I have a sharp pain in my left side when I take a deep breath.

Hello, I noticed about a week ago I had trouble taking deep breaths w/o having a sharp pain on my left side.  It went away for a few days, but is back again.  I find myself short of air and feeling the need to take deep breaths, however it feels like I cannot take the full deep breath that I want.  It is not excruciating pain, but it is definitely uncomfortable and painful.  It is below my left ribcage, but not underneath it (if that makes sense).  Basically where my ribcage ends is where the pain begins.  I do have an awful diet(fast food) and I do smoke.  I am 29 years old and I fear that it is something serious.  Anyone have like symptoms or know what it may be? Or how to treat it?  I obviously will go to the doctors if it doesn't go away or gets worse, but with the holidays and work, I have a hard time to get free time to go to the doctors.  I've been told it could be gas, a slipped lower rib, gull bladder infection, collapsed lung or a sore or pulled oblique muscle.  All but the first and last seem very scary to me, and I doubt it is the sore oblique because I havent done very many strenuous things lately.  Any insight will surely help.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I'm having the same symptoms when I take a deep breath it hurts when I lay down or try to move around in my bed as well will be seeing a doctor this week
I had similar symptoms about seven years ago and it was run through the middle of all of the tests possible. It was finally nearest down that it is something called costochondritis. There's another similar condition called precordial catch syndrome. I would recommend seeking out a really highly rated rheumatologist or an osteopath. They are the best when it comes to dealing with these types of pains!
Same with me, Rebecca. Still a mystery.
Are you asthmatic? Could be pluracy ( stabbing pains) a possible chest infection. Or poor posture
I have been having the same symptoms as u do u know what it could be . I have been such a grouch cause I can't breath n I can barely move . I am a cook so it is very hard felling the way that I do. Any tips ?
Just yesterday evening I started feeling this sharp pain below my chest I can't take fully deep breath cause it hurts and feels really uncomfortable when I lay down or any type of movement don't know what to do it's Saturday and I don't like going to quick cares.
Sounds exactly what I'm having tonight. Had this off and on over the years. Nothing seriouis, I guess. Just awful painful when it happens. Seems like there is no clear answer on what causes it.
Thanks. Definitley what it is!

I don't smoke or eat bad but it's under my pit to the end of my left ribcage stretched out to my shoulder bone. It hurts to breathe, bend down, cough, hiccups, and sneeze. I don't know anymore
