Thanks for the concern as tongue / throat swelling is a sign of anaphylaxis. However, the oral irritations people are speaking of here are not allergenic. Rather they are - not uncommon- side effects. The post regarding vitamin b imbalance sounds like a plausible reason
Yea kind of annoying. Based on limited research I have concluded that mild dehydration is the most likely cause. Other possibilities include yeast infection , but I dont see how amphetamine would kill benign oral bacteria . A third possibility is a disruption of vitamin balance like decreased b 6 which could be linked to dehydration.
I have had some extremely painful sores/blisters on my tongue and in my mouth when taking adderall. The problem didn't start until after about six months into using adderall- even though I was using the same strength. I did a ton of research online, but could not find a clear answer. I started taking multivitamins, but I after a month no improvement.
When I researched again about 2 weeks ago I noticed that the people who did not have this problem mentioned that they drink plenty of water. I started drinking 10 bottles of water a day (from about 4). After 2 days all the blisters/sore went away. It has not come back. The dehydration is what triggered the blisters and bacteria (white film on tongue). I have also continued taking vitamins, including flax seed. Anyways, solution for me has been at least 10 bottles of water a day. If you are using adderall and have this problem I suggest drinking 8-10 bottles of water a day for 3 days to see if it helps.
Didn't read through every single post, so not sure if someone else has already pointed this out, but I'm wondering:
Since something like 80% of, well, everyone has herpes simplex 1 AKA cold sores or some variation of them by the time they reach 18 and another % of people (albeit very small) will aquire HSV II orally at some point in their lives, I'm wondering if taking the Adderall and the dry mouth and oral motor irritation the clenching and other movements it causes along with disturbing the possible ph balance and diet of those using it could cause some of these white bumps, sores and whatnot to erupt from a previously unnoticed HSV infection. Sorry, that was a run-on sentence. But you get the idea. It wouldnt explain the overall swelling or burning tongue syndrome, but it might explain the sores and bumps that respond well to oragelj and topical spot treatments. Just a thought.
Adderall is definitely the reason for your mouth sores. It isn't any kind of herpes, viral or in recent posts? (HSV)?? I have been taking Adderall for over 5 years and never had the problem until about a year or so ago when the "Manufacturer" made some changes. At that time, if anyone recalls.... Adderall was actually very hard to find for a few months because of this supposed "Manufacturer change" and that is when it all started for me. How do I know it is the Adderall? Because, I tend to sometimes take an extra dose on some days and end up running out of my prescription a week or so too soon. During this time, I have 0 zero mouth sores yet as soon as I get my refill and start taking it again, it is usually within a matter of days and my mouth starts breaking out again. Sometimes the pain is so excruciating I don't know what to do. I have tried most all over the counter relievers and Kanka seems to work the best for me but it is only a temporary relief and they begin to hurt again. The previous post that mentions water?? This may very well be the solution to my problems? Although I drink more water when taking Adderall it probably still isn't enough. I am definitely going to try this out! In all of my searches about this problem, the water and vitamin b deficiency seem to be the most logical remedies. I have to mention though, that occasionally, for some unknown odd reason I wont have any mouth sores at all for the month?? Yet the very next month they come back again??? I think it is time for the Manufacturer of Adderall to take responsibility for this side effect and look into why this is happening to people and try to fix this issue!! UGHHH, this will probably never happen though!! Hope this helps some of ya'll out!
I was prescribed Strattera and 11 hours after taking it, the insides of my mouth and tongue had swollen. I stopped taking it and 2 days later, plus a Benadryl shot my mouth seems to be back to normal , aside from a few sore spots on the sides. Not sure what else I can take, but it has me scared to try anything new!
Just started taking Vyvanse about two weeks ago for fatigue and amazingly it also stopped my joint pain from arthritis. The bad news is my tongue is so inflamed and I have enlarged tasetbuds as well. I will try the B6 supplements and see if that helps. I really hope it does or I think my doc may have to change my medication. I hope not because it has been three years since I have been pain free...this has been a wonderful pill for me. I only take 30mgs/day. I have been chewing the insides of mouth as well and I'm guessing this is leading to the dry inflamed tongue. Thanks for the help!
I developed sores on the back/sides of my tongue approximately a week after my doctor increased my dose to 40mg (ir) a day. I definitely do the "suction" thing, which forces my tongue to rub against my back teeth. Hurts like crazy.
While I haven't been able to make it go completely away, I have found swishing with Listerine at night and salt water in the morning helps the sores heal. I try not to take too much Tylenol, but some days if the pain is really bad I take it. I also make sure to drink tons of water and try to chew gum because dry mouth seems to make it worse.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this, but I am disappointed there's not a "cure"!
The same thing just happened to me. It only happens sometimes, and I only take it once in a blue moon. But, yeah the roof of my mouth started burning just as I was about to eat some delicious burger king! So, I just stopped eating for about 10 minutes and during that 10 minutes I poured myself some hot water. Then I just held the warm/hot water in my mouth. It seemed to work because I was able to actually eat after that. I'm no doctor and don't know why this worked. I just used my common sense in that warm water is better at killing germs. That Orgajel may work as well, not sure. Good luck.
HaHaHa - Amennnnn!
I was thinking the exact same thing to the T!!! You can totally separate the "diddled-up and-won't-shut-the-F-up" answers from the normal people who can make the same exact point with 1 sentence - Everyone else's tongue and mouth freaking kill too from taking too much, so it's not uncommon, - and just thank god we all googled the same damn thing - lol - cuz' you know no one is about to go to their doc and be like "yeah, I'm having a painful ass reaction from taking it, maybe I should be prescribed less or stop taking it" hahaha
Get a diary people! Lol!
And don't even say you ain't taking too much after writing the biggest essay of all time!
