it seems to be happening all over the world. I am from the middle east, and I am facing the exact problem. This is my fourth pregnancy, and i had the spitting problem in my 3rd and and current pregnancy. Keeping my mind busy in something wound help alot of times. like going out with friend, socializing, knitting. I notice also that sweets and salty foods would irritate the problem so you may think to stay away from such foods. Good luck

I am 12 weeks pregnant and also have excess saliva. Every day it causes me to be sick on numerous occassions due to the saliva I have swallowed. I did not have this with my first child, but do not know how much more I can take of it. The only thing i have found that helps slightly is drinking water. This really is an awful problem which unless you have been through it no one seems to understand.

You are all going to hate me, but this is my 4th pregnancy and i have had the excess saliva with all of them. The only way to help the problem at ALL is to SWALLOW THE SPIT. This will actually make you sooooooooooo sick to start with, because of the psychological aspect of it; however, your body produces saliva in order to LOWER the acid level in your stomach. Saliva counteracts the higher acid levels in your tummy. So the more you spit it out, the more your body produces because you are stopping your body from solving its own problem. You will still have LOTS of saliva, and you may burp more once you start swallowing it, I know I do! But it will help soothe your tummy, and you won't make the buckets and buckets extra that you are making right now, because your stomach acidity will go down.

Its hard, I know it...suck on candy to help you swallow it if you must to start with- but wean yourself off the candy fast...once you stop spitting the saliva out.... because candy can actually increase saliva production.

DO NOT PUT COFFEE under your tongue...ladies caffiene and growing babies do NOT mix.

The only other thing I know of that helps is brushing your teeth. Any food particles in your mouth are going to cause more saliva to be produced-- so just put the tiniest scrape of toothpaste on your toothbrush and brush like 5 times a day!

I spit for 6 months with my first pregnancy and when I got pregnant with my 2, 3, and 4th I said- NO WAY I am not doing this again- and the excess saliva got better after about 2-3 months (because I wasn't spitting it out) and spitting becomes a habit.

I completely understand what all of you are going through. With all four of my lovely daughters I spat, but my last pregnancy I tried benadryl (Children's dye free), and it worked great as far as drying me up for the night and helping me to have a great, restful night's sleep. I got the ok from my OB, and it worked great. Only bad part is that you cannot take it during the day because it makes you sleepy, but what a wonderful night time relief. I could not swallow ANY of that spit, so good luck for those of you who try that gross option! LOL

I am 12 weeks and this saliva thing grosses me out. For the most part I make it to the sink of just sit with it waiting for an opportunity. I'm glad I can show my fiance this post and say its normal! Honestly, the salvia is what makes me want to vomit...I've been lucky, this whole pregnancy I've just been indigested and salvia ridden...no vomit but man this saliva is pushing me to the brink quite often. I've noticed sour hard candy helps. Warheads and suckers are the best. On a side note those preggo pops are a waste of money for me maybe they help some people but honestly half the flavors grossed me out...except the sour rasberry which led me to warheads. Hope that helps and I'm glad I'm not alone. Even if I'm not glad we all have to suffer. 8-|

I'm going on 21 wks and still spitting. I don't go anywhere without my spit bottle. It's sooo gross and I can't stand it anymore. I haven't tried taking meds. Can I have the nane of the meds so I can ask my OB if I can take it. Thanks. This is awful!!!

i am 12 weeks pregnant and this is my 3rd pregnancy. Like many of you, I am also glad to know that I am not the only person in this world with this excessive saliva symptom. My mom, who has never experienced this in all her 5 pregnancies with me and my siblings, thought I am weird and told me to do some research online. I have a 'spit cup' that I carry with me day and night in the house. If I have to leave th house, I use a paper/plastic coffee cup with a lid that has a partial opening. I know my hubby feels disgusted with my spit cup, so I try to keep I out of his sight. He understands though. I also have to place my cup next to my pillow at night. I love it when I fall asleep because the saliva stops pooling in my mouth when I'm unconscious. My excess saliva problem did not cease until I gave birth (both pregnancies). So I know I have a long way to go. I wish there was a 'spit sucker' (like the ones dentists place under our tongues to suck away saliva/prevent drooling during tooth filing/cleaning) that I use. I won't be able to use it out of the house though. But in the comforts of my own home, it will be the best thing to have. Just slip it under the tongue and let it drain to a little pouch that I can carry around my neck. LOL.

Boy am I glad I found this site, I´ve been thinking I was the only one... This is my second pregnancy and I am 17 weeks.  I had the spits last time as well, but that stopped at 20 weeks. I am terrified it won´t this time. I also have the Hyperemesis Gravidarum which is getting better (last time as well).
Those of you brave women who are going through your second, third or fourth pregnancy, how was the spit the second (third...) time around in comparison with the first? Was it similar? Please answer!! I can manage three more weeks with my spitcup by my side and staying indoors isolated but not much longer!!!
Hope this awful spit will stop for all of you!
