I have a sharp pain in my left side when I take a deep breath.

Hello, I noticed about a week ago I had trouble taking deep breaths w/o having a sharp pain on my left side.  It went away for a few days, but is back again.  I find myself short of air and feeling the need to take deep breaths, however it feels like I cannot take the full deep breath that I want.  It is not excruciating pain, but it is definitely uncomfortable and painful.  It is below my left ribcage, but not underneath it (if that makes sense).  Basically where my ribcage ends is where the pain begins.  I do have an awful diet(fast food) and I do smoke.  I am 29 years old and I fear that it is something serious.  Anyone have like symptoms or know what it may be? Or how to treat it?  I obviously will go to the doctors if it doesn't go away or gets worse, but with the holidays and work, I have a hard time to get free time to go to the doctors.  I've been told it could be gas, a slipped lower rib, gull bladder infection, collapsed lung or a sore or pulled oblique muscle.  All but the first and last seem very scary to me, and I doubt it is the sore oblique because I havent done very many strenuous things lately.  Any insight will surely help.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I'm 15 and same thing here. It just comes every once in a while
you are having growing pains.. I used to get that all the time growing up. Most of the time its gas or a nerve. dont worry it will go away.. just a little annoying..
This is what I do, and it usually works for me. Arch your back as far back as you can and slowly take a deep breath. After that it usually goes away. It's likely a trapped nerve.
Iam 12 and it started hurting when i took deep breath because i dran 3 bottles of coke
It may be a lung stitch
Omg so is mine , it's happening right now. These are literally the same symptoms I'm having I need help , I don't know if I should go to a doctor, Did u ever go see a doctor?
If it's the right side, it could be your gall bladder or appendix. Any pain that doesn't go away should be checked in on with your doctor though.
same and i really need to know
Has anyone looked up Precordial Catch Syndrome?
Have you looked up Precordial Catch Syndrome? I actually figured out this is exactly what happens to me. The only way for it to go away, is to endure the pain, breathe in really really deep and make what feels like a bubble, pop. Then the pain will go away.
Omg I've been having this like forever , I never knew how to explain this like you have , I try telling the doctors and all they did was look and pay attention to my upper chest and they told my relatives everything is fine while I knew everything was not so I just left it alon for three years , but lately I've been getting it like every other day! Is it because I work at a fast food and eating the bad food ??? I can't tell ! I'm so happy to find someone that going g through the same thing as me cuz I thought I was alone with this problem.
I've had those systems before on my left side, n it's painful.. it lasts a few seconds n then will go away, it's not consistent but I do feel for a few seconds from time to time... I have asked a few Dr.s and tests done.. they tell me is just my anxiety.
you must go to hospital for collapsed lung they put a tube through your ribs and inflate lung
