My experience is exactly the same as that of others who have written here. Perfectly working sexual apparatus, with plenty of semen volume before my bilateral inguinal hernia repair with mesh 2 years ago ... now weak erections and no semen at all. Numbness all over the repaired area but continuous deep-seated ache, extending down to top of my thighs. Surgeon has offered steroid injection 'if the pain gets really bad' but no suggestions about how to cure the other problems. Since the operation I've done a lot of internet research, and discovered that hernia operations with mesh have one of the lowest 'total success' rates of any operation: recurrence of the hernia is relatively rare, but permanent side-effects are very common indeed. None of this was pointed out to me before the operation. Indeed, while the hernia on one side certainly had to be repaired, I didn't even know that I had a hernia on the other side - and that's the one that is now totally numb and painful. At the hospital one of the surgeons described hernias as 'mostly lifestyle conditions' - he told that it as mainly affected men in manual jobs and/or men who (like me) did weight-training, and I had the distinct impression that he thought I could have avoided it. Overall, I think men get a pretty rough deal when it comes to treatment of their reproductive anatomy. The medical profession doesn't respect a man's need to be able to get a strong erection and ejaculate properly.

I have the same issues and these complications were not discussed by the surgeon. I also had other major complications after the surgery to include internal bleeding (which led to emergency surgery) and a DVT. I wish I never met that surgeon.
