Hi All,
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have exact same symptoms.
1. Rumbling noise in left part of stomach (looks to me like my colon, which lies just above my rectum)
2. Embarrassing  noises in silent workplace/training-rooms :(
3. Muscle twitches mostly in lips and legs.
4. Mostly while you are in toilet .. You might feel like something similar to vibration of mobile phone in legs
4.  Urge to pass the flatulence in toilet which will stop the rumbling noise

Research: Coffe/Heavy meals/bacteria/probiotic/etc

Solution: Noting works

I've had it for years and it's ruined my life. But I just found out recently that only a couple of tums will neutralize the acid so your stomach won't make noises. And avoiding coffee, cocoa and soda along with dairy helps make it better. So don't forget, at least around an hour before your earliest class, take two tums. The calcium carbonate helps. (I know they say the calcium citrate absorbs faster, but trust me, carbonate seems to do the job and sticks around longer to keep working.) No GasX or no beano worked for me. And if you feel you're getting diarrhea with it, of course take immodium an hour before class if you think it's going to be one of those days. If you start getting acid reflux, get a sodium bicarbonate over-the-counter drug specifically for acid reflux.

Same thing happens to me. I've been stuck in hell and I think I lost my hair from it too. I've had it for years and it's ruined my life. But I just found out recently that only a couple of tums will neutralize the acid so your stomach won't make noises. And avoiding coffee, cocoa and soda along with dairy helps make it better. Definitely avoid tomatoes. No tomatoes. The calcium carbonate in Tums help. (I know they say the calcium citrate absorbs faster, but trust me, carbonate seems to do the job and sticks around longer to keep working.) No, GasX or beano did NOT work for me. And if you feel you're getting diarrhea with it, of course take immodium if you think it's going to be one of those days. If you start getting acid reflux, get a sodium bicarbonate over-the-counter drug specifically for acid reflux.

I have all the same exact problems. Im 15 year old girl who fails school. Who fails to seek a boyfriend. No one understands....its embaressing. Ive missed so much school. This needs to be cured. At times it gets so bad i think of suicide or i get depressed.

You need to talk with an adult if you are becoming depressed or thinking about suicide. If this problem is that serious for you then you really need to talk with an adult and see if a doctor can find a solution for you. Intestinal problems are not worth losing school time or even your life over.

I have the same problems! I have these noises that come from anus and it feels like a bunch of trapped gas! Ive missed so much school, im afraid to be around people. My Doctor said its IBS and stress related. They don't understand. Its always on my mind. I cant tell you theres a time where i never think about it. My stomach hurts a lot prior to it. I want some type of cure or medication for this. Definitely the noises. I stopped drinking coffee for almost a month now, i cut out every drink but water, and that helped a little. Ive read everyone's posts, its ruining everyones life

Hi
I am one of the earlier posts. Off late I seem to be having a bit less of these problems. Following are few things I tried and I am not sure which one of these is working for me, or if I am just experiencing a temporary relief due to some other reason.
1. Per an earlier poster's suggestion, I tried 4 tabs of Probiotics for Bowel Calm every day for a couple of weeks, I haven't completed the suggested dosage though, just had it for a couple of weeks.
2. I had just a couple of RABLET-IT capsules given to me by an Indian doctor, who seemed to be very confident about its effectiveness for this problem. But I just had two of them, one each 1/2 hr before food morning and evening, in total. So not sure if it has been so effective
3. I have changed my food habit a bit in that, I am having a heavy breakfast of 3 muffin sized breads with a packet each of animal fat and rasperry jam, which is quite heavy per my standards, I just used to have one of them or one and a half before, which used to make me feel empty stomach-ed with acids before it got to lunchtime. Also, I have heard of an old saying which goes "eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper".
I haven't cut down on my black coffee though.
Quite worth a try before you get depressed or suicide thoughts? There must be some solution which will definitely work for you, so don't lose hope.

Try going on a gluten and dairy free diet. This usually helps with unusual and unexplained conditions. Also supplement your diet with a good probiotic as this will enhance your good bacteria that you need in your gut. Gluten intolerance will not show up in tests...usually shows by symptoms only....there is lots of info on gluten sensitivity on the web and good recipies. good luck...try not to worry too much...make sure you eat enough. Also look into the book EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE and eat the foods for your blood type.

i feel exactly what each one of you have said. I am a bit younger than you guys and this is all i think about. I dont know how to get rid of the noises and i try to eat less so i dont have them reoccuring. Every class, i ask to go to the bathroom because i feel discomfort and i miss many school days as well due to this problem. I went to the doctor and got many tests... they said there was nothing wrong but there obviously is becuase these actions are not normal. Every day i worry about the noises in class and that i will not be allowed to go to the bathroom. I have completely eliminated dairy but its no difference. i really need an answer on how to tame this issue... any other suggestions? and did the anxiety pills help?

Hello, this is in regards to your post above. I know how you feel, I have the same symptoms and feel like I am going crazy because i keep asking the doctors to run cat scans and ultra sounds and blood work on me for the possible fear of some stomach cancer or something. I have helped the majority of my symptoms on my own. I take Metamucil (which is a fiber supplement) every day. It helps with controlling my bowel movements, whether I am going to much or not enough Metamucil will always do the opposite of what your body is doing if it is not supposed to be going as much or if it is needing to go more. It is a very healthy balance, also you should take a probiotic because this helps with your overall feeling and well-being. The only problem I face now is every once in a while I have horrible lower abdominal pain and pain on the left side of my stomach right before I need to go to the bathroom. But that only happens once in a while. I hope this helps.

