I've had the pulsing in my right ear for two and a half years now. It started after flu like symptoms and has never gone. It has been constant. I can relieve the pulsing temporarily by putting pressiure over the right artery. The ENT Surgeon checked hearing which was fine. I had a CT which was clear of tumours. I don't have any other side effects other than being very aware of a heavy hearbeat. If I drive my car, exercise or go to the beach the sound gets overidden so I find some relief in these activities. Good Luck everyone. It's really irritating, especilly at night.

I have had the pulsing in my ear for about 7 to 8 months. I'm not giving up and just living with it. I can't concentrate at work, I can't sleep at night, it has taken over. I've seen 4 doctors and they have found a few things that could be causing it for me, maybe one of these will work for you...Check your thyroid function. Also how are your sinuses. My pulsing is in my left ear and they found that my left sinuses is completely impassable. Right now I'm going down that pathway to see if I can get that fixed. Also TJM (Degeneration in the Jaw). I also have a thinning in the bones in my ear. As sad as it is I guess i'm fortunate I have four avenues I can try to cure this problem. I just wanted to throw those Ideas out there maybe they can help you out!

I have also had the same annoying sound in my right ear for about 2 1/2 years now. It's funny because the sound came as soon as I brought home my kitten now from the humane society. My husband thought the cat had something to do with the noise I hear in my right ear but I doubt it. I've been prescribed many types of antibotics and ear drops but nothing worked. I also had a hearing test done which was completely normal. They wanted to do an MRI but I had to cancel the appointment. For a while, the annoying swoshing/pulsing/heartbeat noise went away but has come back. It seems to be less irritating when I'm at work but when I get home, it's extra loud. I can still hear everything but now I have an extra sound that does not go away. It goes away when I apply pressure to my jugglar vein but starts up again as soon as I let up on the preasure. I also have the mucus build up at night when I'm laying down but that used to always happening the winter time but goes away when the season changes. This year, it have't stopped yet

I feel almost overjoyed to find all these other people who have the same problem that has been plaguing me for almost 2 yrs. My symptoms are the same--pulsing in my left year, can press on the jugular and it stops, it's taking over my life! I see, though, there are several avenues to explore. I've explored many already. I have seen 3 chiropractors, 2 ENT's, my oncologist, a GP, and 2 dentists. I have had the MRI/MRA which didn't show anything significant. I've had the hearing tests--my hearing is fine. One ENT suggested lowering my BP, which hasn't worked. He suggested maybe a glomus tumor, but thought that should have shown up on the MRI/MRA. One dentist thought it was my wisdom teeth, the other didn't think they were related, but I had them removed anyway. Every chiropractor said he could fix it, but none have. One, who is also a nutritionist, prescribed like a complex vitamin C. My current chiropractor has been very helpful (we've even fixed other issues along the way), but he's been urging me to see a neurologist, and I think I will now after reading all these postings. I have had the flem, which I thought was nothing. Lately, I've had a lot of sinus pressure, which the chiropractor fixed for about 3 hrs. I found along the way that I do clench my teeth at night, but a splint didn't make the noise go away. I also have a lot of tightness in my jaw, so possibly TMJ? I am 27 yrs old, and I've had Hodgkins disease. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else has had a lymphoma or serious sinus infection. Maybe they are linked. Thanks to everyone for posting. I feel like quiet nights are in my future!

FYI: I recently looked at the results of my MRI/MRA and it stated "Empty Sella Morphology." I took this to my GP, who didn't get too excited over it. I'm not sure what to do next, but know I have to at least find an answer. I really wonder about the empty sella syndrome, especially now that my MRI stated that it looks like it. I guess a neurologist is the next step.

for 2 days already i have been having this on my right ear and it comes in and out of my days and its so annoying i feel like ripping my ear out. I should see a doctor but from what i have heard it seems a waste of time unless i suggest to the doctor what you guys have said. I really hope that i don't have this for the rest of my life and that it goes away.

I have been trying to track down my problem for a year now and finally feel comfortable about the answer I received yesterday. After seeing the empty sella morphology on my MRI report, I really wanted to see a neurologist, and that is who I consulted with yesterday. She told me the empty sella problem was really a non-issue, unless I was having a hard time getting pregnant or other horomonal issues (I am having a hard time getting pregnant, so that might be the problem there), but she is confident I have Meniere's Disease, the symptoms of which are hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus and fullness in the ear. She told me I have an atypical form of Meniere's and after looking up Meniere's on the internet (www.menieresinfo.com), I feel even better about this diagnosis. It is not life threatening, but can cause hearing loss. There is no cure, but it can be treated. Right now, all I want is the pulsing in my ear to go away, so knowing that end is possible almost makes me want to cry. Meniere's is fairly uncommon (0.2/100 people), but I wonder if this might not be a problem for many people. The neurologist said it's an ear, nose and throat issue, so perhaps consult with an ENT if you find you have these three or four symptoms. Nausea and vomiting can result from the vertigo, but are not symptoms of Meniere's. Since I'm trying to get pregnant, I won't be able to start any medication (meds I read about were things like methotrexate, prednisone and histamines, among others), but just being able to say "This is what the problem is" feel so good! Good luck to you!

