For the past 2 nights as I am trying to get to sleep I have a pulsing sound in my left ear like a heartbeat or someone breathing almost like how a sonogram sounds I have no idea what it could be at first I thought it was a ear infection or a bug....but I don't feel anything moving so I soon't think its that, but you have all made me feel better knowing that I am not the only one!

Hi I am also a sufferer of this heartbeat sound in my ear. It may be pulsatile tinnitus.

I thought I was going insane. I've been thinking I would have to live with this forever. I have been dealing with it for over a year now. It started up after I had a bilateral ear infection. I am calling my doctor in the morning any ways so I'm going to be more demanding about finding a solution to this issue. Thank you.

WOW i thought i was just crazy. I have the wooshing heart beat sound in my right ear and to get a quick fix i either have to apply pressure under my ear or turn my head to the right. so 9 times out of 10 im having to sleep on my stomach with my head turned to the right. Its to the point now where it effects my day to day life. Im only 22 and its been going on about 3 months i noticed it after i had a really bad sinsus infection on the right side is there any type of medication that can relieve it even a little? %-)

This is quite interesting, I've been trying to describe this thing to people and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy, my left ear occasionally has that heartbeat pulsating that people have been describing, and a variable degree of a muffledness other times. Not having insurance, has anyone had successful home remedies?

I'm fifteen and I have had a similar problem for a couple of years now. I don't know what's wrong. Whenever I listen to music with the headphones/earphones in both ears, I start hearing a pulsing noise in my right ear. It sounds like bass on a car when it goes down the street, or a heartbeat. It's very irritating. I do not play the volume on my music player loudly, because I'm afraid of this sound. It even happens when the music is at an incredibly low volume. However, when I take an earphone out of one ear, it's suddenly fine again. It's only when the music plays in both ears that I hear it. I don't know what other conditions might cause it except maybe anemia, which I don't have anymore. What can I do?

As far as I understand there aren't actually any cures for this but there are threads here for this condition. It's something like tinnitus but I don't know what else there is to it. Does anyone know about it?

It is interesting when i read through these posts because i have not been able to find anyone who knows EXACTLY what they have. I am a 23 year old female with this same problem; i hear my heartbeat in my right ear.

The problem started about 10 months ago and seems to be getting worse. I have been to a PA-C, family MD, ENT, and even a cardiologist but no one seems to know exactly what is wrong. It has gotten to the point where it is a very constant pulsing noise i hear and it rarely goes away. I have noticed it is a lot louder in the morning immediately after i wake up and frequently at night when i go to bed. I try to keep busy during the day so i will not notice it as much. I have had a Carotid Ultrasound, Brain MRI, Thyroid tests, Cardiology Holter Monitor test, and others, but everything always comes back normal.

The ENT told me he thought it was probably just a slightly abnormal formation somewhere in my ear and every time i have high blood pressure it causes me to hear the blood flow in the abnormal part of the ear. However, he wasn't able to actually find an abnormal part of my ear and i have normal blood pressure.

Occasionally i have noticed some vertigo and high pulse rates (up to 140 beats per minute). Has anyone else had these symptoms with this?

My doctor also mentioned that this could be associated with my weight and it might go away if i lost a few pounds. I have always been slightly "chubby" my whole life, so i really doubted this and it upset me that he told me that considering I am an average weight for my age.

Any responses would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hm, it is possible that you might have broken a small bone in your ear. I know that there is a condition that's similar to tinnitis. I forgot the name of it but try to find a doctor who knows what it is. I think it's like pulmonary tinnitus or something. Does that sound plausible?

I'm 21 and along with all of you have this horrible heart beat in my left ear for three months. I have been going to an ear nose and throat doc for a month now and my MRI and CAT came back normal, well save for the discovery of having a disjointed septum. I am going for my MRA tomorrow, any I hope it turns up something. I would can't stand the noise! I can't get a second of peace, it is constant.

Wow! I didn't know this was such a common problem. I have this happen to me years ago with a rumbling in my ear after being out in very cold winds. It went away after a year or two but has come back now. I hear a heartbeat in my ear but it's usually when I first wake up in the morning and when I settle in for bed. I don't know what has made it come back but it is really starting to get on my nerves! I guess I am going to have to break down and get a Dr's appt. to try to figure out what my problem is.

Hi im a 25 female in pa I have this swooshing noise in my left ear , it sounds like a babies heart beat on an ultra sound, I can only hear it when I turn my head to the left. I tried a ear syringe with warm water, which made me unable to hear, went to the ER they said my ears are Perfectly clear and asked if i have recently flew in a plane. haven't been in on since February and this noise started about 2 and a 1/2 weeks ago after a shower, I think i might have got soap in my ear but i have never had this happen to me before though i am prone to getting ear infections. this noise is really scaring me, and its ticking me off i cant turn to the left or i hear it so i have to rotate my entire body and i feel retarted. I don't know what to do and know i cant get into a ENT specialist for months i feel bad for people who suffer with this for years, this is crazy! I was scared i had a bug in my ear or something, i remember watching an er show on TV before, women goes to the er for a bad ear pain and she had a roach lodged between her ear wall and her ear drum ::shivers:: now that freaks me out and i am glad that didn't happen to me but that's the first thing i thought of....then again my local hospital needs to be shut down, they discharged my senile grand mother who tried to OD w/o any tests on her, but that's besides the point, anyone here ever cure this noise fully with out it coming back on you? I would love to hear how...lol

Hi,

i too have been suffereing from beating in my ears, for years, however i really only got worried about it within the last week. I have also for years experianced a noise in my ears, its not really ringing. its more a high pitched data transfer.. (you know the sound a fax machine makes when it connects. imagine that at a very high pitch) this is constant,..

within the last week i have had several things happen

last week sunday, i had a severe headache or migrane, which was centerd around my right eye, if i put a bit of presure above my eye, or even at the side of my eye, it releaved the pain quite a lot. for a few moments.

then, on tuesday i had terrible ear ache, in my right ear.

thurs and fri, the migrane.headache came back

then last night, earache in my right ear.

i have also noticed i am startign to go a little deaf, in my ears.

I have an appointment at the doctors on monday to check into this..

i dont usually take tablets, or painkillers, however in the last week, i have taken loads, as the pain has been unbearable.

just though i would post

I was glad when I found this forum and I want to thank everyone for sharing their stories.
I had "pulse in ear" for a few months. It went away for a bit but came back. I noticed that it wasn't as bad when I was lighter. As I put on a few pounds it's gotten worse. Also, I typically take a teaspoon of bee pollen every morning (great source of vitamin B is one of the benefits). I was out for about a week and was too lazy to stop by the store to get more. I finally got some yesterday. I go to herbologyst every other week. When I described my problem she suggested Horse Chestnut. I started taking it yesterday (2 capsules in the morning, 2 in the afternoon). So far this morning my head is blissfully quiet! I even tried to trigger the pulsing – bending down, moving my head from side to side... Nope – still good. I felt pressure in my ear in the morning, but it's gotten better as the day went on. So, the three things that worked for me are weight control, bee pollen and horse chestnut (the one I am taking is by Planetary Herbals, Horse Chestnut – Vein Strength). Perhaps this is something you would like to check out for yourself.
