I have exerienced the same buzzing sensation. Kinda like a zap to your brain. And i too thought maybe i was crazy or something even worried about talking to my doctor about it. I did find one possible answer. SSRI withdrawl. or antidepressent withdrawl. I am currently taking Zoloft and ativan for anxiety/deression. If i forget to take the zoloft i get the brain buzzing sensation. I notice it most when i am falling asleep. Hope maybe this helps.
You guys probably involuntarily fasted certain "bad foods" from your diets, taking prescription drugs, might make the buzz come back when it isn't suppose to be coming.. The buzz/shock you're experiencing is an electric surge coming out from the pineal gland in the center of the brain, at times of great concentration or sleeping times (when entering a trance) the pineal gland that is now more liquid than calcified

Really glad i found this, i have been asking everyone about this and i was starting to think i was crazy. I get the same sensation, i always described it as like a swirling sensation that washes over my eyes to the back of my head. It happens to me every minute or so. It is sort of disorienting and reminds me of vertigo but its just getting to me.
Anyways, aside from people telling me its all in my head, i heard it could be from caffiene. However, i only drink tea's and iced tea's so i dont feel confident in that. Another thing I thought it might be from is... don't mean to set off the bells and whistles, but smoking weed. Taking time off from it didn't seem to change anything but maybe its from the chemicals in my brain? Anyways, has anyone else found something to link to this sensation? thanks

Wow.. glad I'm not the only one. I am really dazed out right now.. This stuff just started recently.
I take no medications whatsover and my brain is currently going through that electric hum as everybody else describes.
A little background: I had migraines for about 2 years.. I spent an entire year taking Excedrin and was OD'ing on it without realizing it. I got to the point where I think I didn't even need the excedrin.. the excedrin itself was causing my headaches. Maybe I was getting a dependency on it? After I stopped I had a couple days of really bad head pains.. those went away.
But then slowly over time, right when I'm about to fall asleep at night my head would start buzzing.. It wakes me back up. Then I'm freaking out because I feel like my head is being electrocuted.
Well, last night the head-buzz didn't go away. All night, instead of sleeping, I was head-buzzing. I woke up a few hours ago and still have this head buzz. I have work in about 2 hours. How the hell do you call out of work with these symptoms? I'm starting to get stabbing pains in my head along with hum.
You know what the worst part about the head buzz is? It's when it's momentarily 'shut off' for a second.

To the guest who heard it could be from caffeine.. tea could have just as much caff as regular coffee. So ya might not want to rule that theory out.
I get buzzing in the front part of my head/brain sometimes during the day.... I also have been getting panic attacks so I'm wondering if they can be related.

So...basically, I'm not insane. 2 neurologists, 3 GP, 1 psychiatrist, and 3 MRI's later and I still have no answers. I have been stared at by every doc like i'm nuts!!! This started for me in Nov of 06. It comes and goes, the giant buzz. I get the eye motion also. I instinctively close my eyes when it happens, sometimes helps. I get my zaps in clusters. Sometimes 1 or 2 mild ones and then there's the terrible ones where I get like 5-15. After that I always feel super tired, thirsty, sluggish, confused, can't think clearly, and extremely irritable. Sometimes I even start to cry because I feel like I am going to go nuts just from the sensation. Sometimes I get the buzzing down my arms and into my fingers. There have been 3 instances where my balance was completely knocked off, the floor felt like a rolling earthquake, and instant severe nausea. I am always sitting, standing, or walking. When I go to lay down, I get 1 or 2. But once I am laying down, I don't feel them anymore. I have been diagnosed with parasthesia, which is a bullcrap term that means absolutley nothing. I have been tested for MS, lime disease, syphilus, HIV. One doc suggested a seizure disorder but neuro did not follow up when I requested 48 hour brain wave test. Last year, I had almost 2 months without this horrific problem...it was heaven!!! I have changed my diet, drank more water, blah, blah, blah. But I still have reached no conclusions as to why I had the lapse. When I get them alot in 1 day, I cannot function. When my GP told me to go to psych, I got really pissed. I feel like I am going to go insane when I have a bad day of what I call "the fuzzies". I read all the above blogs and there are only a couple that do not really describe my sensation, but the "starWars" one really nailed it!!! Those words totally describe it. Also the no reception idea works for imagery. I do have a background of paxil and celexa use, although I have messed with the dosage also, looking for an answer....none. My cellphone use if very minimal.
I think this is some type of neurological disorder that hasn't really been studied. Every person who has gone to doc gets the same look and the same answer. Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I am getting really tired of paying my copays for nothing. I have come to the conclusion that I will just have to deal with this terrible "thing" until someone finds the answer.....
If ANYONE, ANYONE has any useful information or suggestions, by all means please reply.
So nice to get this off my chest to people who understand this creepy sensation.
To those who said they enjoy it....YOU'RE FREAKING NUTS!!!!!