I am now on my third trip to the neurologist. MRI, CT scan, and spinal tap have all been done and I am waiting for an answer. After the spinal tap, the sound was gone for 2 days and now it's back so here's a new symptom! I was misdiagnosed with Meniere's. Be careful w/drs. they give the Meniere's diagnosis out like candy when they tire of dealing with you! I'll update a diagnosis as soon as I get one. I am praying for all you. This noisy ear business is insanity.

about two months ago i had a huge lump in my neck. it was really sore and after three days it disappeared. a week later i got the stomach flu. two days into the flu i had a massive headache with a sound in my right ear. three days long. i took advil, tylonel, every 4 hours then 3 hours. and it wouldn't go away. after day three i decided to take claritin. guess what. the headache went away.... the sound in the right ear went away. it came back a few days later... so i found myself taking claritin everyday, but after a month the sound didn't go away. i made an appointment. the dr gave me allegra d.. guess what sound got worse after two weeks. went back, had an MRI done. nothing found. oh the hearing test was good too. went back again, requested anti biotics, so now. i will take that.. i think i am going to go back to claritin. try that. i have frequent sinus infections. i'll let you guys know.

Hi....im suprised to know that we are suffering the same problem here..i have been suffering this hearing of pulse in my right ear for years....there was one point of time when it stops for almost a year and came back...i couldn't explain to anyone how it sound like...its not a ringing sound...when i placed my fingers on my right hand side of my throat, the sound follows exactly like my pulse that is beating...i have seen alot of doctors and ENT specialist..none could determine what was the cause...first they said it was a ear infection...gave me the same medications like what you've got which didn't help at all....at times, i have a bad pain in my right side of my head...its the inner part...doctors says it could be migraine in which i know its not...coz what im hearing now is exactly the sound of a pulse....it never stops...i asked for MRI or CT Scan which none of them feels that its neccessary...some even suggested surgery without being able to confirm the cause of what im suffering now....i dont know what to do now....

Hi, Add me to the list. I have the same symptoms and my primary care physician is totally clueless as to what is happening. I have started the round of test that all of you seem to have had. Ultrasound of the caroids, MRI, MRA. I am now on my way to the cardiologist and neurogist for I'm sure a series of more expensive test. Good to know that I am not totally crazy :-)

I wonder if this has anything to do with cell phone/bluetooth use???

I've been experiencing the sound of what seems to me blood rushing in my left ear for about a year now. I finally made a doctor's appointment to try to find out what it is...
When I sat down and thought about things that have accompanied the sound...I noticed that headaches have gotten worse...I seem to always have a dull ache/heaviness in the lower part of my head...but when I get a headache now, it puts me down for an entire day...it hurts to move my eyes at times.
My hearing in my left ear is a little off, too. I can still hear fine...but it's not as clear as my right ear...I can't really explain it...it's not quite like being in a tunnel or an echo...but similar? I can definitiley tell a difference between my left ear and right ear.
Jaw pain has also become a problem. I actually had an incident several months ago where my jaw popped out of joint...and it took about an hour for me to get it back in place! Every time I opened my mouth it would pop back out...it's done it only once since then...but it still feels sore more often than not. My dentist recommended mouth guards because he suspects I'm grinding my teeth at night...but I notice that it's only since the ear problem started.
My balance is a little off...I get light-headed pretty easily...sometimes when I get up and start to walk, I feel like my head is going to explode.
So I finally have a doctor's appointment this Thursday...hopefully it's nothing more than wax build up or an inner ear infection...

Wow I was beginning to think something was really wrong with me. I have had this blood whooshing in my right ear for about a year. It first started only at night and in the morning and like others I can press on mt carotid artery and it will stop, but as soon as I let go it is like a rushing sound. The best way to describe it is it sounds like a sonogram of a baby heartbeat. It drives me nuts. I actually have to press on my neck sometimes to hear something on the t.v. or when someone is talking to me from far. I have seen a Dr. and she has no clue. I do see a chiropractor 3x a week and I am hoping he can give me some relief. : javascript:emoticon('8-|')
