I have a sharp pain in my left side when I take a deep breath.

Hello, I noticed about a week ago I had trouble taking deep breaths w/o having a sharp pain on my left side.  It went away for a few days, but is back again.  I find myself short of air and feeling the need to take deep breaths, however it feels like I cannot take the full deep breath that I want.  It is not excruciating pain, but it is definitely uncomfortable and painful.  It is below my left ribcage, but not underneath it (if that makes sense).  Basically where my ribcage ends is where the pain begins.  I do have an awful diet(fast food) and I do smoke.  I am 29 years old and I fear that it is something serious.  Anyone have like symptoms or know what it may be? Or how to treat it?  I obviously will go to the doctors if it doesn't go away or gets worse, but with the holidays and work, I have a hard time to get free time to go to the doctors.  I've been told it could be gas, a slipped lower rib, gull bladder infection, collapsed lung or a sore or pulled oblique muscle.  All but the first and last seem very scary to me, and I doubt it is the sore oblique because I havent done very many strenuous things lately.  Any insight will surely help.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Sounds like pleurisy. I am having the same pains.
I've had the same pains before and it's not as bad as it seems take naps after work drink a lot of water and have controlled breathing. It is possible that you have pulled a deep muscle and I needs to heal
Yeah I have that and I'm 13 and don't smoke. It feels like one of the bones that Is part of my rib cage is poking something when I breathe and it feels heavy when I try to breathe
I have the same problem however I am a teenager and non smoker
He/she is 13... I wouldn't get so excited. :)
That's funny I have the same pain but I had my Gall Bladder remove so it's not that!!!
No because it's like a poison and it would spread so I recommend getting that checked out. Let me know how it goes cause I have the same thing.
I am 14 and have had these problems since I was 9. They come off and on every few days, but only for a few minutes at a time. Usually I have to make them go away by arching my back until it hurts and then breathing in and out, trying to go deeper each time. These are really annoying and get in the way of school and activities, especially since I'm in sports. So far I have found nothing permennantly harmful about them, but I also don't know what is causing the problem in the first place.
Hello there, I'm Angek! I've been through this this morning, woops. I talked about it with my boyfriend and he said that it would go away in a few minutes or hours. I talked to my mom about it and she said that its just stomach ulcer. Ulcer is when you don't eat as much in the right time, and then your stomach acid gets all stingy. Don't worry if it only happens just once, but I suggest going to the doctors or having a check up. I hope this helps. :)
I just got the same thing tonight and I'm 14 too. It hurts to breathe and its where you said.
