I am currently undergoing treatment for this also, However, I am still not overly convinced that I have FD. Anyway my Dermatologist in London is using N-lite laser treatment as a means of limiting the progression.
This may be something new that most of you haven't tried yet. No guarentees though.
I have had this for years and so has my father. I'm wondering if a diet too high in sugar can cause this. I've just read somewhere that virgin coconut oil may be useful if melted and put on the scalp, guess it may work as an antifungal treeatment.
I think this is what i have. It started when i was about 19, just a few bumps on the back of my head, below the crown area but above the nape.
after a while it spread badly and was painful, leaking fluid, scabby, and patchy hair loss that never grew back. (probably because i put a chemical texturizer in my hair while the bumps were active) etc. after trying things at home i went to my regular doctor who gave me a topical antibiotic i believe. called "Cleocin - T" that stuff knocked those bumps right out! I am now 34 and after YEARS of being mostly bump free they are back again. over the years i'd have a bump here or there and i'd knock it out with the cleocin. but now that medicine has long expired although i still have the tube and am tempted to use it lol.
It's been about a year now since it returned and i've been putting home remedies on it like apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil etc on them and it's slowed their progression but hasn't gotten rid of them. i'm going to have to go back to the doc and get some more of that topical treatment. I heard that acne medicine may help it so i might try that before i go to the doc. but yes Cleocin - T got rid of it for me the first time.
I have dealt with moderate folliculitis for the past 20 years of my life. I tried numerous antibiotics for years--minocycline, rifampin, penicillin, keflex, clindamycin--all with the same result--a few clear weeks but it always came back with a vengeance. Over the past few years I search everywhere I could on the net for a cure, and I tried it--apple cider vinegar, urine, borax, african black soap, tea tree oil, witch hazel, etc, etc,--all with the same result. It looked like things were getting better but within a few weeks, I was back to pustules and sores, so painful sometimes I could barely sleepy. I know you know what I am talking about. It felt like my scalp was angry at me.
I realized the following: my problem was NOT cleanliness. I was cleaning my scalp more than anyone I know. And the more I cleaned the worse it seems to get. So that started me thinking--what if the issue is with the shampoos I am using. I immediately stopped using anything that contained harsh detergents, and that is any shampoo that contains sulfates, no matter how mild they say it is. Sulfates strip your scalp and hair and complete remove beneficial barrier oils from your scalp. In an effort to cleanse, I was certain I was over cleaning. I noticed some improvement immediately.
Next, I was reading about medicated shampoos and everything I kept reading for veterinary use. I ready about the shampoos out there for cats and dogs that suffered skin issues. I settled on Oxiderm+PS. I found one the contained three ingredients that made sense to me and I could understand why they might work--they are all acne treatments--sulfur, benzoyl peroxide, and salicyclic acid. I had nothing to lose, and it contained NO SULFATES either. So I bought it. It also contains phytosphingosine, which is anti-inflammatory and helps with skin defenses. I IMMEDIATELY could tell a difference. My scalp felt clean and better and calm. My scalp has been fine for several months now, with an occasional bump, but compared to the having hundreds of pustules, I consider myself finally relieved. Importantly, I am not taking antibiotics!!!
I use the shampoo every other day. You might experience some hair lightening from the benzoyl peroxide, but that has been minor for me. Also, make certain you use white towels, too, because it can bleach towels or bathroom rugs if you have not completely rinsed it out. All small issues compared to being free from the embarassment and pain of follicultis for the first time in years. Oxiderm+PS!!!!! I hope it can work for you. Good luck. If you try it, post a response. I am curious to know it works for anyone else. I actually called the manufacturer and told them of my success only to find I am not the only human using their products--they hear about it from other folks just like me.
I've been trying oxiderm-ps for a couple weeks now after seeing your post Jopalo. I've seen some improvement, but nothing total yet. I'm also on accutane and septra DS. Thanks for the suggestion though. I have folliculitis decalvans if that helps.

Good luck with everything, here's hoping for a cure.
What was the result
I am going to give this oXIDERM+ps a shot. I have tried everything short of shaving my head. Fresh Aloe Vera plant is the only thing that sooths the pain overnight. I also realize when I am active or playing sports with a Hat on I have servere break outs.
Is there is a special process you use for the shampoo. How long do you leave it in? Do you you use any other shampoos to rinse other than the Oxiderm? Thank you in advance. I sure hope this helps
I'm the guy who tried oxiderm ps. I left it in for a few minutes and used it daily, didn't see much improvement so now I'm back to head and shoulders hair endurance to thicken up my thinning hair. I'm on rifampin, clindamycin, accutane, and septra right now and it's still mildly active. Tried dapsone without success. Next step is Nd:YAG laser treatment or tacrolimus ointment. This condition blows, hoping for a cure. Search scarringalopecia on reddit to find my subreddit I made for our diseases, I comment and post new research pretty often there.
Japalo, My hair is starting to bald because I cant get this thing under control. I just ordered a bottle of oxiderm+ps. wish me luck. I honestly pray this works.
Guys, if I were you I'd be careful about ingesting these powerful antibiotics, even on an on and off basis. Please please look at your diets- I'm of the opinion that a vast majority of individuals suffering from FD actually are the victims of candida overgrowth. I'm no doctor, but I can tell you that a dedicated and aggressive healthy diet plan can work wonders. Talk to your doctor about this.
Hello all
i have been diagnosed with FD over10 years ago, but I have n had the condition for 19 years after having the chicken pox. I believe this to be the trigger for me. I use fucibet, antibiotics, a scalp cleanser and iodine shampoo tto help control it. I still have outbreaks, which I am going through at the moment. It is a hard thing to live with, but I can say that my good days out ways the bad, because of the hair loss caused by the scarring.
Hi, I must have folliculitis if i interpreted the symptoms correctly. I have it for some years now but never really tried to cure it. It is on the beard area of my face. If i dont shave for some time then its gets worse. Itchy, smelly, and can see tiny flakes falling while i m scratching. I can also see on the bumps something like light yellow maybe dry puss. I never see normal puss though. While i shave its painful and sometimes the red bumps will bleed because i shave with a razor blade. However, after 1-2 days the bumps are gone i have no itch but the skin is still darker and starts to dry out and fall like flakes. I want to know what form of folliculitis this is and how to end it after all these years!
I've been suffering with folliculitis decalvans since 2011. I've been on multiple antibiotics and although they make it go away it always comes back within two weeks. Oxiderm ps really helped me alot. I was using it daily for about three months and I thought it might not come back and I began to use it sparingly and not everyday. All of a sudden it came back and now it doesn't respond well to oxiderm ps any more. I'm a registered nurse and have access to medical journals in derm and have spoken with many dermatoligists and as of now there is no cure. It's very frustrating but all you can do is manage it the best you can. I'd recommend the oxiderm ps use it daily and when you can let it sit in for 10 minutes.
Could you please tell me more about it? What kind of disorder you had? Please, let me know, thank you very much.
