrible they said just a typical chest pain but before mammogram I was fine. This I do believe is from this mammogram because it even causes chest tightness and nausea for me.
I am 55 years old and post menopausal for about 7 years now. At the advice of my doctor I began having mammograms at 50, every 2 years is the norm. So I had my first one in 2012, all was good. Second one in 2014, all was fine. Just went for my third 2 weeks ago on a Thusday (now 2016) - a little unpleasant, but no pain after. The next day I got a call to go back for a second diagnostic mammo, using spot compression with that small round plastic paddle as well. I honestly believe that the technician adjusted the clamp way too tight. Bee 4 days now and I feel so sore. It's a weird kind of feeling. Almost like a bruise under the skin. There is no bruise on the skin that I can see. just a little mark about the size of a pea that may be a bruise. I think I feel a lumpy mass on the side but not sure if this is my imagination. Also around the nipple hurts too. Kinda like a numb burning sensation. Before this second one I had absolutely no soreness in my breast at all....makes me wonder. BTW, I did receive another call yesterday and now they want to do an ultrasound. Getting this done in 2 days from now. Thanks, just needed to vent and see if anyone else is or had a similar experience...
Forgot t mention that my rib under my right breast feels tender as well
Still no answer on this question. I had a mamogram over a month ago. I am still in so much pain it wakes me from my sleep several times each night. Why is it so hard for women to get real answers? I am so sick of being told it's all in my head
What happened to you just happened to me, almost exactly everything you say. How are you doing now?
Me neither and it's really making me angry. They called me back for a second one after the
first one a week earlier. I was concerned about the radiation and they just kept saying it's
fine it is a small amount. Well now I'm in pain on the right breast. They want me back again
in six months time.

Good idea. I am sick in bed for day three after my first mammogram...why??? Pain unlike any I have ever had. Afraid that if bad cells are squeezed, they spread!!! Maybe turnout body. Never again!!!!!!
Totally agree about the men should put their penises in mammogram. Bet they wouldn't go a second time!!!!
Just wanted to weigh in on the mammogram controversy. I have had yearly ( mostly) mammograms since I was 40. There have been a few times that it was so painful that I never wanted to go back, but as a nurse, I know the purpose is to find breast cancer early. i am now 62 and at my last mammogram, they found microcalcifications. I went back for more pictures ( has happened before) but this time they wanted to do a biopsy. To get to the point, I was diagnosed with breast cancer- probably the thing I feared most. I also had atypical cells in both breasts- in all I was at highest risk for cancer in the other breast as well, so I needed all three abnormal sites removed.
My sister died of ovarian cancer after it was found after it had already spread.
The thought of future abnormal mammograms and more biopsies (certain once diagnosed with cancer) and the stress and anxiety were unthinkable. I chose to have a double mastectomy with reconstruction.
I was very fortunate- the cancer was found early before it had spread-DCIS, and no other areas were found. I did not need chemotherapy or radiation treatments. I am cancer free and have less than 5% risk of return as there is no breast tissue left.
This was not an easy decision, but for me it was the correct one.
I had tissue expanders inserted at the same time as my mastectomy surgery, and gradually had saline added to stretch my tissues to give me breast mounds. I just had my expanders removed and replaced with permanent implants and will return to work next week. This has been a whirlwind and a life changing experience, but life is the key word. I can now get on with my life.
