I used .05% first for a few months and it didnt do anything. I moved to the .10% and that when it really started to help. Different people, different results.

After using Tazorac .05% for over a week, my lips didn’t get overly irritated. In fact, i think it’s starting to make the spots smoother. Like DM alluded to, it tightens the skin upon contact. Things seem to be pointed in the right direction. Not sure if there has been much of a visible difference yet, but they feel better than they did before the treatment. I will continue to assess.

It’s definitely worth the trip to to the dermatologist. I’ve seen people say it hasn’t worked, some say it has, it’s really dependent on the person.

What’s the recovery time after using the TCA? Doesn’t it take time to heal? Also, what’s the name of the one you bought?

No, it burns and turns the skin white where it was applied but then overnight, the color comes back to the spot but still a little white. The day after it starts to peel off which I always somehow tear off too early. Because of this, its definitely red but doesnt look any worse than if you had some dry skin and pulled it off too soon. I wasn't crazy self-conscious about it when talking to people if that gives you an idea but I sit in a cube most of the day.

The redness goes away after a few days. It's actually not bad at all and has been working for me. If you see an earlier post, I describe how it has helps tremendously on my worst spot (used TCA on it Jan 5) and want to try other areas.

Try a test spot/area but nothing too big. Like I said, the TCA combined with 0.10% tazorac have given me excellent lasting results...so far.

You can find it on amazon, its a tiny bottle with a white label and plain black font. I dont think im allowed to give a link on here but its easy to find.

Everyone is different so it's good to see others trying!!

I still stand by the Erbium full ablative laser but I think most folks on here are too nervous for that or dont have the money (actually didnt cost much).

See, I'm not nervous at all amd I can find the damn money (can't really put a price on being happy), but ive called multiple derms and none have even heard of fordyce and the one that I went to acted like I was insane for bringing up CO2 laser for this. They said if the spots get bigger I can come in and get them popped with a needle. I laughed. How did you find a derm that treated it?
Reply
I emailed and called about 25 of them and asked if they treat them and how (both dermatologists and skin clinics that had lasers). Some were out of state, one was in mexico, one was in Germany, I didn't care! The ones that said they do treat them, roughly 8, I made appointments with. I was able to speak with them each about techniques and what they have done in the past. I tried a few different things with different ones before I found tazorac and the erbium laser worked best. Even the tazorac didnt do anything for 6 months until I requested she give me the higher strength.

I also asked them about acid peels, both TCA and BCA because there are a few medical write-ups showing deep acid peels work.

So that's where Im at now, doing test spots with 50% tca combined with tazorac (applied at most once a day) and it seems to be working...for me. I had made laser follow ups but the tazorac was helping enough that I didnt feel laser was necessary.

You can be too far away from a big city, and if you are, make the time. Call places and leave messages. The good doctors will ALWAYS call you back and want to work with you. Be honest with them. They more than likely are going to say leave them alone but talk about how (at least for me) they made me self-conscious and were causing depression. How I would cancel plans with friends and family because I thought they were so noticeable. Tell them you are aware of the risks and all you want is a doctor that is willing to try, even if the laser or cream or peel is the lowest strength, you can also go back in a week and say you need to turn up the laser to go deeper (I did!).

As mentioned, Ive tried everything in the book and the hardest part with these damn spots is being consistent with the treatment. You have to be aware of what effects them but I can tell you sitting in the mirror and stretching your lips constantly does absolutely nothing and will drive you CRAZY. Try to live your life like you never had these (I know...) but still be aware of them. I kept a food and activity diary and noted how the looked in the morning and at night.

These things are caused by hormones, stress (internally and externally), and genetics. Not much we can do with the genetics but the others can be diminished by changing your lifestyle. I strongly believe eating healthier and cleaner, exercising more, drinking more water, staying away from anything bad for my lips and consistently cleansing the lips and using mouth wash have helped.

Change those things in your life and add in tazorac and tca peel or laser, you WILL see results. And you know what, if the all this stuff ends up being temporary, I wont have a problem doing it a few times a year.

So this site deleted two of my posts that had a lot of info. they both referenced an article and doctors that know their stuff.

All im doing on here is trying to help others and explain what has helped me, what has WORKED on these awful spots. Ive spent hundreds of hours obsessing about these and all I want is to share experiences and my testing and info

Not sure I will post much more on here since they censor a medical forum that I THOUGHT was here to help each other out.

not happy

hey DM, please let me know if you intend to stop posting on here. I look every few days to see if you post anything on here, I really appreciate your insight and dedication to finding a solution. I'm still using the .05% Tazorac. I believe its altering my lips in a good way. Its only been a few weeks but I see a slight difference in how they FEEL. I will continue to update and check this site. If you do decide to refrain from posting here (please dont), I'd be more than willing to exchange info with you, as you're one of the only people I've come across that has a positive outlook and continue to look for answers. Thanks again!

Im not sure why they deleted it but it was frustrating after spending the time to write it up but I calmed down now and will continue to post on here.

Try stepping up to the .10% Tazorac, you shouldve had a deep peeling of the lips already.  I used the .05% for months with the exact same results are you, they FELT better but not much of a appearance change.

Go back to the doc and ask for at least a sample.  All dermatologist office have the 5mg sample tubes.  It will last you a couple months to see if it works.  If it does, then pay for the 30 mg tube.  (the 5 mg tubes are good for travel though.

Have you tried the TCA 25% or 35% test spot?

I did my third a week ago today with 50% and its completely healed but a tad raised (will go away as it heals more).  Spots are obviously completely gone but this is a different area for me so Im going to wait and see their reaction to the acid and if they come back.

It sucks but be patient!!!

And my info that got deleted was about a write about home remedies. I've never had ANY luck with the home remedies (besides acid but that is more of a skin clinic procedure...done at home!!).

Since they wont let me link to it, I will just copy and past it here.

There is also a good read about DHT and hairloss. Some people think the hormone DHT causes the sebaceous glands to become active, thats why you see these spots show up normally around 15 or 16 then again later in life around 29 or 30 but Im sure most of on here have noticed them at all different times.

Anyways, Ill try to post info from these two or somehow direct you to them without getting the post deleted.
