Listen up all the best i can tell people dont know how to follow directions. I'm your average construction worker and i drink one monster energy drink a day and on 3 occasions i have drunk two in a ten hour day. I havent had any stomach problems at all. These people might be allergic to something in the drink. Some of these people are drinking more than the recommended. But also has anybody considered that some of these stomach problems might be stress related the economy is rough right now and i dont hear anybody crying about that. Another thing follow directions. Also i didnt read about anybody going to the doctor and connecting the engery drinks to their problems. All the reseaerch i've done on monster energy drinks, sodas and coffee are worse for you then monster energy drinks. Also have yall considered the power of suggestion might come in play with some of these drinks.
I was experiencing problems similar. I'm a first year University student so energy drinks and alcohol are a big part of the things I consume and I started experiencing weird symptoms from consuming both in excess like constant hunger / feeling of nausea, excessive bloating after every meal, bad wind, constant need to empty my bowl immeadiately after eating anything other than probiotic yogurt. These symptoms persisted (and got worse) over the months, I then went to the doctors as I was experiencing bowl movements where my stools were very dark brown / black. I was diagonised with gastritis; where due to the amount of over consumption of acidic liquids my stomach lining was eroding. I was put on medication for a month which in effect stopped my stomach producing the acid it uses to break down food so the pH could be raised a bit. If your experiencing similar symptoms I strongly advise you to go to a doctor as ignoring it isn't going to make you get any better!
I don't know about all of these hypotheses, I have been drinking up to 4 cans of Rockstar a day almost every day for almost 3 years now and I have none of these issues whatsoever whether I drink them or not. Obviously there will be some digestion irritation like gas and some slightly uncomfortable bowel movements, when you drink as much as I do that's almost unavoidable. I can however speak to the oral damage done by consuming these acidic beverages, and there is a lot of research on that topic, but unless you actually go to the doctor I don't think there can be a solid link between cancers and acids, after all, your stomach makes its own acid constantly. It's the pH balance in your mouth that needs to be as neutral as possible, bacteria flourish when it gets acidic, so THAT may be worth looking into, perhaps the bacteria we all have in our gut naturally has bloomed and is causing issues.
I have tortoises as well and if they have sugars in their diet it will cause a bacterial bloom in their guts and can kill them quite easily, I would recommend looking into that instead of worrying about cancer. The fact is, besides high levels of caffeine and sugars, some energy drinks can be quite a benefit to your liver, kidneys, and brain. I've done quite a bit of my own research on it. Doctor visits don't usually cost more than $40 even without insurance, its worth it to be in good health, so if you're worried, go get checked.
So I'd like to give an update since I created this post years ago. I got a random email of a reply to the post and it made me re-read what I wrote. So I wrote my age was 36 then and now I'm 41. So that's 5 years ago I had this issue. So I've TOTALLY cut energy drinks out of my diet. I would have thought it impossible but I did it. My healthy lifestyle ambitions took me to all kinds of information and I found that by eliminating all of that taurine and arginine from my system relieved all of the bubbling and gurgling in my gut. Seriously I can't tell you the last time I've had this issue. i still use coffee for a kick here and there but I now recognize that natural caffeine from coffee has a lot benefits that I like and if I get the BGs now its because I have to go sh*t; which is awesome! But I did some other things too. For one I have finally beaten the battle of wheat and grains in my diet. Because after the bubble guts (BGs) issue I noticed that I was getting abs but still had bulge. So cutting the whole grain bread and all of that other sh*t THEY say is healthy for you. I've even cut out most dairy except for cheese and yogurt; has really really helped with midsection size like you wouldn't believe. Then my fanaticism didn't end there; I found out about dirt (DE-diatomaceous earth) which literally scrubs your insides to squeaky baby pink clean guts. Then I found out about Spirulina and it stinks like a dirty girl on a hot August day but hey it does the job. Now I still do all of the above but Lord help me; I bought a juicer. Now I'm juicing all kinds of sh*t!!! It most of it tastes nasty as dirty sour water with a touch of slime but hey I'm drinking it till I love it. stomach's getting flatter every day. Sh*t i'm wearing a spandex sweater that's so tight it looks I dressed in Now-n-Later wrapper. And I love it. Now I need psychological help . Add in some ACV (apple cider vinegar) tonics and problem solved. Basically put stuff in you that will make you sh*t more and kill the little unwanted bastards inside your gut and organs that are feeding off of you.
As we all have to say, I'm not a doctor so get checked out blah blah, f*****g blah; but I think you have worms or a virus going on. Just your symptoms alone (weight loss and lack of apetite) screams tape worms and/or liver flukes. Get some dirt and start drinking a tablespoon daily. See if that works that knot out of you. Drink lots of water when taking dirt so that it can really swish around inside you. But its tasteless, its cheap as dirt (real dirt) and it's like drinking a colonic (not really but hopefully you know what I mean). There's also Aggrivated Charcoal which I haven't tried yet but works the same as dirt (DE).

I just come across this post. Sorry if it is late.
i had been drinking energy drinks (mainly RB) every day for about ten years. It started off as a 250ml can a day and ended up being 1500ml a day.
After about 8 years I started to get pain near my belly button and just under my left rib cage. I went to the Doctor and he gave me Nexium and told me to stop drinking them. After a couple of days the pain disappeared so I kept drinking them. I stayed on the Nexium for a couple of years and increased my intake of energy drinks as I kept feeling more tired. For whatever reason I kept yawning more and more and I solely put it down to lack of sleep. Then one day, Bang, my entire stomach area from my throat down to my belly button felt like there was a fire inside. I could hardly breathe as my stomach had become so swollen that it was pushing up against my diaphragm. I walked about 3 metres and would be out of breath. (I am a gym junkie and normally extremely fit) I went to Doctor after Doctor trying to figure out what was wrong. I did test after test and the general consensus was a super stomach bug that they couldn't actually detect. i dropped about 15kg as I could hardly eat or drink anything then I found oe doctor who thought it was a condition called Gastritis. I was sent for a Gastroscopy and the results come back and I was diagnosed with Chemical Gastritis. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. There are various causes of Gastritis but mine was attributed to a chemical imbalance which I can only attribute to the energy drinks.
Two and a half years on, I have dramatically changed my diet and I am still slowly on the mend.
I still have pain now but it is only at the base of my stomach near my belly button.
in retrospect, i had a few warning signs that I ignored like when I was yawning, it wasn't because I was tired but due to my stomach slowly swelling up and pushing against my diaphragm. about 2 years before it went pop, I started sleeping on my stomach as when it started to swell, it was really uncomfortable to sleep on my back as I couldn't really breath properly. The Nexium masked most of the pain somehow which I believe it got so bad.I am sure energy drinks are ok in moderation and if someone reads this and it can somehow prevent someone going through what I went through then writing this was all worthwhile.
just thought id contribute to this im currently undergoing stomach and kidney problems and we are thinking its the years of energy drinks that contributed to it because other then them im fairly active go to the gym multiple times a week and get outside frequently im having crippling stomach pain to the point im blacking out from the pain and its a daily thing not just every once and awhile. id like to note im also only 21.
