I am surprised to see the amount of people who share my symptoms. I thought I was the only person who suffered from severe pain on hands and fingers associated with symptoms of UTI. Usually test negative for infection. Pain occurs at the end of urination and might be worse than the pain of urination. Resolves when voiding pain resolves. Dismissed by mds. Obviously they need to experience the pain to take things seriously. Hard to Helene mo MD is familiar with it

You all are not crazy. I have the same sensations. I am told it is caused by peripheral neuropathy, which is pain in your limbs. There is a link between your spine and the nerve endings in your limbs. I have severe PN in my feet and legs. PN can become progressively worse. Lyrica is usually prescribed to help the pain. The numbness, however, remains. Check with your doctors to see if you have PN. I go to a neurologist for this.

Hi all

I'm a pharmacist originally from London but now working in Australia. I have had a patient with a similar complaint and I have put it down to the fact that the nerve root (in the T region) which innervates the kidneys from the human spine can result in referred pain/numbness/tingling in the hands, wrist and/or fingers. This could explain the pain possibly in conditions where they may be a slight kidney infection, history of kidney stones or history of kidney damage.

I hope this helps you...you're definitely NOT crazy

Kind regards

The excrutiating pain in my hands down to the fingertips when I urinate during a bout of cystitis is truly spectacularly and literally breath taking. I've lived with it for 50 years and the positive element is that I know it is temporary. Good to hear I'm not alone...sorry.

I have this finger / hand pain when urinating and have done as long as I can remember when I hold on to a pee for too long and am desperate to go.  I am a 46 year old man in generally good health except that I have just found out through a routine blood test that I only have one functioning kidney - the other is a dysplastic kidney.  This kind of matches up with what the pharmacist above is saying about referred pain from the T region of the spinal colum.  Apparently the kidney abnormality I have occurs in one person in 1000 (or 1 in 750 depending on where you look) so that could be what is wrong with all of us.  They found out about my kidney abnormality with a blood test for creatinine (raised) and confirmed it with an MRI scan.  It is not a big deal as far as I am concerned as I have always been like this and didn't know until now and apparently lots of people live normal lives with only one kidney and never know about it.

I don't know that this is the reason for the pain, but it is a theory that I am going to ask my doctor about next time I see him for other stuff going on!  I hope that this helps you get a diagnosis.

Same here. Just in the past year. Both times with a bladder infection. I have it in the right arm and hand. Very odd. Mostly in the palm I think. After I finish urinating it goes away. There is no doubt it is connected to the bladder infection. I will ask my dr. but I am pretty sure he will ignore it. It must mean something.

Brandyh: Yes, I have this also when I am getting a bladder infection. I am a woman, 76 rs. old. This just started in the last year. Usually in the right arm and hand - palm area of the hand mostly. I will ask my dr. but I expect he will not know. Something must cause it.

I am a 67 female with a recurring bladder - urinating problem. I also get a burning pain down my right arm into my fingers when urinating and am also looked at oddly by my doctor when mentioning this. Could this be a neurological problem which he is missing ?

I am a 69-year-old female who has had these symptoms for years.  I had asked several doctors about it,

both male and female.  I got the stupid look and they tell me they never heard of this before.

Has anyone found help for this?  If so, what kind of doctor did you see?

I discovered it was my tibial nerve that was pinched. I have had two separate operations for disc replacements in my back and my neck and when I first listed all of my syptons to the consultant surgeon, which ranged from painful sciatica to this almost "pain signal"in my hand when I needed to pass urine, and one by one he told me what it was all about. After my operations I received physiotherapy and  cmbined wih regular yoga, for me I have found this to be enough and have made a full recovery. Howver I do know that some people have had a form of pulse therapy on their ankles (where the tibial nerve starts) and this seems to help with oth the pain and the urgency in urination and sometimes incontinence.

Hope this helps, I am grateful every day for the successful surgery I received, as I am still relatively young <44> and had been in tremendous pain and discomfort for most of my adult life.

Was hoping to find an answer, but glad to hear I am not the only one.  I get a tingle sensation in my fingers when I hold my urine to long and when I need to have a bowl movement.  So strange!
