Get it checked out by a gynae just in case you've got uterine fibroids or ovarian cysts. They are usually harmless and unless they are causing you major problems might be better left alone - but ask the gynae to go through all the options with you and to explain all the risks, both short-term and long-term (everything involves risk but some risks are more acceptable than others - eg a hysterectomy increases your chance of a heart attack, but you might prefer that to embolization which involves cutting off the blood supply to the fibroids and letting them rot inside you over several months...or waiting for the menopause which might take a decade if you are only entering perimenopause). Re my own situation: I have multiple large fibroids and large cysts, all benign, and have decided to wait for "The Change" as I am now 50. I have to take an iron tablet every day, sometimes two (double the daily dose) because my periods are so heavy (at one point my blood count went down to seven). The periods at one point were lasting 16 days and happening every three weeks. Now they've gone back to the classic 28-day cycle and, while still heavy, last just nine days (normal for me). I am so looking forward to the menopause... I deal with the PMT symptoms by drinking almond milk and mint tea (to stop bloating), eating sage with everything (sprinkling dried sage onto my meals or, when I can get them, eating sage leaves which taste bitter but seem to kill the pain) and, when all else fails, going to bed with a hot water bottle on my tummy. I also avoid salt, and dairy products (except live natural yoghurt which helps with the constipation - an awful side-effect of periods and iron tablets). I also try to do a bit of gentle exercise every day, even if it's just a walk. My doctor's receptionist gave me some great advice: "Be kind to yourself".
Thanks,
Did you solve your problem? I have the same as you.
