heartbeat in ear

I have a heart beat sound in my right ear that I can feel pulsating at times. It started as a whooshing sound so I went to my family Dr. that said it was an ear infection. He gave me an antibiotic after it only got worse and turned into a heart beat sound that I can hear at night. I went to an ent and a neurosurgeon who sent me for a cat scan and even a cerebral angiogram which also came back negative. This drives me crazy!

I had whooshing in the ear too off and on lately and I just took 2 aspirin and it went away. I checked my blood pressure earlier today and it was high so I think it's blood pressure related for me. No more whooshing. :-D

I've had whooshing in my ear for almost 2 months now. It's just about driving me mad. At first my ear was also plugged up really bad so I went to get it flushed out but then it still wooshed. So I went back to the doctor and got some antibiotics.(It looked like an ear infection) I'm almost done those and still it's whooshing away. It's not nearly as loud as it was though or am I just getting used to it???? When I press down a certain spot on my neck I can't hear it but then I feel it pounding in my head!(which is worse) also when I tilt my head to the right side it will stop(but again head pounding) what the heck is this???????? >:(

I have been hearing and feeling a heartbeat in my ear on and off now for two months, oddly enough it showed up shortly after a hefty dose of antibiotics I was recieving for a finger infection . these antibiotics were administered intravieneously. Could there be a connection?
I have had a whooshing sound like a heartbeat in my head and the blood sometimes rushes to my head when I bend down. I think it is connected to the fact I am recently diagnosed as having an under active thyroid which messes up the metabolism. I have read internet reports that symptons of under active thyroid include hearing problems. I am hoping that the medication (thyroxine) will have an effect on the noises, which are much worse at night and in the morning, when I am lying down. I too have been kept awake for hours at night listening to the noise, driving me mad! No-one else on this forum has connected it to thyroid problems -other symptoms are fast weight gain (because your metabolism slows down) and being depressed - have you guys with similar whooshing sounds in your ears had a blood test to see if your thyroid is normal? I was hoping someone else might have linked the whooshing to thyroid so I could compare - but may be this is an angle that might help you.
I am amazed at the number of people who are suffering from this problem. I have been hearing my heartbeat in my left ear for the past 6-7 months.
I have had hearing tests, MRI, Catscan and all came back normal. I've also had blood work done, checked my thyroid and again everything came back normal.
My ENT said I will just have to learn to live with it. For the moment I've been trying to deal with it as best as I can. Sometimes it's not that loud at night and sometimes it's extremely loud. I dread going to bed as I never know what kind of night I am in for. During the day, I don't hear it at all because of the "outside noises". Every morning I wake up and hope that it will disappear as quickly as it came and so far every morning it is still there.
I'm contemplating whether I should go for a second opinion or just try and deal with it.
Anyway just wanted to share my story, good luck to all of you.
I'm starting to get these whooshing sounds, as well. I only get them when I'm straining or sometimes when I'm leaning towards my left and staying that way. It's synchronized with my heartbeat. Haven't been to the doctor or anything so I can't tell you what's causing on, but judging from this thread, it could be something serious, or just nothing at all.
Hello, i also suffer from this and being a 16 year old its quite confusing,
at first i thought it was my heart, as my heart also starts beating faster for no apparent reason and you can hear it and find it harder to breathe, but that only lasts for a second or 2. lately ive been hearing heart beats in my ear
whenever i touch it. but its not always its just again about 3 seconds about twice everyday.
i hope its jsut an ear infection waiting to be cured with some anti biotics, i will get back to you, all if this forum is still an interest in people, and tell you how i go.
I have been hearing blood rushing in my ear for two years now. It is getting louder and scarier. It happens only when i lay on my stomach. I also get this weird vision problem with it. It looks the middle of my visual field glazes over for a few seconds until the rushing subsides. The only thing that has changed in the last two years is that i gained about 25 pounds. I am hoping that is the cause and trying hard to lose the weight.
I cant find any literature that addresses this, and i have no medical insurance. . I would appreciate your input on this.
Thanx
I too hear my own pulse in Bothears. Always at reat ,especially if I am trying to read.If a fan is on in the room I am in it will maginify in my ears. I have definite hearing problem when there are certain tones ie: very low, loud noises, vibrations. Bothers me to no end. I try to avoid situations that would put me in that type of arena.
I have my ears checked, the whole nine yards. It is definitely related to the pulse. I have low blood pressure am stressed a bit,but other than that nothing else that relates to this. Sometimes I take something and put it in my ear. Like a wad of cotton. I only put it in one ear and I can no longer hear it. It softens so mych and any "air" sounds that was hearing are gone also. Just wanted you to know. Oh, A large wad,not anything that could get stuck or in to far. Not , a good idea.
I just read other articles regarding this thumping in the ears. I had to look this up because I thought I was losing my mind. %-) Although the problem still exist, I feel much better to know that Im not alone. When I first incountered this problem. I thought I was hearing a train so I looked outside. I thought my son was playing loud music so I went into his room. Talk about losing your mind. I put my hands over my ears and realized it was the thumping sound of my heart. o.O I have been having sinus problems, do you think it's the fluid draining in my ears ?
seems like a lot of people with problems and no one with solutions or answers
I just found this forum because I just wrapped up some hard physical activity and yup, you guessed it... my eardrums are throbbing as my heart beats
as far as getting wax buildup.... when I was in 16, I started having problems with hearing in my right ear
went to the doctor who put some drops into my ear and then used one of those dental water picks to flush out what ended up being a WAX BALL the size of a peanut M & M
I use that comparison because I thought it was so cool that I had it wrapped up in some kleenex to show my friends and then promptly forgot it was in my pocket
the same pocket I ended up emptying a bag of M&M's into... and I ended up eating a handful of them all coated with the crumbs of the now broken up ball of superwax

