I'm surprised your doctor never referred you to a specialist.I was also born with 3 kidneys. I'm now 63. But when I was almost 6 I had a second kidney infection. I was referred to a specialist who immediately did exploratory surgery at Boston Children's Hospital and discovered I had 3 kidneys, also known as a horseshoe kidney. The infection was so bad that one and one third had to be removed. I guess he would have removed one reguardless since the third kidney wasn't functioning properly, evidenced by the infections. After the surgery my kidneys have never given me one ounce of trouble in my entire life. I hope this fact gives you some encouragement. I would definitely find another doctor and ask him to refer you to a specialist.
My daughter had the same. We went to UCSF Mission Bay hospital and had one of the ureters plugged and resected into a Y with the functioning ureter. Problem solved! (The third was attached at the back and bottom of the bladder.) 18 years of bladder and kidney infections are over and my daughter can look forward to clear skin finally!
Warm wishes for good health!

hi i need one kidney . did you donate it ? i will pay for it .
I hope you have been to see your doctor by now
As a child I always wet myself but had no sensation to pee. I became a master at tying my jacket around my waist at school to cover wet spots. However I wasn't a bed wetter. My mother took me to many doctors and all dismissed it saying i would grow out it. This went on through grade school. Then one morning, when I was in 4th grade, I vividly remember my precious grandmother declaring enough was enough and she was going to get it taken care of. She got the yellow pages phone book, started scrolling through the pages and making phone calls. The next thing I remember was being at a doctors office and going to get xrays. I was finally diagnosed with double left kidneys! The extra one would drip and I had no sensation. The doctor scheduled me for surgery right away, which was a great success. The wetting stopped immediately. He removed half and said I may need surgery later in life to remove the other half. I am now 46 years old with 4 children and have never had any residual complications with that extra half. I dont know if you will see this response since your post is a over a year old but if you haven't resolved this issue please take your daughter to a urologist and dont stop until you find a solution.
On another note I to suffered from many UTI's throughout my life. They dimisnished substantially once I stopped drinking soda (Pepsi and coke cola). I still drink alot of coffee but for whatever reason the soda was a huge UTI trigger for me. Also ladies remember to pee after sex thats helpful in keeping UTI's at bay.

I have 3 kidneys a normals size one on my right and 2 little ones on my left, I’m getting horrendous pin and my doctors aren’t doing anything about it? Help! What should I do?
I also have 3 kidneys and I had to learn when I was 7. Now I’m 9 and I hate it that my mom and dad told me that at that young age. My mom told a friend that the doctors said TONS of things wrong with me.
I know this is late but I too have 3 functioning kidneys each with working void system. I Was A Bed Wetter. Now I know one of my kidneys doesnt empty simultaneously. A kidney function test with contrast is the only way to see the 3rd kidney & void system
Hi they can be related, insist that your dr does a bladder scan, it’s very uncomfortable but can be helpful, I was on medication for three years whilst they got the problem under control, now this are relatively normal, it only now happens when my three kidneys have an infection
I have three kidneys. You should be fine.
I was born with 3 kidneys. My mother also had 3 kidneys. Her's were fine. Mine were not. I went to Virginia Mason in Seattle and talked to a Nephrologist/Urologist. After 37 years of constant debilitating pain and infections, they found that the smaller 3rd kidney was dying. I had it removed and life has gotten so much better. I would recommend seeing a specialist. My local ER got tired of seeing me all the time and put me on the watch list for habitual drug users. I was never so embarrassed.
You need to see a urologist.
My Granddaughter was born with 3 kidneys. She was diagnosed at 7 months. She is now 7 years & has never had any issues. The doctors found it while doing X-rays after her heart surgery. Doctor said it’s rare but rarely can cause problems. Those problems would be increased infections & or kidney stones. If you’re not having any issues then your doctor is not concerned. If you’re having medical problems then you need to bring it to your urologists attention.
Maybe this person wasn't having problems so no need to see a specialist. I'm 57 and found out about 15 years ago that I had 3. I've never had any problems with having a third. I've been extremely healthy most of my life.
I've read how people with 3 have problems or on certain diets. That's too bad, maybe there's those of us that are just a bit more rare with not having any medical issues. Rare I guess.

There's no reason to take any out. As long as he's healthy. I'm living proof of it. I found out about 15 years ago that I have 3 ! They have never caused me any problems. Sure there's people that with having 3 have problems. But till then don't worry about it. You and your family thank God and take care.
