I found that cotton batten in the ear for a short while helped and also ear wax removal
helped. Stress is a major factor for worsening this problem. I have had this trouble off and on in life and usually it will leave. When I am distracted, it goes away but does return. It has been there off and on for 3 months so far and when I get annoyed, it worsens. So when I deal with stress, that is a big help. I hope this can help someone.

I have the same problem, have seen the doc countless times and each time he tells me my ears are fine, my blood pressure is fine and he can't see what the problem is.
It drives me crazy at times, sometimes it's only in an evening, others it's from the minute I wake till the minute I go to sleep, so very annoying. The only thing I've found to help is putting pressure on my main artery under the ear and running up the neck. The noise over the years has caused me to be partially deaf in the left ear.
I guess it's just something I continue to live with.

this can be caused by tight scm musle that put pressue on the main arteries and pull on the jaw... see a chiropractor it worked for me
I have the same thing as you're describing. At night I get a really strong pulse in my right ear and sometimes in my left ear. I'm quite worried because some times I get dizzy and have headaches aswell. I'm scared that I have intercranial pressure or whatever its called. I'm only 16 and I've had the pulse for about a year now, I only sleep around 4 hours a night because of it and it's getting progressively worse. Should I go to the doctor?
So I am reading all these posts. I have only been experiencing the pulsating sound in my right ear for about 2 months, thinking that i had wax in my ear that needed to be drained, to my surprise it wasnt that. I had a catscan w/contrast done yesturday and go for the results tomorrow. Lookin at these posts i dont have confidence that they will be able to pin point my problem. I give all those that have been dealing with this for years credit cause i feel like i am going to lose my mind. Its so annoying and when the pulsating is strong i can hardly hear out of my right ear. I was holding my nose and blowing out to relieve some of the annoyance but that is no longer working. Keeping my fingers crossed that the ENT center will be able to help me tomorrow cause i cant handle much more of this. I am happy tho that I am not the only one having these problems, i thought for a minute that it was just me, hearing things!!
To the person with crippling headaches that is bothered by loud colors, etc., I have the same thing, plus the ear pulsing, due to vestibular damage in my left ear. My inner ear was damaged by a virus, and now I have all of these symptoms, which did start with spinning and vertigo but now are more subtle but still very debilitating. Basically, one inner ear has shut down (which I saw in the results of a VNG test), and my brain needs to compensate for relying on just one inner ear for balance and so forth. The compensation process causes the headaches, as your brain is working to adjust itself and it's very hard on it. But apparently it can compensate much more quickly with VRT (vestibular rehabilitation therapy). There are videos on YouTube about how to do VRT, but it's best to see a physical therapist. I have an appointment with a VRT therapist next week. What I have is called "uncompensated labyrinthitis," which merely means that my inner ear has been damaged and my brain has not compensated yet. The prognosis for VRT is very good. People who feel drunk, dizzy, and have these searing headaches can get back to 100% by doing these exercises daily. Any type of activity is good. Don't avoid sports. Force yourself through the bad feelings, do everything that makes you sick, and your brain will learn to adjust. I've also found that hot herbal baths, ginger tea, and neck massages help with the symptoms for now.

Im have this same problem... it drives me nuts... It started in 08 when I was experiencing a really bad 3 month long Migraine episode... there was pain with the noise at first which of course only made the migraines more unbearable and anyone who has ever had one knows that it's the kind of pain that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy's mother! When I'm not migraining the noise will come at random times like maybe every few weeks and last for a few days. No pain though. I am going to make an appointment with the ENT clinic ..prayerfully this will help me to be able to control it. Isn't it weird how you can stop it temporarily by pressing on your neck... Wonder what that's all about?
I have had the pulsebeat in my ears for about 7 or 8 years now. It is in exact sync with heartbeat and occurs 98% when I lay down to sleep. I have had MRI and Cts to no avail. I have alleviated the problem with ear plugs at nite. Seems to be more noticeable when moisture in the air or is soon to come. Ambien is the only thing that helps me thru. I have no other health problems or pain, which leads me to believe that somewhere an Auditory nerve is near the Carotid Artery or some such thing.
I have this pulsating in my right ear and it is driving me crazy. MY ENT doctor said it is a estatian tube in my middle ear is the problem. He gave me exercises to do like hold my nose and blow to put pressure on the nose, then you swallow and then yawn. It will move the eustatian tube in the ear. See if it works for you. you have to do it several times during the day and 10 times with each session. It hasn't worked for me yet but you might try it.
SAME PROBLEM
I am so glad to hear that some has this same problem as I do. Not that I want anyone to experiance this but I thought that I was going crazy and my daughter would say i dont hear anything. I have been having this problem in my right ear for about 4 months. And I can now believe that is my putitary Gland because the doctor told me it was enlarged. Now I will go back to the doctor to see if they can do something about this gland because this sound is driving me absolutly crazy thanks for sharing......
my pulsing only coms when I go to bed. Usually. However, lately I have checking against a lowering of barometric pressure. That seems to trigger it also. I use soft ear plugs at nite and it helps considerablly. Google Barometric Pressure or Atmospheric pressure and it's effect on humans. Very informative.
I am suffering this now. I can't stand it, my personality has drastically changed. I can't sleep. Noone understands. And reading all of this is a relief as well as a terror. I cannot continue with this pulsing in my ear. Oh God, Please help me.
Just wondering, do any of you take depressions or anxiety medications? I have the same horrible thing going on and read that a side affect can be this. I'd rather quit the RX and not hear this. It's so maddening. . and yes those who have not experienced it really have no idea. I take yoga and it throws my balance off so bad, can't sleep, concentrate---mines all day, every day. Seen the dr for the past 8 months or more and de-cluttered my home of dust mites..that was his first idea. Spent near $400 on random stuff to help that time. Then it was allergy medications, now a nasal spray--which I think may help, but only from time to time. No insurance so an ENT seems out of the picture, for now at least. I'm sorry you all have to deal with this, it really is horrible....
I don't believe it is any medications that cause it. I am nearly 70 yrs. old and in perfect health except for the pulsating. I had a book on The Brain and seems there is an auditory nerve fiber that is possibly near the carotoid artery which brgings blood to the brain. Nothing to be done for it. I have had various scans and mri imaging to no avail.