This is actually a common topic in the meditation community, as hightened awareness and higher levels of consciousness is probably the cause in many cases. You should first of all check out the exploding head syndrome, which is probably something similiar or the same as what some of you have. Anyways, here's my case:
I only get it as a brief, electric, extremely loud and skull-penetrating sound. I don't start vibrating, my eyes don't move, and it doesn't move anwhere in my body. It's just in my head.
The first time it happened was the very first tme I took a good look at myself in the mirror as a child. I was so young I didn't even remember my own name, but I still remember this experience because of the sound.
The second time was also as a child, only this time I was older and walking in the forest. I suddenly had the realization that I'm actually alive, observing the world around my. At the same time it felt like I moved outside of my body for a very brief moment. As a child I often did this on purpose by somehow forcing my awareness and consciousness to expand, because I liked the rush, the sound and the brief moment of viewing myself from the outside. As I got older I lost this ability, or forgot about it.
It took 15-20 years before I heard this sound again. I had just gotten interested in psychology and psychedelics, and tried psilocybin mushrooms. During my first entheogen session I had this sound so many times I had to keep my mind busy with singing and dancing, because I got bombared with it. Sitting still automatically led to thinking about my own existence, which often caused the sound. Over the next 7-8 psychedelic sessions the sound gradually faded in frequency, but every single time I had some kind of realization I also heard the sound.
The last time it happened I was meditating. It happened exactly when I noticed I had formed an imaginary bubble around me hindering all my racing thoughts from really becoming thoughts; in other words when I noticed I had inner peace.
In my case, it only happends when I raise my awareness and consciousness. Every time I hear the sound I know something important just happened. It's like a little red light to me, which tell me I should pay close attention to what just went through my mind.

i had this for a week or so when i was 17. i had the head buzz with the vibration at the same time every 20 seconds or so. luckily for me i new the cause. i had taken what i believed to ecstasy >;) (i still dont know if it was ketamin or what else), i was young and stupid at the time and if this isnt a warning to other people about using drugs like that, then i dont know what is. the reason i know this is what caused it, was because my friend at the time had taken the same thing and had the same problem. the sensation went away gradually for both of us that week or so then stopped. anybody who knows how drugs like ecstasy/ketamin work, will know that they effect the neuro transmittors in the brain by speeding them up many times faster. the problem is, though, that this almost always dramatically wears down the neuro transmittors (almost like a tire on a car that has doing to many hand brake turns), as too much info is being transmitted through the brain when on these drugs, that the joints between the different transmittors become exhausted and burned out. this then causes faulty signalling in the neuro transmittors (a bit like when you see a light bulb on its last legs). in simple terms, for me, i had pretty much worn my brain out when i had taken that drug, but the reasons for that sensation would pretty much be the cause what is happening all you guys.
the problem for doctors, i suppose, would be that 1001 things could be the route of this issue. whether that be damage caused to the brain/nervous system from any source, disease, condition, injury, drugs, environment. i dont understand, though, why every one seems to be getting up in arms about their doctor reffering them to a psycologist. people seem to have a stupid fear and stigma when it comes to do with anything to do with mental health. mental health doesnt just cover the emotional (if you like), it also covers the physical. for instance there are some drugs that can regulate that neuro transmittor flow, but a regular gp aint gonna sort that out for you (or even necessarilly understand the problem either).