I had the same thing ----- try getting a massage and teach yourself how to relax......feel what it likes to be relax.....I was too wound up and the IBS was winding me even further. this might be all anxiety.....it may be all nerves.....the mind and the gut react together....some of us resolve our problems by allowing the problem to end up in our gut........

Hey all,

It's so comforting reading a thread like this and knowing I'm not alone with this embarrassing. . .well, whatever it is!

Like so many who have posted I have had difficulty with this for years and it has influenced my life extremely negatively. I was 14/15 when this first started and only now in my mid-twenties am I starting to gain control over it. I believe that it is both physical and mental. There is just no way you can try to live your life with these symptoms and not become anxious and even depressed at how restricting it is and how frustrating it can be to want to succeed but be held back by something no one else sees as a big deal or problem.

So here are a few things I do:

1. Watch what you eat! I'm now vegan and have found this has helped a lot. I'm not saying it's a cure for everyone, but it worked for my body.

2. Exercise! Not only is it good for mental health in general but when you are feeling anxious you build up a lot of excess energy, you need to get rid of this in order to relax. If you aren't able to do that this energy will put you into the overdrive feeling of anxiety and anxiety presents us with our natural fight or flight attitude. When the body wants to get out of what it considers danger (which for people with our condition may just be sitting in an exam room) their body will instinctively want to empty itself. I've found that more vigorous exercise was beneficial for myself to get out that pent up frustration than the more calming yoga. But you have to find what works for you.

3. Therapy. I went ahead with therapy for anxiety. I can't say it completely helped but it enabled me to begin to understand what was wrong with me. Knowledge is power! Which leads me onto. . .

4. Educate yourself! Find out everything you possibly can about this condition. Find out about yourself. Keep a diary tracking what you've eaten, had to drink, and done in terms of activities that day. Watch out for patterns.

5. Talk about it. It's so easy to lock yourself away and not want to confront what is wrong, often leaving family, friends and even teachers stumped for why you're suddenly absent. Everyone has weird things going on with their bodies! Find people you can trust and be open about it, you never know who is experiencing the same problems you are. Also, don't worry about not being able to have a boyfriend/girlfriend. I've been with my boyfriend for three years now, and sure at first it was really tough, it still can be! But I spoke about it to him and now we just laugh about it!

6. Be determined! Oh the amount of times I was turned away with "It's just IBS"! And for years I took it. Until one day, and recently mind you, when I was told "It's just stress and IBS" I replied with: "It may just be stress and IBS but it's ruining my life". Finally, someone listened! And I currently feel I'm on the right track for once. But we also need determination with our future. As easy as it is to hide and shut the world out, it's the worst thing we can do. Stay ambitious and enjoy life!

Yours sincerely,

One day I hope this is no longer called "just IBS",

X

I feel for everyone here. Have had these similar problems for a couple years. Still do and still looking for answers. I'm far from a dr, but will share my experience and some things I've learned.
My symptoms consist of being bloated and full of gas, yet for the most part, cannot pass any on either end. Slight pains in left side where large intestine makes its turn down. The noise sounds like something is inside me trying to talk. I look foward to the a.m. to hit the head, but then the noises start once I'm empty, although I always feel I could go more. The smallest ammounts of food make me stuffed.
The guest post from a couple weeks ago makes a good point. Everyone is cutting out dairy, but what about gluten/wheat. It's in everything we eat. Especially all the processed c**p in our ready to eat meals.
Stress can be a cause, but is not the only one. I take a butt-load, (sorry for pun), of Xanax for anxiety and Dalmane, (another benzo), for sleep. Have anxiety for whole life but only started getting these problems a couple years ago.
Blood tests are only helpful if the dr is looking for the right problem. I.B.S. is so over-diagnosed these days. Ask for complete bloodwork AND get the results in writing. Don't just have the dr say "you're fine". Find out if you're deficient in any vitamins/minerals, (you should see your results, about 3-4 pages worth, then the proper parameters next to them). You'll know if you're lacking in anything.
Water's good, but don't drink right after a meal. It raises the pH of your stomach acid, (something you can get tested), which doesn't allow the food to break down properly. Now you have undigested food in your small intestine fermenting and creating gas.
For me, Gas-X and the like don't do a damn thing. Antacids work a tiny bit. They help me burp. Check your meds, if you're on any, for possible side-effects. And exercise. Also, never lie down after a meal. It doesn't allow your stomach to work right, and do it's dance, to break down the food. Plus it can allow your stomach acid to flow back up into your throat, (acid reflux).
Some of the answers are common sense. Got the runns. Take anti-diarhea med. If it happens ONLY whey you are nervous, then it's most likely anxiety. But IMO, drs are totally useless. They treat you like a guinnea pig, so save some $$ and try cutting out foods, (dairy, gluten, soy, etc.) on your own. And definately get out and move. We were never made to sit all day.

i have similar problems with embarrassing noises when it gets quiet. hi, im 21 yrs old
im experiencing some similar isssues.

it mostly happens mid afternoon in class, usually if i eat something' before class.
i found that cheese is a bad idea until i get home for the day.

i used to think its due to anxiety, but i learned some breathing techniques to relax while its happening, and the noise does not go away completely. especially when i have to take a test and the whole room is quiet.
