I was also born with 3 kidneys. I have had no issues either. Until it causes me issues I'll keep them all

I also have three functioning kidneys.  My left side has two kidneys, complete with their own ureters, which merge into one just before the bladder.  The lower kidney likes to produce not kidney stones, but boulders.  I get sizes very difficult to pass.  The average size for kidney stones is from four to six milimeters, and my largest one to date is 23mm in size.  9, 12, 13mm in size is usually average for me and usually on average about 10 stones at a time, I'm amazed I don't rattle when I walk!

Medical instuments are not designed for people like me, so it makes it difficult to perform lithotripsy.  They just do what they can.  In the 15 years I've been dealing with this, I've never had issues with the upper left kidney, until now, it's never produced stones.  But, now it's gone over to the dark side, because the dark side has cookies!!  So, this last bout really sucked, stones in both kidneys, which meant two stents in place.  One is uncomforatable enough, but two.... sheesh...

Having extras is not always a good thing....

Medical instruments aren't designed for people like us who have 3 kidneys and suffer from stones. My urologist can go in and perform lithotripsy, but when the stones are in little pockets his tools can't get to, it can make for a very uncomfortable time. He just does the best he can. Drink a lot of water, and I mean a lot. Stay away from sodas and power ades. Severely limit your sodium intake, and watch you protein intake from meat. I take medications daily and will have to the rest of my life. It doesn't stop the production of stones, but hopefully it keeps them small enough where I can pass them on my own and not have to go to the hospital. I produce boulders, not stones, and lots of them, my largest was 23mm in size. It's something my system does. Good luck.

If you are producing stones, there is no way they'd allow you to donate it. It has joined the enemy!

I'm a 55 year old woman an just found out today that I have 3 kidneys. I have had alot of stomach problems in the past and several exploretory surgerys but this was never found now I'm having alot of problems with a high white blood count my Dr is sending me to a specialist to check for loupis I 'm just wondering if this 3rd kidney might have something to do with all the infection in my body. I dont have a lot of kidney infections but I do have a lot of lower back pain and i really do not pee much i have had to take meds in the past to help me empty my bladder. Any comments would be helpful. Justwant to feel better I'm tired all the time and really just feel bad every day now.

I am amazed at how many people actually have this!I was born with 2 1/2 kidneys and one blockage in the "tube" but all is funcitioning well so far. My cousin has 3 kidneys and has had nothing but problems growing up but now is ok. We are both in our 40 ies now and doing ok. My "problem" was also discovered, like with many here it seems, by accident. I went in for a lung photo and they could tell on that scan something was not right with both sides the kidneys and there the whole 3 days of scans etc started.Doctor here told me not to do anything, surgery wise, unless the situation becomes bad so still going strong with 2 1/2 kidneys and a major blockageDInteresting to read all your stories!

I am 21 and found out that I had three kidneys when I was in 1st grade. I kept going to the doctor before that because I wasn't able to be potty trained. I had the extra kidney removed when it was found and now I can actually hold it in but I do pee more often than normal people..

My mother had 3 kidneys that went bad when she was 35 due to illness. I knew that my son and I had extra ureters, I also knew I had to have the septum removed from my double vagina during birth of 1st child. Today, I too found out that I have 3 kidneys(was having pain) and also 2 endometriums in uterus. I have a feeling this was passed to sisters as well because we all have kidney stones that form in double right kidneys.