I experience this pressure/sensation/buzzing/warmth in my forehead 24/7, I believe it has to do with entering a higher state of consciousness; opening our third eye. A metaphysical perspective on this is that you are having access to the kundalini energy that resides at the base of your spine, drugs like THC DMT LSD psilocybin are tools that can be used to activate this energy that is untapped in most people. Research Kundalini Awakening, it is more common then you think. People around the globe are all experiencing common phenomena like this. Spiritual revolution? Perhaps.

thank you all for telling your experience .
i am having the same symptoms , and i believe it because i stopped prozac .

Hi all - such a relief to know I am not the only one with this - I honestly didnt even know how to describe it but the star wars saber thing is pretty accurate - its a really intensive vibration in the middle of the head for a few seconds - makes me panic and go hot but I think that's because I am nervous when it happens. I dont think I look different when it happens but it feels like my head will explode and that my skull isnt big enough for the nergy going on inside it. I havent been to the doctors yet because I didnt know how to describe it - thanks to this forum, I now have the words. I am not taking any medication but I do work long hours and travel a lot - I think it is worse when I am really tired. I feel like it is right in the centre of my head and visualise it on the top of my spine. It seems to send out electrical type pulses periodically and some days these happen every few minutes - if I'm relaxed and happy the the pulses never happen. I think I can 'hear' it without using my ears - it doesnt feel like its got anything to do with my ears at all - it feels like my brain is making the 'noise'. I dont take any medication but I do have vertigo and pretty bad migraines - is it linked to this? Thank you all - good to know I am not alone, not sure what to do about it but would be good if it had a name!
Same thing happens to me since I can remember, instant tv static in my brain and a small rush of pain then disappears as quick as it came. Usually happens at night, I even see a flash sometimes. Went to the docs and they think I'm nuts. Had a mri scan, what a waste of money. Brain expert neurologist has no idea what is wrong with me. Told me to stay away from booz and pork. I've stopped drinking for two months now and just had a jolt that woke me up like jumper cables stuck to synapses. Staring to think I'm related to that kid in the movie powder.

I've been dealing with being tired all of my life. I feel drunk upon waking, and almost disabled in the mornings because I'm still so sleepy. Even if I get 12 hours of sleep. I also have been feeling hit by a truck when I get up in the morning. I get easily confused, sometimes I feel like my brain falls asleep, or my eyes fall asleep without my brain going to sleep. sometimes I just trance out. I'm also very irritable.
STarting getting brain jolts. Arm twitches and leg twitches that would literally wake me up at night. Was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Pms. Cymbalta and Lexapro. Did nothing. Also Migraines that have been getting worse and worse. Then a month ago, a Migraine started full blown grand mal seizures. Went to a neurologist all of these electrical brain jolts, night time jerks and twitches, narcolepsy, morning stiffness and soreness.... everything that most of you have explained above turned out to be nocturnal grand mal seizures... epilepsy. mild seizures in the day time with migraines. I've been put on Topamax. and although I've just on the second week of treatment, my seizures have improved a lot and for the first time in my life I get slight headaches instead of MIGRAINES. He did tell me that I did not have fybromyalgia or PMS and did take me right off the Cymbalta and Lexapro that day.
So see a neurologist and check into seizures.

I am having a constant feeling in my head of what feels like a light electric current flowing all over mainly the top part of my brain. It sort of gives me a cold chill feeling mixed with almost like my hair raising up when you take a balloon and build up static electricity in it. That's about the best way I can describe it. It is a very strange kind of oozing sensation - meaning it kind of oozes slowing through my head and not like real fast or anything. Maybe kind of like the feeling of when you stick a 9 volt battery on your tongue. Any one know what this might indicate?
Guys dont worry about this buzzing noise. We're going tru a spirtual evolution. Our Pineal Gland is being activated!!! It causes pressure between the eyes, buzzing noise when we sleep. Our frequency is raising up. Don't go to doctors, they will just give you medication and will mess your brain chemistry. :D
