heartbeat in ear

I have a heart beat sound in my right ear that I can feel pulsating at times. It started as a whooshing sound so I went to my family Dr. that said it was an ear infection. He gave me an antibiotic after it only got worse and turned into a heart beat sound that I can hear at night. I went to an ent and a neurosurgeon who sent me for a cat scan and even a cerebral angiogram which also came back negative. This drives me crazy!

I've been hearing what I thought was my heartbeat in my ears and ringing sound for about 6 months, it comes and goes. When it goes, I'm fine but then it comes back and I'm miserable. My regular MD referred me to a nurologist who ordered an MRI which came out ok, then I was referred to an ENT who said he saw nothing abnormal.
I monitor my blood pressure daily so it doesn't seem to be connected to that. The ENT told me the ringing in the ears is quite common and there's not a lot you can do about it. I can't accept that something so dibilitating is "quite common". Sometimes when I'm hearing it, it's as if my heart is skipping a beat (if in fact it is my heartbeat I'm hearing) but I've had tests (cardiologist) and they say it isn't.
I spend WAY too much time online trying to self diagnose which probably isn't a good thing but when everybody I see tells me they have no clue what it is, what do I do?
oddly this started about the same time I was placed on meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

I've been hearing or feeling my heart beat in my right ear now for over a year off and on. It keeps me up at night, usually when I am already stressed out. I've mentioned it to my GP, but he doesn't seem too concerned. Perhaps I should make it more of an issue. I should have been asleep hours ago and can't get there. Any tips on how to make it be quiet to I can sleep?

I'm getting the same issue with my left ear. It throbs for 5 seconds every 15-30mins. It sounds similar to someone flicking their finger close to your ear. I had blood samples taken for something else 2 weeks ago and over the past few days I've managed to get some kind of mouth ulcer or infection behind my right hand wisdom tooth. I'm gonna get it checked out for an ear infection. btw I'm a M23.
It's interesting reading everyone else's experiences with this. Mine started in July and has come and gone. I am getting into my doctor soon for a routine check up so I will definitely be asking her about this.
I'm a bit paranoid right now because I have a friend of the family that just found out she has brain cancer. The idea of a tumor is very frightening as I have four small children.
I do have TMJ though so I'm guessing that is the most likely cause.

I have had a swooshing and heartbeat in my ears for probably five years now. I have had been to two different ENT doctors and both tell me my hearing is fine. One suggested an MRI which I did and that came back fine. In the meantime, nine months ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have completed treatments and as time goes on the noise gets softer and then louder. Stress and exertion makes it worse. I can place pressure on my neck and the pulsating lessens but it's still there. Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy when no one can find anything wrong. I had a cholesterol test and it came back fine. I too am concerned if it could be something in my neck, ear, blood, heart, arteries, etc. I have done a lot of reading about pulsatile tinnitus but still no answers. Please give me some advice and should I be concerned?
Just had to add to the comments. Probably close to 15 years ago I went to my GP about fluttering sound in my right ear. He said not to worry about it - something about oversensitivity. Anyway, the sound still persists when heavy trucks go by or other deep sounds can cause it as well, usually at night. Now, this same ear has this heartbeat and wooshing sound in it. When I bend over, it is scary because of the wooshing sound. I also have a headache on that side which includes my eye. This eye experienced an aura about a year ago (I since found out that was an opthamalgic migraine). The whole side of my head feels sore and tender. I believe it is my sinuses but my GP is reluctant to do anything about it. Should I be worried? From the sounds of it, testing usually doesn't result in any findings.
Been hearing the same heartbeat sound in my left ear for a year now. Got nervous last week cos it seems to get louder than usual, kept me up some nights and just felt generally not my usual self, was feeling tired and extra grumpy, so I went to my doctor and was told IT was palpitations likely caused by Very High Blood Pressure > So anyway , I was given a presccription for the blood pressure and he sent me out for Chest X-ray, EKG, and a series of Blood Tests. Will keep you posted for the results.
I feel the same too. I tend to hear my hearbeat when I am laying on my sides during sleep. Actually the only way that I can sleep is on my back where I don't hear my heartbeat. Is that the same for you?
I, too have a heart beat in my ear. It started about 3 weeks ago and it's driving me crazy. It was mild at first, but now it is constant and very very loud with a wooshing sound. I can place a couple of fingers just below my ear on the jawline and apply pressure and it goes away completely. I checked my blood pressure and it's borderline. I'm overweight, so it has always been on the border of being high. I do have a wisdom tooth that has been half way in for about 5 years and recently it started moving again and I think it might be the pressure from the tooth on the artery that runs close the ear. Has anyone every heard of this happening. I am getting the tooth taken out next week and I am hoping that this will solve the problem, but my dentist doesn't seem to think the two are related. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If this doesn't fix the problem, should I see a hearing doctor or heart doctor? If anyone knows about a heart beat in the ear being associated with an impacted wisdom tooth, please let me know. Thanks so much! Woosh Woosh Woosh... in Alabama
I am having and have a had a throbbing sensation in the left side of my neck. Like I feel my heart beating. I am off balance and end up with a severe migraine after several hours of pain. I have been to neurologists and neurosurgeons, general practice doctors. I had an MRI done, and they say they dont see anything. I just went to a Ear, nose, and throat doctor. They ar going to do a VNG balance test. But, didn't really see anything alarming. I have had this condition for almost a year-DAILY. Some days worse than other. I have been referred to Wake Forest Medical Center and I am awating an appointment. I have soooo sick of being this way. I don't understand why "no" doctor has been able to find out what's wrong !!!!
I have had this problem of whooshing in my ear for about a year now. Went to an ENT and his diagnosis was that is was my body's own way of letting me know that I was still alive..... funny, I think not. It drives me totally crazy sometimes. I never can have a moment of silence. I have no idea what to do except pull a Vincent van Gogh and cut off my ear LOL. Seriously, I have no idea what to do. If I push down on my neck, just below my ear it will slightly get softer, but I can't sit like that all day. Does anyone know what actually causes it or what to do to get rid of it? Or am I just going to have to learn to live with this?
