I get them really bad too, on my chest, arms and stomach. I get them whether or not I go tanning or out in the sun. I think it is a sweat rash. I only get them once and its in the very beginning. After the initial first time I don't get them any more, but Yes I have to put the tanning thing on hold til they are gone

I have these same bumps. I've been tanning for two weeks, and got them for the first time a few days ago. I asked the guy at my tanning bed, since he is knowledgable about this subject. I thought it was a heat rash, since that made the most sense.
He called it Overexposure.
I'm very fair skinned, but I went up to the maximum time too fast. After they went away I laid for 6 minutes, and they came back.
If you have this problem, buy a good lotion, such as Hempz or Angel's lotion, WITHOUT mineral oil in it, and rub it on twice a day. Start back at the minimum time for laying, and only go once the rash has gone away.

Hey guys, I've actually worked at a tanning salon for several years and I've also made a documentary on the dangers of tanning. The red bumps you are experiencing is your body telling you that the bed (or lotion) you use is too hot for your skin type. What you're experiencing are hives. You should figure out your skin type (google this, you will see different skin type levels) and pay close attention to the type of bed you are getting in. More often than not, the people behind the counter of a tanning salon will not give you accurate information about tanning safety. For instance, if you have skin type one, you should never tan in a tanning bed -- but I've seen numerous people do this because they so desire to be dark. In this case, you should mystic tan or use Neutrogena's build-a-tan, to prevent your skin from being severely damaged.

I get the red itchy bumps also on my chest ,stomache and legs they go away after a few hours but they are annoying, itchy and irritating.
I take birth control which makes girls heat sensitive so I think its a heat rash.
so if your taking birth control an you go tanning and you get those bumps thats probably why.

:-D i have been going to the tanning bed lately, and people wiht mor sensitive skin can get these bumps for going to often and for to long. Start off going for not much time at all and slowly introduce the fake tanning to your skin. it might take a while. if i go for a minute to long ill get thse bumps and there extreamly enoying! dont think that you can just go and get a tan easily, take your time and youll ruin your chace of getting melinoma and perminent skin dryness!!!!... if you abuse these tanning beds your skin is going to dry and itchy , and possibly kill you! hahaha take care all!

It might also be that your allergic to the cleaner they use, i was told that if you wet the bed with a spray bottle and then wipe it off to get the cleaner off it still will be sanitized and stuff it just will take the cleaner off so it dosent irritate the skin.

Hello... I am actually going through the same thing! I get teeny tiny bumps some are a little red (i think from the itching or overheat) and some are just clear. They itch so bad and I put so much Aloe Vera. I'm not on birth control so i doubt that has anything to do with it. but the particular tanning salon I go to is right beside my gym so as soon as i tan I go for a 45 minute jog. I go in the stand up tanner and my tanning salon is very clean; i don't think they are unsanitary in fact I always see them cleaning the place. But my skin is never in contact with the equipment. The thing is, I only go about 6-7minutes at a time. i get them on my boobs and my abs and theyre so itchy! anyway... i hope this post helps some how. From reading other posts it seems they are definitely because of sweat glands. some one once told me that you have to keep your skin constantly hydrated since dryness makes ur skin more susceptible to damage.

I get these bumps on my stomach and my legs and they itch like crazy!! My stomach is the worst. I have came to the conclusion that it is only because I get so hot. If I put the fan on high and have it on me the whole time then I don't brake out.