and now... back to the topic at hand
SOMEONE GET THIS THROBBING OUT OF MY HEAD... IS THIS AN IMPENDING HEART ATTACK???
I am so glad I found this site. This noise is driving me crazy. I have been in two rear end collisons twice in 6 months. After I was hit the second time, I have been experiencing this heartbeat noise. At first I thought it was a water drip in my bathroom, because I only heard it in my bedroom/bathroom area. My husband thought I was going nuts. I CANT SLEEP. then I realized it was the same as my heart rythum. I can only hear out of my right ear and sleep on my right side - noise free UNTIL NOW.
I will be making an appointment with the doc come Monday! Thanks for sharing the info.
i have also been having this problem for about 2 and a half years. it is driving me crazy!!! i am 17 and have never had a problem with my ears. i dont even listen to music too loudly. after reading all of this i am getting worried. i am going to the doctor next week and i hope she does something. i just cant stand it anymore. it is obstructing my hearing. i have to ask people to repeat things all of the time and its just getting in the way of my life.... sometimes if i press my tounge on the roof of my mouth, it relieves it a little bit, but only for a few seconds. its in my left ear and gets really really loud if i tilt my head to the right, however if it press my left ear against my shoulder, it goes away; but i cant walk around for the rest of my life with my ear on my shoulder. lol
I feel like I've foud a whooshing ear support group!
I keep trying to explain it to people, but no one seems to understand - not even one doctor I saw, who basically wrote it off as "people sometimes hear their pulse".
I've been hearing it for over a year now. It seems to come and go and its not painful. I did develop an ear infection last year, which was treated, but the whooshing eventually came back.
It only affects me at night in my left ear and I have to position myself in weired ways so that it's soft enough that I can sleep.
I am worried that it's something serious, like an aneurism but I only have insurance from my college, which isn't that good, so I haven't gotten any tests done.
All of your feedback has been very helpful, but scary too! I hope that something concrete can be found soon so we can all be whoosh free!
I too started yesterday with the heartbeat in the ear. It is definitely worse when I lay down at night. Thought I would never go to sleep. I am trying to figure out which doctor I need to go to. Are there any suggestions. My heartbeat speeds up at time. I hope this doesn't last long.
