I have two child sized kidneys on the left, one adult size kidney on the right. I've had multiple bouts of kidney stones for the last 30 years, since I was in my 20's. I have had lithotripsy (sp?) multiple times. It seems to get harder on my body every time. It's supposed to be an out patient procedure but it never is for me.
The doc says my two small kidneys "aren't talking to each other anymore". Never went for the additional tests and now I am going through another round of stones.
I found out that I now also have gallstones! Double bonus score! I have a no salt, limited calcium and low protein diet yet I have high cholesterol. My BMI is 22 and I walk 5 miles a day.
I need to go back to the doctor but I don't think I can afford to be out of work for the time it would take to recover. I have insurance but will I have to dip into retirement savings if I have an operation. If I don't have surgery will I live to see retirement?
Sometimes it sucks to live alone.

I just found out today that I as well have 3 kidneys. Does this make us X-Men? I found out dealing with kidney stones. Could this be a cause?

I have three fully functional kidneys and the only problem I've ever had is when I got a kidney infection it put me in the hospital. Otherwise, I never had any other problems so, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You'll be fine.

In what ways did you find Jan de Vries helped you? I've heard amazing things about it. My Dad followed a very strictly tailored diet plan from them for an auto immune disorder and the results were phenomenal. Interested to know its impact on renal/urology issues

I have 3 fully functional kidneys too and I get recurrent hydronephrosis on my left side which is the side with the extra kidney. My Hydronephrosis seems to always be caused by the position of my extra kidney causing obstruction to the outlet of my main left kidney so I am wondering if its possible to have it removed?! I must ask my urologist when I see her next. I suffer severe chronic pain across my left renal angle and I believe its down to this extra kidney! I already suffer from an extremely painful urology condition called fowlers syndrome whereby I cannot empty my bladder spontaneously and must use intermittent catheters. I am 24 years old and have spent more of my life in hospital than out so if removing this extra kidney would improve my quality of life I would jump at the chance as I cant take this much longer

Have you had any progress in solving your problem?

Same here - same configuration. All 3 fully functioning and have their own ureters.
No problems.

I’m in my 50’s, I made a decision not to have the extra kidney removed. I have a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, as I’m getting older it is starting to Have an effect, my pulse is not always constant it can go from 67-110 beats per min when resting, which can make me feel a bit dizzy but it soon passes. My kidney function on the whole is good. So I cannot complain too much. It’s a personal decision if yo have removal surgery or not.

Hello and Happy New Years in 2021. Back in1987 I was diagnosed with having kidney stones and was very painful. And during the testing after finding three or four kidney stones that had to be removed through my penis while being put asleep. The test result where that I had two kidneys on the left side, side by side and along with two ureter that are working. And one kidney on the right side with you guessed it and one ureter on the right side also working. I to Void a lot, and do not have any fluid restriction because what ever I drink gets voided out again. There is only one draw back is when traveling in a vehicle for a long distance I need to stop some where and have to void some than more than once.

I was born with 3 also, but at age 7 i was having lots of health problems because of it so the doctor in a brilliant hospital in Canada, where I lived at the time had it taken out and I've never had a problem since. I'm 63 now and healthy. Possibly what's causing your problems, I'd see a specialist.
