Also, i had a gallbladder ultrasound that didn't find anything in 2009, i refused the hida as i considered it too invasive and knew that this is something hormonal. Maybe, it does have something to do with how our bile is produced and breaking down of fats? I still have a remainder of digestive problems (it got to the point that i quickly became allergic to all but 10 foods in 2009-2011) such as food allergies and ibs and stomach burning and throat burning from it at times but its not as severe as it used to be.....very frustrating though because i know this is where so many of my digestive issues began ...but there is not alot of studies for answers yet, glad i have you ladies to compare notes with. Also, i do notice energy medicine helps relieve it usually when it comes on.....but looking for it to go poof and away. I have not had my hormones tested b/c i am very sensitive to most meds and would prefer to not be on synthetic/natural hormones given my reactions in past to so many meds and supplements. Mainly working through diet to help my body be happy and balanced.

well, if its new for you, always make sure a dr checks out that its not stones or an infection if the pain keeps up.

For over a year i was experiencing the pain only during my menses. And I never told my doc about it. After 15 months i began having vey high fevers. They decided to do a hida scan, turns out my gallbladder was 0% unfunctional. And i only had the pain above my bellybutton. I called it my gut wrenching pain.

I was recently diagnosed with Gallstones.and I was told to eat healthy, no fat, no cheese, no fried foods. The doctors said if I eat healthy then my symptoms will diminished. The doctors will schedule surgery.. I was given pain meds and nausea med..Not sure when the surgery would be since it's a public hospital and I have no insurance. In the meantime.. I am eating healthier but having so many symptoms.. So much as pain in gallbladder, anxiety, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, face flushed, pain in my upper right back that radiates to my right shoulder, shortness of breath, stomach cramps..also I just got my period, on the 2nd day.. I have really unbearable cramps!! Not sure if there's any correlation to my gallstones.. Is the stomach/ cramps pain related? Not sure what to do.. I was told to wait it out by eating healthy and see if the symptoms go away..i'm frustrated and miserable.. Any advice?

I was had a scan which revealed gallstones 10yrs ago after visiting dr with pains both in the right side and the right shoulder. I decided to give it a go managing this with weight loss and lower fat diet. Within a year symptoms and discomfort had disappeared. I remained symptom free for years. Then over the last year i have noticed the symptoms are back but only during my menstrual cycle. It starts anywhere between 3-8 days before my period and lasts a few days into it. The worse thing is that because the pain comes at a point when i am emotionally all over the place then i start imagining alsorts of terrible things in my head usually culminating in liver cancer. So it was a real relief to enter the link between gallbladder discomfort and menstrual cycles and find this thread. Thanks for everyone who has posted.

Hi all, I have had intermittent gall bladder pain and also very heavy periods- my doc checked out the heavy periods but wasn't interested in the gallbladder pain. This has been noticeable for 2 years although heavy periods a lot longer. I just googled heavy periods and gall bladder pain and arrived here so reading every one else's symptoms there seems to be a definately link. I have been doing aot of research and it could be to do with too much trans fats and maybe saturated fats. A lady on another site recommends large doses of cod liver oil( not heat treated) and so the budwig diet is supposed to cure this issue. I will try these out for myself and report back!

Same thing happened to me about a month ago.

I won't to get it checked out and I was experiencing the same things as you.
Turns out I had a syth on my ovaries. It will come every month but its nothing to really worry about. It just hurts alot before your period.

I also suffer from gallbladder spasms before my period. I have been treating this with a diet change. Mostly eating all natural or organic vegetables and proteins(meats).I do eat dairy like yogurt, milk, and cheese but I try to limit my intake to one dairy product a day and none the days before my period. I also take Solaray brand Dandelion( it is a mix of root and leaf). 2 pills with each meal when I think I'm going to get an attack (like the days leading up to my period). You can take 2 pills up to 4 times in one day. It is all natural and dandelion stimulates bile production and it is one of the best liver cleansers. It increases the activity of the liver and the flow of bile into the intestines. So while it helps with the bile for the gallbladder it is also helping cleanse the liver of excess estrogen which helps lessen gallbladder spasms before and during your period. Sometimes dandelion doesn't fully do the job and when this happens(usually when I break my diet and eat something fatty which sometimes you just have to cheat) I take a homeopathic remedy called chelidonium majus made by boiron. This homeopathic calms the spasms and pain when my gallbladder goes crazy. Some months are symptom free other months(when i feel my hormones seem a bit out of whack) I get an attack. I just read recently that another homeopathic called belladonna might work better for the spasms because it is said to relax the smooth muscles and relieve spasms. I haven't tried this one yet but might give it a shot soon. I heard it is also helpful for menstrual cramps. I have blabbed on enough. Hope I could be of help to anyone. Thanks for reading and good luck to all of us in hopes that one day doctors can figure out why this is happening to so many women.

I am so relieved to find this conversation thread.  To know that I am not alone makes me feel infinitely better. For years I have been dealing with this pain that started one day after my period began. In the last year or so the pain during my period is severe. I told my OBGYN and she dismissed it and told me to take ibroprofen before my period. (unhelpful!). The pain was radiating and would come in waves. Now it is so intense that I can barely function for a full day of my period. I haVe been having symptoms I foolishly ignored separately from my period. Feeling like I had a rubber ball tucked under my rib cage, bloating and other symptoms of gallbladder issues.  I have just seen a gastro doc and my testing will be complete with the results in a few days time. After reading everyone else's posts I haven seen many successful natural remedies. I am so happy to see that. But my pain during my periods is so severe that I am losing one day a month of of my life to this, and 2-3 days afterwards to the residual pain. Not to mention the anxiety of knowing the pain will come. My question is why removing the gall bladder not an option for so many of you? Good luck to all of you, and here's to more of us finding the support we need!

I had my first gallbladder attack 2 years ago, after stopping birth control pills. Went to the gastro and was diagnosed with GERD (even though I never complained about indigestion or hear burn). Told him that I thought it was a gallbladder attack and he agreed. Decided that since was feeling ok, no need to follow up at that time. Fast forward to present and for the last 5 months experience symptoms again, mainly around my menstrual cycle. Now I even get a migraine (over right eye once a month). Going to the gastro doc today and will hopefully have my gallbladder test to see if functioning correctly. My symptoms are: monthly migraine, gas, constipation, pain or ache in lower right rib cage. Also, pain when doing certain functions ie: exercise, dance.

I have had the same symptoms as you with the same outcome as you. My doctor can't seem to find anything. Although, I'm now having more and more persistent pain and problems. Guess I need to push the issue more with my doctors, maybe you should as well. Good luck.

I thought I was alone on this subject...and did not want to even talk to the dr. about this link, I figured the dr. would think I am crazy. . but I also have notice the gallbladder pain with the onset of my menstral cycle. it seems to hit the strongest about 2 weeks before menstration begins... I have had many test and an ultrasound of my gallbladder and they can't find anything wrong..the dr. says its IBS...I don't think so. I have been dealing with this for 10 years and have tried a lot of remidies, diets, gallbladder flushes etc... so far what seems to help the most is taking" PURIFY" its a detox herbal gut cleansing formula that makes you "go" every day, it keeps everything in your gut moving and it seems to the best thing I have tried. I have been on it for 2 weeks and just started my period and I feel fine...no gallbladder pain...relief at last ! any other remedies out there??
